so you're scrolling through your Pinterest or your Tik Tok and you suddenly see someone with the most Immaculate stack of bracelets you've ever seen and now you look over at your jewelry and sigh but you keep scrolling and then you come across a picture where someone is wearing the most basic outfit possible but for some reason you love their outfit and can't pinpoint why so you try to replicate the outfit and it just doesn't work out until you realize you're missing details some would call my n you're missing their accessories I used to be just
like that I used to look at certain outfits and be like oh my gosh I just want this outfit so bad and so I would try to replicate it and then it just wouldn't hit of course there's other things like body shape and all that stuff that could affect how the outfit looks but sometimes it was small little details like maybe they had like a really really chunky belt or maybe they just had stacks of accessories and stacks of jewelry and beautiful bags and this and that and it was just like oh that's what is
making their outfit and then when I would see those people I would question where did they find those pieces how did they know it was going to look that good how were they able to Source or find these accessories hi I'm your unproductive bestie and today we'll be delving into that just a little bit just a little bit so this is basically accessories 101 accessories 101 yes when it comes to accessories we need to remember that it's more than just jewelry so it's more than just Rings bracelets earrings and necklaces there's things like scarves ties
socks grills tooth gems belts hair ties like scrunchies hair clips Nails glasses purses roaches it's a lot of things and these things can either take from or add to your outfit but sometimes we just want the end result we don't really know how to get there so my video is kind of like how I go about things in order to accessorize and you may be wondering girl what are your credentials so here are my credentials I have none my only credential is that I am a 23-year-old teenager on a budget who likes to accessorize and
get dressed and style myself that's all I have that is all I have so if you thought or you were looking for someone who like has a career in this I'm not your girl but if you you know want someone who just has fun and does what she can with her budget you're on the right page that being said let's quickly talk about what this video is not about so this video is not about like like materials per se so materials are important but I don't think I have the educational background to give that to
you just make sure you get the most bang for your buck don't pay so much money for something that's going to tarnish next thing is that this video is more so for me to give you like food for thought I'm not giving you direct like oh you should pair this color with this color because it looks good like this no I don't think there is rules to accessorizing well at least well I don't think so maybe there are but I don't really care um so this is me just giving you food for thought how I
go about things and maybe it can help you on your accessory Journey that being said we can go ahead and start and we're going to actually start with jewelry which is the like main space taker for accessories and at the end you're going to see why I started with jewelry so this is going to go in like little chapters but we're going to overall focus on how I collect jewelry we're going to start with my inspiration then what I focus on on then on cultural input then experimentation and then timeline starting with inspiration so I
get my inspiration from Pinterest influencers Brands occasions and my personal style with Pinterest I'm going to touch more on that in my uh later chapters but I do get a lot of inspiration from Pinterest and then with influencers I know some of the girls don't like influencers some of the girls don't like content creators but you could really really find some really really good good like influencers out there who will introduce you to different brands when it comes to jewelry or they'll show you how to style something in a way that you did not think
of doing one of the influencers that I follow is Colleen Diaz I hope it's Colleen and not colen okay hopefully I'm right with one of them but Colleen Diaz I love the way she accessorizes I feel like she's right in that middle of maximalist and minimalist like she'll stack on necklaces and then add on rings but it just looks like it goes with the outfit there are other influencers that I follow that I cannot for the life of me remember their names but there are some that are very very very maximalist and others who have
touches here and there where they might just have a scrunchie and then their socks might be peeking and you see a color from their socks that adds to the outfit so there's stuff like that that kind of inspires me and then next are Brands so there's this brand called Simo I'm going to I'm just going to pop the name up there Simo I don't know if that's how it's pronounced but they have rings that I think are stunning absolutely stunning beautiful just to die for of course I cannot afford it if I could I would
definitely have a whole collection of their rings but they helped me understand what types of jewelry that I like so I would say follow certain brands you don't have to like go hunting for Brands but if you notice you know there's this form of ring or this form of earrings or just a certain look that you like and is coming out of a certain brand follow what that brand is doing look at what they're doing look at their pieces and it could give you inspiration on how to stack or it can give you inspiration on
what you want to gather or pick as you're also shopping for jewelry there's also other brands like if you're more of a like daintier girl my friend just told me about one but my friend just told me about this brand called flare and Co and she likes very minimalist and dainty jewelry so if you're more that route that might be a brand that you could follow so I also get a lot of inspiration from Brands especially like sometimes when it's brands that I can't really afford they just give me inspiration and then I go and
hunt for a look similar to theirs which I'm okay with doing with not getting like the original because the original could be $300 I'm not paying $300 for a ring I'm sorry I'm not doing it but I could get inspiration from it next next thing are occasions and style so when I collect pieces whether it's jewelry or other accessories more often than not I don't actually think about my closet too much I more so think about my vibe and the places that I frequent so I'm not someone who you know goes to the Opera I'm
not someone who goes to the fanciest places to have dinner of course I have little pieces of dainty jewelry that I could wear to dinner and stuff like that but for the most part I'm someone who goes to flea markets goes to Vintage shops uh goes and have uh halves goes to have brunch or dinner or something with friends you know at a chill place I don't do anything that's too too too sophisticated I guess so and I feel like my jewelry kind of reflects that my jewelry reflects how I don't want to call myself
fun because I think I'm kind of boring but it kind of reflects where I am currently in life but I would say that should be kind of a huge source of inspiration for you if you're someone who's consistently going to like very classy dinners then my jewelry the ones that I have might not be you know of your style but that's okay because you're kind of recognizing oh the Places that I frequent or the places that I want to frequent these styles of jewelry doesn't really work for that occasion so it might help you in
picking better options so I hope that helps when it comes to inspiration once again I'm telling you you I feel like you don't really need to focus on what's in your closet like the clothing that you have because then that's probably going to overwhelm you like you're going to think oh but it doesn't go with this and it doesn't go with that not every single piece of jewelry that you have will go with all your clothes that's why you should more so uh focus on where you're going like the vibe the places that you frequent
the most there next is what I'm focusing on and when I say focusing on I'm talking about are you looking at the overall look or the item itself so let's say you find a picture on Pinterest that you really really like you need to figure out what it is about that picture that you like so if I see a picture of a girl who has a stack of bracelets I'm going to ask myself why exactly do I like this combination why do I like this picture why is this inspirational to me and it's going to
point me out to maybe two pieces that she may have on she may have on like a chunky gold and green bracelet and that's what I'm like oh my gosh I love that bracelet and it helps me realize I don't really care for the rest of the bracelets that she has I like this specific one so doing stuff like that kind of helps you find your taste so if you have a Pinterest board where you store all the jewelry that you like or the pictures that incorporate accessories that you like go through and put things
into categories through going through my Pinterest I kind of realized that I love jewelry that has chunky gems and deformed Metals I realized that and I kept seeing it in my board and it made me realize those are things that I need to find it doesn't have to look exactly what these people have but it's a taste that I really really enjoy I also noticed that I really really enjoy nature related jewelry so things with stars or shells or what are those pearls those imperfect pearls the ones that are like weirdly shaped I forgot the
name of them I love those once again it's another deformed type of thing with those pearls but I kind of realized that I really like things that come from nature even flowers and just like I was talking about uh chunky jams with deformed Metals I also like those things separate so I liked deformed metals on their own and I also like just chunky Gems or chunky jewelry on its own as well there's a lot of things when it comes to my taste in jewelry that I would not have realized if it wasn't for my Pinterest
board because I sat and like kind of scrutinized and grouped certain pictures and grouped certain ideas I was able to realize oh this is what I should be looking for when I go thrifting this is what I should be looking for when I'm looking at jewelry instead of replicating notice a pattern that way you can be more creative and it can push you to learn about yourself and learn about how you can style certain things because when you replicate you're going to get stuck at a certain point and no longer know how to kind of
style pieces because you're so focused on copying exactly what other people have instead of kind of building off of what they have and being inspired from what they have and working with what you have and with working with what you're able to find to make those Collections and those looks so that was the chapter on what are you focusing on so just try to remember that you should be asking yourself why when you look at a picture okay why do I like this picture oh these two pieces okay then what do I like about these
two pieces oh these two pieces has uh have these two features that I like what are those two features okay I have these two features now when I go and look for accessories I'm going to look for accessories that have these features because I like these features the end next thing is cultural impact if you come from an ethnic or cultural background and you don't have at least one piece from your culture I'm not judging you because you know that used to be me that used to be me you you know but you need to
find something take something from your mom or take something that's I don't even know take something from someone from your parents or from a cousin or something or find something here or wherever you live that kind of reminds you of your culture and your ethnic back background I think that is so important I don't know why but it just sometimes builds character or adds a story behind an accessory piece so take for instance this camera this camera has two bracelets tied to it so I couldn't find the lanyard I don't know exactly what it's called
but that strap that you have to hold your camera my camera I couldn't I couldn't find it so what I did was I connected two bracelets that I got while I was back in Cameroon I connected it to the camera so I can actually untwist it and attach it to a pair of jeans that I'm wearing so I can untwist it open it up and attach it to a pair of jeans I'm wearing so the camera itself would be an accessory in addition to these two bracelets that come from my culture I don't know I
just think it can help you think outside of the box and help you kind of think creatively whenever you kind of have a piece from your culture it's just this is just like an optional piece and it could be like a conversation store starter especially if you're not good with like socializing with other people people might be like oh what's that and you can give a little story behind it you don't have to use everything from your culture in a traditional way it can be untraditional as long as it doesn't disrespect your culture please yeah
so like I have waist beads that I haven't worn in a long time but if I wanted to I could strap those waist beads and just add it to a bag and kind of just strap it in there and then it would just lay down here and those waist beads come from my culture so it's already something that I own and something that kind of has has meaning to it cuz it was given to me by my aunt the next thing is experimentation think of unconventional ways of wearing certain pieces that you're picking out or
certain pieces that you already have so let's say you see a really really long chain and you're just like oh is that a waist chain if it's dainty enough you might be able to make it into a necklace like I have this I use this long chain as both a waist chain and a necklace and it's so helpful kind of like looking at it as a versatile piece jewelry can kind of be whatever you want I'm also someone who likes to just add chains to something if it's not long enough to be a waist chain
I'm going to add chain to the end of it to make it longer so it can become a waste chain that's just me that's just me if I don't like something I have anymore as a necklace I'm going to turn it into something else I have this pendant and haven't been able to find like a chain or necklace for it that I like so I just decided to add it onto my shoelace today when I was going out to meet friends so when it comes to experimentation it can either be about pieces you already have
or pieces that you're going to pick up and I'll be honest sometimes I honestly just pick something up just to try because it's $1 to $2 so for example this bag on this bag I have a little bear pin on it I got this this bear pin for a dollar I got it for a dollar and I was just like let me try it maybe it'll be cute and I put it on this bag and I love it I think this is adorable also experimentation doesn't have to be some huge thing experimenting could literally be
you deciding to buy gold jewelry so let's say you've been a silver girly your whole entire life and you decide to step into gold that could be experimentation for you it's something that makes you uncomfortable it's something you haven't done before so don't let people make you feel bad about how you're experimenting you might be looking at me in all the different pieces that I have and be like oh she has this and it's so out there that's true experimentation maybe but to me it's stuff that I'm comfortable with for you it could be just
switching the color the the color of the metals that you wear that could make you uncomfortable so exper it's experimentation to you and on you also while we are on the topic of metals if you're someone who thinks well gold doesn't look good on me I would recommend trying different shades of gold there are very different shades like the very rose Goldy ones or the uh dimmed kind of yellowish ones and then the high yellow kind of like Florida gold there's there's just different shades of gold and you might realize that oh this one was
too yellow and too strong for me so I should have done a lighter shade of gold I would you know recommend trying different shades before or you just think oh this doesn't work for me just saying next thing is timeline things take long and that's okay my jewelry collection has been building in the past like what 3 years and I don't even have all the pieces that I want like I really want more rings but I'm very very picky when it comes to rings I don't know why I think it's because I know what I
like and I don't want to spend money on something that I don't like or won't be happy about experimenting with so I'm very very harsh when it comes to Rings your jewelry collection will not happen overnight it won't you won't just wake up and then go on whatever website and order just a bunch of jewelry and then boom no it's going to take time of looking at different brands looking on different websites going to different thrift stores flea markets and antique shops and finding something that you really like or having something passed down to you
from your grandma your mom your aunt whoever your family things are going to take time and that's okay for me it takes even longer times because I don't know why but I have the tendency to like things that are extremely expensive um it's not even the fact that it's expensive that makes me like it I just usually like it and then when I go and look into it it's just extremely expensive and I'm like you know what I'm just going to look for an alternative I'm just going to try and Thrift it and I do
you know I'm able to find something that replicates it but still makes me extremely happy if finding a replicate of something won't make you as happy as purchasing the real thing just purchase the real thing save up for the real thing do not purchase the replicate because then you're going to purchase the replicate and then still want the original and then you're going to purchase the original and you would have just wasted money just purchase the original the real thing okay so now let's get into the other things like scarves purses whatever else belts and
socks and stuff so take everything I said about jewelry and kind of push that onto the other accessories that's I feel like that's just what you have to do so everything I said about inspiration and what you're focusing on when you're looking at your inspiration and when you're picking out items do that with everything else except for maybe purses I feel like when it comes to purses like you have to think about your closet you have to think about what your closet embodies before you pick out a purse especially since purses are large items and
they take up space with jewelry it's you know a little knickknacks you know that you can store different places with purses it takes up space in your room and your closet so you have to be kind of more strategic about it but you could really take everything I said about jewelry and picking out pieces on everything else don't sleep on scarves I am a scarf lover I love adding scarves to my my bags I love putting them on my head during summer and winter I love putting them over hats shout out to Rihanna cuz Rihanna
was actually the first person that I saw do that like years ago and then ever since then I've been in love with putting scarves around my hats don't sleep on ties don't sleep on broches I actually did want to show my tie maybe I'll show it in pictures but I actually just came back from brunch with friends and I wore an outfit where I was like I don't feel like tying this tie the correct way I don't feel like that whole thing plus I feel like sometimes it's really really stuffy so what I decided to
do was put a broch here and just kind of like pin it just pin it and then I added more broches towards the bottom but I enjoy this so much I think it's so relaxed and I got so many compliments on my tie and how I decided to add roaches onto it but I do hope that this video was helpful and helped you know what to look for so you can make the right decision decision when it comes to picking jewelry you know we haven't talked even about like mixing jewelry but I feel like mixing
jewelry is not as important as knowing what to get first but I hope this video was able to help someone I hope the quality of this video was okay because I just got this new camera I'm no longer using my phone yippee hopefully this place and area that I filmed in was also okay I just needed a place to like have my jewelry set out I don't even think you could see it like these are my bracelets over here I have like my earrings and then of course my necklaces here my next video I'm not
sure what it's going to be it might be kind of like a apartment update or like an apartment tour even though my apartment isn't completely done there are certain things that are missing but like I don't really care at this point I'd rather just show it and then have another video where I show updates thank you so much for watching have a nice day do you see the tie though are you able to see the tie do you see oh my gosh I didn't show my shoes do you see the shoe these are the shoes
I was wearing I added this pendant onto it
