Summarize YouTube Videos Instantly—Save Hours with Free AI

all right I have watched a YouTube video lately about the latest AI news and the YouTube Creator said in this video that if you are still watching summaries or YouTube videos that summarize the AI Trends and and the news and everything that you are already falling behind and then I thought about it and I think that the Creator was right so um this is why I have built an automation for that which generates a simple email or or daily email for me and summarizes all the YouTube videos that I usually would watch instead and waste

a lot of time because most of the time it's the same information over and over again and uh the fear of missing out is leading us to to watch more and more videos about the same topic so this is why I create the solution and I'm going to show you what I have done here so that you can copy it and also uh not waste time watching news videos on YouTube all right let's dive in so for this automation I used make.com and the important part is that you can build everything that I'm showing here

for free uh so most of the time the fre tier is enough for you to build exact the same scenario um if you don't know what make.com is just check out my other videos I have prepared some instructional videos and um it's a very basic automation here um so this shouldn't be a problem for you to build it yourself I start with the first module which is watch videos in a playlist so it's an official YouTube uh module and this is what in for new videos in a specific playlist so I created in my own

account in my own YouTube account a playlist where I add videos that I would usually watch myself I just add them to this playlist and then I linked the playlist here and for testing I had a limit of three videos but um if it's live I just remove the limit and then um every new videos will be imported here and then used further down then I used apy or apii I don't know because YouTube itself has no API that we can use to get the transcript so this whole summary thing um via email is based

on the transcript I have tried to to build my own script I have I tried to get it from YouTube directly without API I have tried to use perplexity to get the transcript and sometimes it worked sometimes it didn't the easiest way is to use apy for that um for this you need to open apy so after you have logged in in your free apy account you click on store then you search for YouTube transcript and then I sorted by most popular and then here you have YouTube transcript ninja ninja because in my monkey mind

if something is popular it's also working and good um then you open it and here you see that it costs $10 per 1,000 results one result is one transcript but the beauty is that we have in apy in the free here we have $5 per month uh for free so we can use this actor a lot even on the free tier and then what you have to do so you opened it then you can paste in a YouTube link here and click on Save and start and if you do this a new window opens and

it takes a while to get the transcript so after around 20 seconds we see finished total one request one succeeded zero failed so we know that this worker or this actor is working and we can check out the output and here we can see that we got the transcript of the video um the URL and also the title so we know that this actor is working now I go back to the worker and now what we need to link this one to make.com we click on Json and copy this code here again don't worry I

can also not not program um just copy this one then we go back to make.com and here in apy where I selected the module run an actor I did my connection to apy so just click on ADD and then log into apy and then everything is connected I selected the actor that we just tested and that worked and then I copied this Json code that I just copied from apy in here and instead of so I it it looked something like this right and instead of this URL that we got from here we need to

set a variable and for this um I check out the output from the first module and it gives me back the video ID but only the ID not the full link and this is why I need to add it here um after this so instead of this number we need to add the video ID so add the video ID here click on save everything else is or can be used as is then we need to get back the data because if I check out the output it's a lot of things a lot of information but

no transcript directly so we need a new module also from apy get data set items and here you use the same connection and then you just uh select the default data set ID so from this list there is somewhere default data set ID you select it you click on Save and that's it so now we have here under output we have the transcript so next is we are sending this transcript to open AI so here again um create a chat completion so it we are sending all this data to open AI um for all latest

model and then I used this prompt uh basically it's saying okay um I will send you a transcript from a video please summarize it in such a way that I learn as much as possible and include all important things I use CET GPT itself to create those prompts so I just tell CET GPT what I want from it and then I ask ask it to write the prompt itself and most of the time it's okay then I add the video title so from a previous module I link the URL and I add the transcript um

from this module here and also I tell the structure um the structure of the output that I'm expecting from Chet GPT and important I want to have it as a markdown format and here's the example so I wanted title with the link then I want the context and relevance I want the key points out of the video I want the implication applications and applications and further resources and next steps and that's it so no system PR nothing so it's very basic again if you're not happy with the output just adjust the text here let me

scroll through it so that you can read it if you interested just play around so that it works for you then I use the text aggregator tool and the text aggregator tool creates out of bundles so here's the output two or three bundles and it Loops through this process for every bundle that the source module that I defined here so I defined the first module as the source module in this text aggregator module and for every bundle that this module outputs uh this the modules in between the text aggregator and the first module get executed

so this is how the text aggregator works and then it Aggregates the text that I get from chat GPT so I get fre answers and the text aggregator Aggregates it so that I see three bundles as the input which is always the answer from cat GPT so here and then this module creates one output bundle um which is the combination of those three bundles then I sent it to markdown or markdown to HTML and this is just a personal prefer preference because I think think or sometimes if I ask jgpt to write in HTML it's

sometimes wrong or I get text that I don't want or styling so I'm always asking jgpt to to Output in markdown and then I use one module that creates markdown to HTML and then I have no problem um yeah so I'm sending the data that I get from the text aggregor dat to the smackdown module which then gives me my text as as HTML and now the last step is that I use this new created H html text in this last module sent email so it's an official Gmail module and then I just added my

own email address I connected my own account so I'm sending an email to myself a note to myself I give a subject um AI YouTube summary from and then I use this variable now to get a timestamp and I just put in the HTML text from here I saved it and then you click on run and this scenario will then read the videos from your playlist and summarize them and send it to you as an email so it looks like this and now it's easy for me just to skim through the text see if if

it is important for me or not um and if it is I will watch the video just by clicking on the link and then um I will check the video itself but most of the time it's not relevant or it's enough for me to get this high level picture of it without spending three hours to listen to the full full interview um yeah especially for those um business related business related topics it's um it's yeah they they they they create an An Itch in my brain that I have to watch it because um so maybe

I'm I'm missing out on something very important or the biggest heck that will blow up my um my business and most of the time it's just common sense and information that you have heard hundreds or thousands of of times um and by this scenario or or with this scenario I I get the satisfaction that I'm not losing information um because I just can read the summary and most of the time I just from the summary I understand that it is not a video worth watching um yeah so hope it helps you hope it makes sense
