hey YouTube my name is David and today I'm giving you guys another episode of One Piece 5 minutes where we talk about the fundamental concepts of one piece in hopefully less than 5 minutes to help you play better play more comfortably have more fun and win more games when playing one piece today I want to talk to you guys about countering and the whole concept of countering when to and when not to counter I think this concept has to do with a lot of different factors in the game whether it's what opponent you're against what's
been played what you know what information there is in the game based on what your opponent has and hasn't played with take everything here lightly because every Situation's different if you guys have any opinions on when and when not to counter please drop them in the comments below for the other viewers every opinion matters and I would love to hear what you guys think so right now in this board State my opponent has a blocker up they're swinging seven at one of my characters let's say J Bay because it makes more sense The Swinging seven
at Jin Bay which requires me to give him a 2K and a 1K they have one life I'm also at two life here and I have a blocker so what I want to do here is make sure that what I do allows me to still get past this blocker and swing them two connecting hits to get to the game um this one I'll probably block and give them a 2K counter just to ensure that my body stays alive then what he's probably going to do is Swing nine at My Gin Bay so we swing nine
at gin Bay which requires me to give him 2K 2K 1K if I was in this situation and I did have the counter I would definitely 100% give them the counter because I know that next turn depending on their hand size of course I may be able to swing lethal so let's say I did have it I give them 2K 2K 1K and then we pass turn because he wants to keep his blocker up now if I wanted to I can go ahead I can swing seven 7 7 7 and then also a seven with
lader 77777 gets two cards out of their hand every swing as well as gets through the blocker gets their life and then wins the game again depending on their hand size now let's say the roles are reversed and I'm at one life while my opponent is swinging at me now while this concept may not be exactly what you think because the opponent will probably just keep swinging at my life again but let's just pretend like for some reason I have a fat hand like this this many cards in hand and they know that they probably
won't be able to get through to my life if they just keep swinging at it so they're going to go for my board to get my hand size down which I will 100% gladly give them so what I do in this situation is let's say they're swinging seven at in Bay I will 100% counter because I have enough cards in hand to do so and mainly because I want to mitigate them swinging at my life because if they do end up getting me to zero they can play a goal Roger or things that just guarantee
their win and even just put me in a bad position because I am at zero Lev life I don't want them to have an easy time I want them to have to go through and use up all the swings on my single gin Bay so maybe he Dawn up onto Chopper and swings you know seven at here and reduces him I can use my blocker and give him a 2K on top let's pretend that was a 2K and then they swing dragon and I can either give them one of these bodies because the odds are
he's going to swing nine at jinbe which requires me to give him three cards odds are I'm just going to give it to him and then now my life is still intact and I have two bodies for my next turn that I can swing out there are a lot of times where I will counter because I want to stay a little bit healthy or just not go to zero and just like in that example another time where you can counter is if you just have a really really big hand size like let's say you had
nine cards in hand it's really good to play around things like pudding four cost law that makes you trash cards eight cost esow if anybody still running it it's always good to just know like hey I can counter out of this cuz I have so many cars in hand it's okay if I drop a few and I think it's pretty good to stay within the range of four to seven cards at a time because it get keeps you in a position where your opponent is questioning whether or not you have the counter and they're going
to 100% assume you have the counter even if it's all bricks hand size is very important having a lot of cards and maintaining a good healthy hand size but not having too many cards is also very important so let's go over the times where I feel like you shouldn't counter starting with the exact opposite of what we just talked about hand size so let's say instead of having a really big hand you had no hand at all let's say you have three cards in hand it's okay to take a card or two if they're swinging
at life because it increases your chances and would you look at that I just pull a 2K so really good for countering because now if they swing a seven I can just give them a 2K 1K I go down to two but that's okay because I was able to protect something and get some card out so another thing is not countering with cards that you definitely need the ability for like this card right here I don't know if I would counter out with jinbe unless you were super super desperate and it was the end of
the game because jinbe is so so strong especially with what I have in hand here if I did a gin Bay Weevil combo I kind of gained my Tempo back and you know pressure is on the board so depending on the cards you have in hand you may want to counter with different card over another or just not counter at all because you have different cards in hand that can kind of like put you in a better place next turn sometimes your opponent will be swinging swinging swinging swinging at your life super super hard and
it will be like oh I really really need to protect these bodies but you know how many swings they have and you just kind of have to take it all because you have to make sure that you can save the counter for life so again if you can't mitigate their swings out of your life like we talked about by countering you kind of have to take it so that you can protect your life so it's one of the two depending on where they decide to swing but it's really really hard to tell if you can't
mitigate them swinging out your life then you just have to kind of save your counter to protect yourself like if you know that hey this body is going to 100% die like if they swing a 12K at My Gin bait I'm not going to give them 8K in counter because I'm just going to save it for my life alongside that let's take a look at this situation let's say they they got their swings off they have of a dragon on board I'm at five life I'm chilling I'm absolutely chilling like there's no no reason why
I need to counter if they decide hey let's swing at your life I don't know why they would decide to swing at my life in this situation when the board is is low here uh but hey it's an extra card I'm low in hand size I have four cards in hand I'm willing to take that extra card because why would I counter when I get a free card I'm still at 4 life I feel like I'm really ahead in the game at this point so I'm down to get an extra card in hand thank you
for that in this situation again just healthy life can't lose don't really need to counter I would only counter if I really wanted to but at this point it's more worth it for me to gain an extra card because my hand size is getting kind of low I was at four so staying in a good healthy range of four to S putting me at five right in the middle there five or six card is like shs Kiss hand and it just keeps me in that range where I feel really really comfortable in the game anyways
