African traditional medicine is a medicine alternative that uses indigenous herbal medicine and African spirituality generally involving fortune tellers, midwives and herbalists. These professionals claim that they are capable to treat various diseases, before the creation of scientific medicine, traditional medicine it was a dominant medical system for millions of people in Africa. Herbal medicines in Africa are generally not researched enough and are poorly regulated, documentation is lacking view of traditional knowledge that it is usually transmitted orally.
In the past, science considered knowledge traditional and its primitive methods as late. Under colonial rule traditional healers Africans were banned because many countries considered that healers were practitioners witchcraft and magic, and so they considered as illegal practices. After Mozambique’s independence in 1975, these attempts to control traditional medicine, the colonizers even sent the healers for reeduction, since the beginning of the century XXI, treatments and remedies used in traditional medicine were the most successful evaluated by scientific researchers.
Developing countries have started to realize the high cost of modern systems health care, and technologies to develop scientific medicine, thereby demonstrating that traditional African medicine was effective and could remedy this high cost of production of medicines. An African healer adopted the concept and built a 48-bed hospital in Kwa Langa, which is in South Africa which is the first of its kind, thus combining methods such as homeopathy, iridology and other healing methods. Diagnostics and treatment methods chosen in traditional African medicine are based especially on spiritual aspects, in which in African culture he said that no one becomes ill without any reason, in the case instead of looking for medical or physical reasons of a disease, African healers try to determine the root cause of the disease that results from an imbalance between the patient and your social environment, or spirit world and not natural causes.
Depending on the type of individual's imbalance an appropriate curing plant is used, depending on its symbolic meaning and spiritual, as well as its medicinal effect. I think every African has gone through this traditional medicine. I thank God I'm alive, thanks too traditional medicine, to which I was subjected when I was a child and I went through a disease, and thank God I was healed, today I still have scars on my belly, so on the side of the belly, to which I was subjected to that medicine.
