18 points per game is still below average compared to Jimmy's numbers in Miami pre 2025 but his impact is measured on a much deeper level for starters there have been multiple games where Jimmy hasn't on the bench now I know what you're saying in the comments right now but Mike the Golden State Warriors won a championship 3 years ago without Kevin Durant how have they had a problem well that year was certainly an outlier that year was the breakout of Jordan pool as a super sixth man who almost averaged 20 a game and literally almost went 50 40 and 90 during their playoff run on top of Andrew Wiggins having the best year of his career so they didn't struggle as much without Curry on the court but other than that they've been a well below average team when Steph gets a break take this season for example when Steph Curry's on the court this year the Golden State Warriors have an offensive rating of 119 when he's off of the Court the Golden State Warriors have an offensive rating of 107 and that's including the seven game sample that we're using of Jimmy Butler so those numbers could be much worse I mean since Jimmy has joined the team the dubs have an offensive rating of 123. 7 which would be number one in the entire NBA over a full season this isn't just because Jimmy buckets has shown up though the main reason reason this offense has been so dynamic as of late is because Jimmy Butler knows how to get to the free throw line better than almost anybody in the game of basketball even after a quiet game against the Charlotte Hornets Jimmy is averaging a whopping eight free throws per game as a Golden State Warrior and he's making 87.
5% of them that's over seven points per game just from free throws golden state has never had somebody who can impact the game from the line as much as Jimmy Butler does to start his tenure he was literally averaging more free throws made per game as a warrior than anybody in franchise history and the significance of that is anybody in franchise history includes a man by the name of Will Chamberlain that is insanity Jimmy has always been a monster at both getting to the free throw line and cashing out those opportunities but I don't think it's impacted a team he's been on more than how it's impacting Golden State he's running around all the damn time when you have a guy that can get to the free throw line as frequently as Jimmy Butler who's second in the usage rate on the team what happens then is you're giving him a break Stephen A Smith put it perfectly Steph Curry has been carrying this team on his back running around all game without any real opportunity to rest on the court but now with Jimmy Butler getting to the line as much as he is a 36-year-old Stephen Curry can rest without having to step off of the court and the numbers are complete evidence of that since Jimmy has come along Steph is averaging 27 points and 5. 7 assists per game on 48.
