The movie opens in the Dancing Village in 1955, where we see dancers performing. The village elder offers these dancers for selection to the ruler of the region and the forest to save the village from impending doom. One by one, the dancers start to fall, covered with white cloths, and are taken away.
In the end, only a dancer survives, and the elder approaches her. In the next scene, the elder approaches Inggri in the middle of the forest with a box and asks her to take the object out of the village. Inggri, accompanied by a shaman, runs away, but after a while, the shaman senses something is wrong.
He stops and tells Inggri to run and never look back. As Inggri runs, an unseen force moves toward the shaman, and the scene shifts to Inggri, who falls while running and gets injured after hitting a stone. When she gets up, she sees a bangle in the box.
She puts it back in, but then hears Badarawuhi's voice saying, "Don't take that. " Badarawuhi warns her not to get involved and asks her to return the bangle. However, Inggri gets up and flees, making Badarawuhi furious.
Badarawuhi angrily tells her not to take it as Inggri runs towards a bridge to leave the village. Twenty-five years later, in 1980, we see Mila visiting East Java with her cousin Yuda and his friend Arya. There, they meet Arya's friend Jito.
While Yuda and Jito talk to Arya, Mila wanders into a marketplace but finds it strange that there are no customers. As she moves ahead, she hears some unsettling sounds and becomes a little scared. When she goes further inside, she discovers a meat market where a woman is chopping meat.
As Mila moves forward in fear, the woman warns her not to go there. Before Mila can understand what’s happening, Yuda and Arya arrive, and she leaves without saying anything. Yuda notices that the market is empty, and they leave, and as they do, a light turns on.
Later, Mila shows some drawings to Jito and asks if he knows the place depicted. Jito says that every village in the area has a gate like the one in the drawings, and he doesn’t recognize it specifically. Yuda explains that they need to go there to do something for Mila's mother, who is currently sick.
Jito finds a drawing of a dancer and mentions that there is a village known for its dancers, often called the Dancing Village. Mila asks if he can take them there, and although Jito initially says it’s far, he agrees after Yuda offers him some money. Jito brings them to the Dancing Village, and when they enter, they notice an offering at the start of the bridge.
In the Village, they meet a woman named Sundari, and Jito asks her if they can meet the elder, to which Sundari tells them that the elder Putri, used to live there but recently passed away. Mila asks whom she should speak to if she has questions, to which Sundari suggests Buyut, but mentions that he is currently away. They discuss what to do next, and Mila suggests waiting for Buyut.
Yuda asks Sundari if they can stay in the village until Buyut returns, to which Sundari says they can stay at the guard post, and they agree to it. Once at the guard post, Yuda tells Mila that he doesn’t think she can sleep there. He approaches a woman named Ratih, introduces himself, and explains that they are the ones staying at the guard post.
He asks her if it would be okay for his sister Mila to stay in her house. He also tries to offer her some money, but Ratih refuses, saying he doesn’t need to and that she will gladly let Mila stay in her house. Ratih brings Mila to her house and requests her to be quiet during her stay, as her mother Jiyanti is ill.
Ratih then enters her room, and Mila notices a photograph on display. Ratih returns with a clean cloth for Mila and invites her to rest in her room if she wishes. Later that night, a few people enter the village, causing the lamps to go out.
The lamp at the guard post also goes dark, and when Yuda notices this, he tries to fix it. As he does, a figure approaches him, but as soon as the lamp is lit again, the figure vanishes. Meanwhile, Mila wakes up to drink water, and as she does, the door to Ratih's room creaks open, and she hears a female voice singing a song.
Perplexed, Mila moves towards the room and sees Jiyanti, visibly scared. Suddenly, a gong rings, the lamp goes out, and the door opens further. To Mila's shock, she sees Badarawuhi standing there, saying she has been waiting for her for so long.
The door then slams shut in her face, and the lamp lights up again on its own. The next morning, Mila asks Ratih about her mother’s illness, but before Ratih can respond, her mother starts coughing, prompting Ratih to rush into her room. As Mila observes, she sees Ratih’s mother in a distressed state, looking fearfully at a corner of the room.
However, Mila doesn’t see anyone else there. Later, Mila tells Ratih that her mother Inggri is experiencing the same condition as Ratih’s mother. In a flashback, we see a shaman being brought to Mila’s house by her aunt because the doctors cannot explain Inggri's condition.
The shaman hands Mila some drawings and explains that her mother brought an item that she shouldn’t have. When Mila asks which item, the shaman points to a wardrobe. Mila opens the wardrobe and finds a box inside, and within the box is a bangle.
The shaman explains that this item came from a faraway village at the easternmost tip of the island of Java and advises her to return it to help her mother recover. Ratih tells Mila that her mother has been in that condition for over a week. Mila shows her the drawings and the bangle, explaining that her purpose is to return it to its owner so that her mother can get better.
Ratih examines the drawing carefully and identifies the location as Tapak Tilas, but mentions that no one is allowed to go there. When Mila asks why, Ratih says she will let Buyut explain the reason to her. Later, Mila tells Yuda that Ratih mentioned she might have seen the gate, but they are not allowed to go there, and she suggests they wait for Buyut.
She also tries to tell him about what happened last night, but Arya interrupts, asking Yuda if he wants to take a bath. Ratih takes Mila to the women's bathing area and shows her the twin pool, explaining that she has heard there is another one like it, but she doesn’t know where it is. She mentions that the pool was supposedly used by dancers before their performances, although she adds that it’s only a rumor.
Before getting into the pool, they go into the bathrooms to rinse themselves, and as Mila begins to rinse, she hears a female voice singing from the adjacent bathroom, where Ratih is. At the same time, a snake slithers behind Mila, but when she turns around, she doesn’t see anything there. When Mila comes out, Ratih invites her into the pool, saying the water is refreshing.
As Mila hesitantly enters the pool, Ratih begins to sing again and moves towards her. Mila asks about the song's meaning, and Ratih explains that it tells the story of people who often break their promises. Ratih then goes behind Mila, transforms into Badarawuhi, and asks Mila if she is not that kind of person.
Badarawuhi then asks her to return her bangle before disappearing behind Mila. Scared Mila looks around and gets terrified seeing a snake in front of her, and suddenly she gets pulled into the water. As she struggles to get out, she sees Badarawuhi standing outside the pool.
Just then, Ratih pulls her out and asks what happened, and Mila tells her about the snake, but Ratih doesn't see anything there. Meanwhile, Yuda suggests they visit Buyut's house, assuming he has returned, so they don't need to stay another night. However, they soon realize they have wandered into a graveyard, and recognizing they have taken a wrong turn, they decide to leave quickly.
They then reach Buyut's house, where they encounter a boy named Prabu, who informs them that Buyut has not returned yet. Disappointed, the three of them start to leave, but Prabu follows them and shares a local legend that it is said that Buyut can turn into a black dog. Skeptical, they don’t believe him, and they leave dismissing Prabu’s story as a mere tale.
Later, Mila tells Yuda that she saw snakes while taking a bath, but they suddenly disappeared. Jito mentions the boy they met, who told them a crazy story, and says Arya believed it. Arya explains that they saw graves covered by black cloth, heard about a human that can turn into a dog, and noted that the village is in the middle of the forest.
He asks if they don’t think there is something wrong with this village. Yuda asks Mila if they should just go home. Ratih arrives and asks Mila if she isn't going to return the item, and suggests they wait for Buyut to come back first.
Later that night, Mila hears some noise in the house. When she comes out, she finds Ratih gathering her things and she apologizes to her saying she dropped them accidentally. Mila helps pick up the belongings and begins to put them back, but suddenly, she gets scared hearing musical instruments playing outside.
She asks Ratih if she can hear it, to which Ratih replies yes and explains that there might be a dance performance going on in the neighboring village. Ratih takes Mila to the place where the dance performance is taking place, and the scene abruptly cuts. The next morning, when Yuda and others visit Ratih's house, they find that there is no one there, and when Yuda checks the box, he finds that the bangle is missing.
They then hear Raith's mom crying in pain in her room, and when Jito opens the door to check, they are shocked to see Ratih's mother's condition. When Ratih and Mila do not return after some time, Yuda, Arya, and Jito set out to look for them. Meanwhile, we see Ratih and Mila at the place where many people are dancing strangely, and as they move forward, they see Badarawuhi dancing.
After a while, the music and dance stop, and Badarawuhi approaches them. Ratih introduces her to Mila, which shocks Mila, and Badarawuhi asks her where is her bangle. Scared, Mila asks Badarawuhi if returning the bangle will cure her mother.
Badarawuhi does not respond, and Mila hands the bangle to her, and she does, Badarawuhi puts it on. She then remarks that the shaman was kind for leading Mila here, revealing that Badarawuhi was present at that time and that the shaman was under her control. Badarawuhi tells Raith that she has done her job, and when Raith asks about her mother, Badarawuhi instructs her to go home and meet her mother.
Meanwhile, Yuda and his friends spot a food stall, and Yuda asks the owner if he has seen his cousin, but the man says no. Arya notices that something is wrong there and tells Jito they should go back. As they start to leave, one of them comments that they don’t look like they’re from around here.
He approaches Yuda, hoping he finds his cousin, and gives him a packet. However, Arya intervenes, grabbing the packet and saying he is very hungry. On the other hand, we see Ratih running into the woods with Mila following her.
Once they reach the village, Mila asks who she was? Ratih explains that her name is Badarawuhi and that she promised Ratih her mother would be safe if she helped her. In a flashback, we see that during their bath, Ratih encountered her mother asking for help.
Jiyanti suddenly lunges at her but then disappears, and Badarawuhi appears. Badarawuhi tells Ratih that although her mother is suffering now, she can be saved if Ratih helps her. The flashback concludes with Ratih taking Mila out of the water while Badarawuhi is still present.
They both rush to Ratih's home but are shocked to find that her mother’s condition has worsened. Mila decides to flee the village, but Yuda and his friends find her. She insists that she wants to go home and see her mother, but Yuda tells her it’s too dangerous and they bring her back to Ratih's house with them.
Once they’re back, Mila tells Yuda that they don’t have time and she needs to make sure that what she did was right. Yuda asks what she did to which Mila opens the box and shows him that she returned the item, but then questions why it still feels wrong. Jito asks if she was gone all day just to return the item.
Shocked, Mila replies that she was only gone for a little while, but Arya then tells her that they had been searching for her all day. At that moment, Jito notices a strange smell and realizes it’s coming from the packet they got from the stall. He opens it and finds a dead monkey inside, which shocks everyone.
Arya asks Jito why he accepted the food from the strange people, and only then Ratih comes out upon hearing the commotion and is equally shocked to see the dead monkey. Later, they all go to sleep, but Mila lies awake, staring at her mother’s photo. She suddenly realizes she is at home, and her mother, now completely healed, comes to her.
Inggri asks if she had a nightmare and says she has prepared her favorite food, but Mila says she will eat later and asks her to stay while she rests. They both lie down on the bed and when Mila opens her eyes, she finds herself back in Ratih's house, realizing it was just a dream. Then, she hears her mother’s voice, and when she comes out to check, the lamp goes out on its own.
Mila notices her mother’s voice coming from the kitchen, and when she heads in that direction, she sees her mother standing there. As Mila approaches, Inggri looks at her and suddenly says that she should go home and doesn’t need to save her. Inggri warns Mila that she doesn’t know what she is about to face and advises her not to give in to any of Badarawuhi’s persuasion.
Suddenly, they hear the sound of anklet bells, and Inggri tells Mila that Badarawuhi has seen her and that she can’t stay long. Just then, something terrible happens to Inggri. She is lifted into the air and then thrown onto the table.
Horrified, Mila screams, waking up the others, and they find Jiyanti lying in the kitchen. Ratih comes out searching for her mother and is shocked to see her in the kitchen, now possessed by Badarawuhi. Badarawuhi tells them that their mothers are now in Angkara Murka and that the villagers know what must be done.
She demands that Mila perform the ritual to prevent further harm. Badarawuhi then violently throws Jiyanti against a wall, injuring her badly, and when Ratih goes to check on her, Badarawuhi pushes her back. Next, Badarawuhi forces Jiyanti to peel the skin from her hand, and they all watch in horror as Jiyanti then begins to peel the skin from her face.
Ratih tries to stop her, and just then, Buyut arrives, and Ratih desperately pleads with Buyut to help. The next morning, Buyut asks Mila why she brought the bangle here, but Yuda interrupts, asking what is going on. Buyut explains that before she died, Mila’s grandmother had instructed him to find her mother.
He came to Inggri’s house, but it was too late because Badarawuhi had already reached her. Buyut reveals that Inggri is Putri’s only child and that her grandmother died from the heavy burden of the village's tradition. She wanted to protect her mother and the entire village.
Mila asks, “Protect them from what? ” In a flashback, we learn that Jiyanti and her twin Santika were chosen dancers, and since Jiyanti's aura attracted supernatural beings, Santika didn’t want her to be chosen as the dancer. Despite knowing the risk, Buyut and Putri decided to replace Jiyanti with her twin Santika on the night of the ritual to deceive Badarawuhi, so the village could be freed from her slavery.
He explains that on the night of the ritual, the fates of the twins were switched. Jiyanti, who was supposed to be the chosen dancer, was replaced by Santika. They had to do this to deceive Badarawuhi and take the bangle out of the village.
Santika's sacrifice caused great pain, especially to Jiyanti, but because of it, the village was able to be freed from Badarawuhi's clutches. Badarawuhi could not choose a dancer for 25 years, and during all that time, Putri endured the pain as a result of her decision. Mila says it was wrong for her to come here, and Ratih also asks for forgiveness, admitting this is all her fault.
She then asks, "But what about her mother now? " Buyut goes into Jiyanti's room to perform a ritual, telling them that no one should enter while he is inside. They fall asleep while waiting outside, and around 2:30 in the night, Yuda wakes up to the sound of someone knocking on the door.
As he is about to open it, Buyut stops him, saying, "You never know what's behind it. " He then opens the door himself and steps outside, closing it behind him. Outside, he encounters a demon, and then many other demons appear behind it.
The next morning, they find a dead cow outside, and when Buyut investigates further, he discovers dead chickens and realizes that all the livestock in the village has died. After this, he sees that all the crops in the village have also been destroyed. They then rush to the Twin Pool area, where they find that the water has dried up and hundreds of snakes are crawling in it.
Yuda and the others immediately leave in fear, and Buyut encounters Badarawuhi at the scene. Later, Mila insists on making sure the villagers perform the ritual, but Yuda says she doesn’t need to and that they should go home now. Mila replies that the ritual might help her mother and she doesn’t want their journey to be in vain.
She sees Buyut making the girls drink coffee one by one, and when Ratih drinks it, she comments that it tastes sweet. A villager informs Buyut that Ratih is the last one, and Buyut then asks Mila if she wants to taste the coffee. Mila agrees and drinks it, describing it as sweet when asked about the taste.
Skeptical, Yuda picks up the glass, takes a sip, and spits it out, saying that it tastes bitter. Yuda tries to take her away from there, but Buyut tells Mila that she has been chosen as one of the dancers of the village. He explains that she selects only seven candidates to become Dawuhs, and If the coffee tastes sweet, it is a sign that she must perform the ritual.
Later, Arya asks Ratih why they can’t be present for the ritual, to which she explains that other than the elders, no one from the village is allowed to attend. Concerned for Mila's safety, Yuda insists she can’t join something without understanding the consequences, to which Mila asks what she should do, as this is the only way. The next day, Buyut tells the villagers that they will perform a ritual that has not been done for a long time to save the village.
He explains that one dancer will fulfill her duty as the chosen dancer to protect the village in the years to come. He instructs all the villagers to close their doors and windows, keep hitting bamboo to repel uninvited guests born from darkness, and not to leave their houses under any circumstances. He warns them that tonight the supernatural will come out and consume anything in its path.
They are strictly instructed to keep hitting the bamboo continuously until the ritual is finished. As the ritual begins, Buyut instructs them not to stop playing the music until the last dancer falls. The girls are then told to inhale the shawl, and as they do, they become possessed.
The music starts playing, and their bodies begin to dance on their own, and they see that they are surrounded by numerous demons dancing along with them. Buyut tells the ruler of the place that he offers these dancers for her selection to save the village from impending doom. After a while, one of the girls falls, and when Buyut approaches her and asks what she saw, the girl replies that she saw nothing.
One by one, the other girls begin to fall, leaving only Ratih and Mila standing. Meanwhile, Yuda notices that it's almost dark and, concerned for Mila, begins to go look for her. However, Arya stops him, reminding him what Buyut said.
On the other hand, an elder asks Buyut why no one has been chosen yet, to which he replies that this is the first time he has encountered such a situation. After a while, Badarawuhi appears and approaches them, prompting them to kneel before her. She asks Mila if she wants to stay, to which Mila responds by asking about her mother.
Badarawuhi makes them continue the dance and then asks Mila if she is scared, encouraging her to stay and accompany her. However, when Mila refuses, she collapses, leaving Ratih as the last dancer remaining. Buyut asks Mila what she saw, and she replies that she saw Badarawuhi.
Suddenly, Mila becomes possessed and rises, resuming the dance. Buyut instructs the villagers to cover them with white cloths, and as they do, Mila and Ratih vanish from the demon's sight. Buyut says they must try to stop this, but meanwhile, the demons start demanding dancers from Badarawuhi.
The villagers bring Ratih and Mila to Ratih's house, and Buyut tells them to go home and protect their families. Yuda asks what is happening to Mila, but Buyut tells them to get some salt and scatter it around the room. He then removes the cloth from Ratih and Mila and explains that Badarawuhi hasn’t chosen between Mila and Ratih yet, but one thing is certain that both of them are currently in Angkara Murka.
Meanwhile, Mila finds herself in Angkara Murka, surrounded by many men with their faces covered by white clothes. Suddenly, a girl asks her to stay and play together, and Mila is terrified as she sees numerous other girls playing and beckoning her to join them. They then begin approaching her, causing Mila to back away and eventually fall to the ground.
Meanwhile, due to the strong storm, the door opens, and as Jito and Buyut try to close it, Jito is terrified to see demons standing outside the house. However, despite this, they eventually manage to shut the door. On the other hand, Mila encounters Badarawuhi, who summons many other dancers to surround her.
The dancers then begin their performance, and Mila notices that Ratih is among them. Badarawuhi then pulls Mila over and tells her to stay here and accompany Ratih and her mother, asking if she doesn’t want to be like them. Badarawuhi then reveals Mila's mother, and as Mila tries to reach her, the dancers block her path and begin moving toward her like snakes.
Suddenly, Mila finds herself in a different place where she finally meets her mother. Mila says let's leave this place, but Inggri says she can’t. Inggri tells Mila to go home, expressing that she doesn’t want her to be part of this.
She encourages Mila to be strong and not to do what Badarawuhi wants her to do. Inggri then departs, leaving Mila alone, and Mila finds herself back in Angkara Murka. Badarawuhi then makes her dance in front of her mother and asks dont she wants to accompany her mother here?
like Ratih. She then begins to torture Inggri, by breaking her fingers and feet, and asks Mila can she bear to see her mother like this? Meanwhile, Yuda notices that Mila's body is growing cold and asks Buyut what's happening.
Buyut tells them to wait and enters a room. After a while, he transforms into an invisible dog and leaves the house. He reaches Angkara Murka, causing all the dancers to stop.
However, after a while, they resume dancing. Soon after, Badarawuhi loses control over Mila, and Mila rushes to her mother, which causes Mila to wake up in the real world. After a while, when Buyut returns home, they discover that Ratih is dead, and when he rushes to Jayanti's room, Buyut finds her dead as well.
The next day, as they are leaving the village, Buyut tells Mila that she is the only dancer who returned from Angkara Murka. Mila explains that she was able to come back because of her mother, and Yuda then takes her away from the village. When they reach home, they find that Inggri is also dead, and while burying Ratih and Jiyanti, an elder asks Buyut what should they do after this?
to which he says he is not sure, but one thing is sure is for sure that there should not be any more victims.
