here is the ninth generation of the most popular fitness tracker ever made what is new and it it still the best out there let's expect most people would call this a me band and actually xiaomi prefer to refer to these as the Smart Band series already up to generation 9 believe it or not and they're super popular because of the so many features packed into this small size the accurate Health tracking and last but not least the extra nice price this year it makes no difference because xiaomi smart B 9 happens to be more affordable
than the closest Rivals question is whether it is any better great to meet you by the way I'm Michael the tech Mishka as usually we inspect some cool Tech over here which are the strong the weak sides is it worth upgrading the xiaomi smart B 9 you can check the video index in case you want to fast forward to some of the sections and now we dive heal tracking is what we begin with and don't be trigged by the size smartbot 9 is quite a capable one it invokes a lot of new hardware implementations and
of course here we're going to perform a lot of tests in order to find out whether it collects enough information and how good this information is presented to you of course bunch of tests including side by side comparison with you know HR mounted chest tracker and some other things so let's begin over time xiaomi and their competitors have been adding more and more features to these trackers with Fitness bands the try to be somewhat careful so that experience is good but not any better than their more expensive wearables here the smart BN 9 gets very
close to what some smart watches are able to extract because HR oxygen saturation sleep stress many workouts they're all present and trackable you can decide on your own how far you want to go there because you can set HR samples to be captured every minute or every 30 minutes in case battery endurance is a priority high and low HR alerts or search for irregular heartbeats you can enable all day long stress or spo2 tracking sleep as well the heart rate sensor inside bound 9 is new and delivers pretty good data the strap has to be
tight around your wrist and responsiveness is excellent comparable to the results of measurements taken from a chest HR tracker remarkable performance given the price point indeed but oxygen measurements are also accurate as well as step tracking yeah there are the basic mode which is providing just deep and light sleep distribution or you may switch to advanced mode which is going to fetch awake times in RM based on my sleeping experience from the past few days sleep tracking is among the best in class so I'd consider these values to be mostly trustworthy and they can easily
put to shame even some 2024 smart watches if you practice a lot of sports then maybe this is going to bring some mixed feelings but let me be very clear obviously HR tracking is quite on par with most of the really good fitness trackers out there and there also is a lot of good collected data about most of the workout types it relies on a 6 axis IMU based on accelerometer and gyroscope input steps are properly counted and most of the workouts that I've had come with pretty good results even just based on non-gps input
correct there is no geolocation chip inside of me 9 meaning that if you would like to have more details Su just map from your cycling or running activities and prefer to keep your phone inside the backpack the variety of workouts is sort of mindblowing if you use the global version of the band there is a way to link to straa of course the Chinese Edition won't let you do it though some of the workouts may be automatically detected at a cost of slightly increased battery consumption concerning the design visually it looks very similar to the
band 8 and most people think that there have been zero changes in terms of design truth is that there are mostly changes on the inside but for sure I can tell you that xiaomi have swapped the location for these pins but visually they still maintain this very recognizable shape from the past few years band nine is with a metal middle body you can well notice this crash that I managed to engrave recently definitely more durable than plastic which is very important about the mounting of the straps I recommend such that come with a meow joint
because I've had this plastic one popping out a few times already the original bands are very nice however the defaults still come with a button something I'd happily replace for a buckle based strap in my earliest convenience if I were you good news is that all the band eight compatible straps and gadgets fit the model 9 as well Nan 9 is lightweight stylish rather discret and yet very customizable if you have a modest collection of straps concerning its Hardware details well I feel that xiaomi intentionally don't bring too premium experience the pack is modest the
basic combo arrives with a strap and a charging cable the manufacturer seems to be once again 70 my who have been assigned to make the previous generation as well most of the health tracking sensors are positioned here on the back side and you can use the Mian 9 in Pebble mode or attach it to a next STP something thing I've never really done myself since the review of Mi band 8 last year there's the 1.62 in AMOLED display there's a bigger battery for up to 21 days per charge with quick charging support there's the Sixaxis
IMU inside precise HR and spo2 tracking sensors this ambient light sensor Bluetooth 5.4 there are more than 100 tra workout modes the band is ip68 water resistant weighs just 15 G and the app for control ring it from a smartphone is called me Fitness it is a fact there are a bunch of good Hardware changes that happen with band N9 as a starter uh very nice upgrade about performance because the system on a chip is new a lot more responsive and I think this improves a lot the overall user experience and the health tracking features
as well we can see the app launching happens significantly quicker as compared to some of the former Generations also the display in my opinion stunning well obviously as colorful is what we get with band 8 the big difference is the pig bright is stopping now at 1,00 nits which correct me from wrong but I think it's the brightest display on a fitness tracker that we have seen throughout 2024 thus far um the only remark I have because it has an allo brightness feature I think when I go Outdoors the always on displays rather pale hot
to see most likely because they want to give you slightly more optimal battery endurance show me speak highly of their new sensor implementation quoting between 10 and 30% Improvement of the accuracy but I think the biggest the most significant upgrade of band 9 is the battery life it is phenomenal all the tracking features enabled with their most intensive settings always on mode with auto brightness and 1hour workout is going to eat less than 20% per day which is insanely good funny enough with aod the battery life is getting close to what older Generations were delivering
without it recharging back to full happens within less than 1 hour and obviously if you choose battery friendly settings up to a month per charge is possible I can speak highly of the display too true I did complain about the aod mode brightness already maybe i' note down the lack of recognizable Brands about the hardened glass protection but the resolution the colors the responsiveness really good Shi stick to a single Row for the up list with these rather big icons there's no possibility to increase the font size though and of course there are bunch of
good watch faces here I'd again remind you that the global version is the better choice because with the Chinese Edition some of the watch faces may have Chinese characters as well software-wise you can see that it's all good responsive interface which is looking great on this 60 HZ display refresh rate show me call it hyper OS it is B on the very lightweight and basic rtos quite polished keeping the same logic and structure as we can see with the last few Generations you can swipe left and right to check about the main widgets and you
can nicely customize these via a wizard inside the smartphone app just notice this ability to have two of them at a single screen the amount of apps is just about right and besides the health tracking and the workouts there are the usual alarm and timers and there's a calendar app a to-do list feature and so on you know some handy productivity enhancers sh we provide frequent updates for the series so in case there are bugs or issues I'm pretty sure they will be fixed within reasonable amount of time the smartphone app is called xiaomi Fitness
and no you no longer can use the Zep Live app saying it because it was possible for the bands made by Hami up until Mi band 7 I feel that Mi Fitness is already capable enough having not just the basic but a fair amount of good features and customizations it's also the best way to review and analyze all the collected Health tracking data it also is the right place to review and download the available free watch faces it's quite nice to see that the Mi band series are still focusing on the freebies especially knowing that
the price is so attractive yet another awesome release for less than $50 just for the record I've based my research on the Chinese edition of smart ban 9 therefore I strongly suggest you to get the global version much more Polished in terms of software supports more interface languages and has the ability to link to more thirdparty databases such as straa plus more and nicer watch faes it's the only way to experience the true power of xiaomi smart Bon 9 anyway which just like any other piece of tech might have its little drawbacks the most significant
out of w in my opinion is the inability did respond to Notifications I think it's about time to completely retire the button-based traps to make the NFC a standard feature for the global release and probably bring in some basic smart assistant feature in the end band 9 feels very much like band eight just better in almost every possible way because we have better display with greater top brightness uh we have significantly improved battery life some software refinements which seem to do a big difference here and there and of course the improved system on a chip
with a better health tracking sensors which deliver a lot more accurate overall health tracking so to me that's an no-brainer on the other hand if you already have band eight maybe even the band seven or band Six unless you need some of those new features they still remain very relevant but I want to be very clear that this for around $40 is the best orall fitness tracker of 2024 thus far really hard to beat in something which is going to remain relevant for the next few years to come so like it or not you can
