what's up everyone it's Friday and so you know what time it is it's time for what the fitness but first make sure you like the video subscribe to the channel leave a comment for the algorithm you know it's been a while since we've had our friend Mindy on here so let's see what she has to say oh it says stop counting calories I bet I already know what the arguments against calories are going to be but maybe she'll have something new but we'll see blood sugar matters not calories the calorie thing can we just like
say right here right now like whoever is listening between you and I like we're done with calories that it tells us nothing about our health it doesn't give us any vision of good hormonal Health it is an old outdated theory that needs to go away blood sugar on the other hand absolutely tells you how how quickly you're going to age if you're going to store fat if you're going to balance hormones like it is such an important marker that I really feel like if we could put a continuous glucose monitor on every single person in
the world we would end chronic disease yes it's pretty much what I thought it was going to be which is she made a lot of claims about it being an outdated Theory no it is not outdated the plethora of research data supports it and we have metaanalyses of studies where they look at low carb versus high carb equating calories and protein and guess what they find in terms of fat loss basically no difference in fact a slight favoritism towards lowfat diets but it wasn't clinically relevant and that is even if we go into the individual
studies there are individual studies that looked at 24-hour insulin and blood sugar and examined changes in body composition and actually saw that it didn't matter at all what the blood sugar was What mattered was what their calories were uh and then the next part is well it's about Hormone Health which hormones and and how you you notice that they never actually tell you which hormones it's always just like this nebulous it tells you nothing about hormonal Health now the hormone they're usually referring to is insulin they want to make a big deal out of these
kind of short-term Rises and falls in blood glucose but we have studies now that have shown meal derived excursions in glucose do not predict long-term insulin sensitivity in fact we have quite a few studies looking at low carb versus high carb that equate Cal and protein and we see that hba1c really isn't different now why is hba1c important well hba1c is glycosilated hemoglobin since hemoglobin is in the red blood cells those turn over about every two to three months so your hemoglobin will become glycosilated to a certain degree based on your exposure overall to glucose
in your bloodstream if these short-term changes these short-term meal changes in blood glucose were so powerful to affect the 24-hour area under the curve what you would see is higher hba1c in these individuals who are doing higher carb diets but equal in calories and protein and you actually don't really see that now I will say low carb seems to have an advantage at lowering blood glucose more quickly in like the first few weeks but in the long term there doesn't appear to be many differences I'm not saying that low carb diets are bad I'm not
saying that low carb diets aren useful they're absolutely useful and in fact a lot of people prefer a low carb diet because it's easier to fit into the lifestyle if you go out to a restaurant it's hard to avoid fat because there's oil and so much stuff but you can avoid starches you can very specifically ask for vegetables instead of rice or potato or whatever it is so for a lot of people a low carb diet is actually easier to adhere to and it's a perfectly good reason to do a low carb diet but fear-mongering
these short-term blood glucose excp vers and saying nonsense about calories while you nebulously talk about hormones again if we're going to have a discussion about hormones let's at least point out the hormones that we're talking about I'm having to make an assumption because she didn't actually say which hormones she's talking about but if we're talking about insulin and insulin sensitivity you can become more insulin sensitive on a lowfat higher carb diet as long as you adhere to it but then again it may be that low carb is easier to adhere to for a lot of
people and again that is a perfectly good good reason to do it we don't need to make up voodoo magic about low carb in order to justify it I also want to point out that she's really speaking outside of her area of expertise she's not an endocrinologist she's not a nutrition expert she's not a medical doctor she's a chiropractor now I'm not trying to dog Chiropractic as an overall field I am just pointing out that she is way outside her scope by talking about this so if you like low carb by all means do low
carb in fact lower carb settings are the only settings that have two different settings on carbon diet coach my app we have a low carb setting and a ketogenic setting like an actual therapeutic ketogenic setting whereas balanced lowfat plant-based those only have one option but low carb has two so I am not anti- low carb I Am pro low carb as long as people aren't saying crazy like calories don't matter because they do if you're interested in carbon diet coach make sure you click the link in the description download And subscribe today less than $10
