welcome to the Heavy Spoilers Show i'm your host Paul in this video we're breaking down The Last of Us season 2 episode 5 is now here and as always it's packed with Easter eggs changes to the games and a lot of things you might have missed throughout this video we'll be going through it all and giving our review of the episode as always major game spoilers will be saved for the end in the save it for spoilers section which sounds like spoilers section that's the full name now if you enjoy it please hit the thumbs
up and make sure you subscribe for all our coverage on the show that out the way though thank you for clicking this now let's get into The Last of Us he said it's a mirror now as has become pretty common place in the show we begin with flashback flashback flashback rejoining Hanrahan you might remember her from Isaac's defection there the WLF were a band of rebels who were just wearing civilian clothing here though they've now got uniforms and this looks more in line with Fedra's outfits as we discussed last week Isaac's pretty much become the
thing he hated again Fedra oppressed people and thus they ended up turning against them however they're now oppressing the Scars and he's basically traded one war for another isaac is now clearly the leader as we discover he's in charge of making the big decisions i was getting executed isaac would have come himself hanrahan is also possibly playing off Emma who we know was a leader of the group at one point this was alongside a man named Jason but both were either captured or killed now this is the hospital which is a location we visit in
the game this is actually where the wolves made their base and a lot of things go down here i always thought this is one of the creepiest locations and have always been fascinated with its history as they kind of touch upon this was where the outbreak happened at in the city day one the infected were rushed here and they were taken to the basement and then placed in quarantine however when more and more people started coming in the place just got completely overrun eventually things got so bad the entire government just gave up all sites
like this they basically blew up the stairs blocked the elevators and then locked the doors job done they do touch upon this with the conversation that follows as it's mentioned that things have been locked since 2003 now obviously we know this didn't contain the infection but it did contain the infected there because of this though some have been stuck there for decades i don't really want to spoil too much more of that but players will know there's a big thing that comes from it the whole floor was empty not even rats yep focus on the
rats there seeing that seal door though was such an eerie sight and it appears later in the episode now from here we cut to an office and see a pain up on the wall i did vaguely remember seeing one of these um at the boss in QZ in episode 1 but I spent way too long skimming through the episode for it and couldn't find it but it was there in my memory i remember it anyway it's here we join Sergeant Park we discover that the treaty between the scars and wolves has been broken and it
is possible that leader the prophet was killed here around this time anyway we do know that she was executed by Isaac and there is a shrine for her at M's gate i really went in depth on all the history of the two sides so if you want to know more check out that video what it means though is that the wolves need all the soldiers they can get there's questions over why Parks killed some of her own and this includes her son as we learn the unit went through the hospital to clear things but they
discovered the virus had mutated it's now gone airborne we later see Leon growing into the wall which is a site you'd often come across in the game i also wonder if the use of the name Leon was a reference to the other iconic horror survival franchise Resident Evil that of course features Leon Kennedy so it might be a reach wait no come back we We'll have battery strikes i promise where's everyone going bingo beyond that though it's introducing spores into the series these were a massive thing in the game but in that they were there
from the beginning right from the off characters would enter sporefilled areas and immediately haveed on gas masks last week we saw Ellie getting bit which was different to how Dena learned of her immunity in the game there her mask was cracked in the subway and then Dena tried to give her hers obviously this would kill her so Ellie quickly did a mask off moment to reveal the truth so yeah spores are really important and I even thought at one point they might not include them how about they were so tight in Nora's death that I
think they just hit a point where they had to the other important thing to note is that Park doomed her own son though this has completely destroyed her it came at the cost of the greater good the airborne version hasn't spread to the surface and thus humanity's safe however in order to achieve this she had to sacrifice a child obviously this reflects Joel and Ellie's relationship with the former refusing to give the ladder up now though it might be hypocritical you can see the argument for how both did the right thing it's again painting out
these complex shades of gray and it's a motif I really loved i do wonder though if Ellie's journey into the basement might end up unleashing them obviously in the game you know it was already a thing so people just wore gas masks in the show though you're more kind of focused on expressions and acting so you want to see people's faces so taking away the masks made sense normally though someone would have wandered into this basement and been dead in 20 minutes here though Ellie's going to leave it and potentially leave the door open too
so this could spread them and perhaps open up Pandora's box so not only may they have skipped out on a potential cure she may have made things even worse yay i also wonder if the chatter of this has affected the other soldiers judgment last week we saw in the subway how soldiers said it was supposed to be clear i did theorize that sometimes the soldiers were just like "Looks dark and scary and they might lock us in here [ __ ] that." Yes it's clear it's clear like who's who's going to check so maybe stuff
like this you know the soldiers locking in their own sons the chatter spread amongst the ranks and they just stop searching places properly anyway that takes us to the titles now this is normally the point of the video where we drop a sponsor but we haven't got one yeah t-shirts t-shirts t-shirts we're having a big sale on the site right now and if you pick up two of either our Wolves Clickers or Cortisep shirt you'll get 15% off if you pick up three you'll get 20 and that's sitewide with it also including our brand new
Thunderbolts/ Thundercats inspired one and also our Galactis Devarro of Worlds you'll get 20% off and look fantastic either way where we pick up is back at the theater for Seattle Day 2 i did kind of hope that they'd end the episode last week with this but I was glad to see it pop up here this is a motif that they use in the game and it helps the player to keep track of things because it gets complicated later now though you can't make out this sign on the marquee this is for the band Sick Habit
this is an in universe band that Dena talks about at the record store in the game it was Cassandra but this could be setting up something later ellie plays a guitar in the back and finds all their equipment for the show you can spot their name on the amp as well in the game you find their flyer and it's advertising this at the Pinnacle Theater which is where they are now now in the game things begin with Ellie waking up at the theater the prior day ended with her playing future days on stage and then
falling asleep in the chair obviously they reorder that for the end and Ellie then goes in to meet Dena in the game she's been in the radio room upstairs overhearing where everyone is in the game it's a dedicated system whereas for the show they just had the walkie-talkie from last week there's obviously no radio silence either as the Scars don't believe in using technology invented before the outbreak they see that as the old world and thus something that represents sin in their mind the infection was sent as a punishment thus they've gone back to basics
and embraced a life of embracing nature they cut the scars in their face to remind them that life's imperfect and that everything has a beauty and ugly side to it but yeah because of that there's no worry of them picking up radio chatter also I love how Dena's using cartridges as a ruler is it cartridge or magazine these are mags they're mags you absolute [ __ ] dummy i'm not American mate yeah what's What's a gun give me a butter knife in a bowl of wa we also get a look at Dena's bracelet in the
game Ellie actually wears this later on this is Aamsa charm which is prominent in the Middle East it's supposed to be a protection charm and is used quite a lot in Israel notably Dena is Jewish in the game but it's not been specified in the show thus far especially as we never saw the synagogue section of Seattle does tie into a character though you might notice that Norah's got the same one and it's kind of playing off how we're not so different you and I we're all the same person and this we all have our
own stories to tell anyway Ellie comes in having turned on the power this is something that you do in the game but instead of going to the basement you go to the roof there you find the theat's previous owner who tried to turn on the power himself unfortunately they did it wrong and got fried but parts of their life still remain in the theater such as a tenton bed set up on the balcony that we see the pair here ellie then goes to the back of the theater which is filled with band equipment again it's
akin to that scene from the game where you discover a guitar behind the curtain yeah there's things set up but in the game things were on boxes and stuff which were laid out for a specific reason like that which we'll discuss in the spoil spoil me Paul says section Paul the spoils section just like the game Ally then plays Future Days by Pearl Jam though this song wasn't around in 2003 the creative team have said they just don't care it's such an important song for both Ellie and Joel and basically represents their entire relationship legend
is you the outbreak happened in the game in 2013 with a show happening in 2003 that was so the release year of season 1 could be in line with the year it was set but to be honest I kind of just wish they'd kept the original timeline i was also surprised that they uh brought the song across and made such a point of it as they haven't even had Joel playing it to Elliot part two actually opens with him riding out to meet her and he then sits in her room and plays her it it
represents the hope for their future and how better days are ahead future days are going to be the best until Abby shows up it's very important though and you can tell Ellie's hit with Lassier she also stands the guitar properly which builds up how she laid it down last week both are signs of respect as when she and Joel had fallen out it was just dumped on the floor the creative team on the podcast said this broke Joel's heart and then it appeared in her room the next day also propped up making me think the
pair indeed talked on the porch which I feel is a scene we might get next week either way Dean has mapped out the wolves patrol and charted a way for them to navigate the terrain there is a blind spot and a building that the group don't patrol which we find out later why ellie rightly guesses there's a reason for this and she's uh not as unbook smarty as Dena says she is and this actually skips over a massive massive section of the game the show also changes how he reintroduced Jesse now in the game I
think we've talked about it before but just in case you haven't seen Tommy actually headed out before Dena and Ellie jackson had been locked down after he left but Maria let the pair leave with the instruction that they had to bring him back he was on a rip roaring rampage of revenge and had murdered several scars with his sniper he'd also taken out several members of Aby's group and was currently public enemy number one elliot was desperate to find him and they had a rough idea of where he was over the radio they learned he'd
been cited at Hillrest and thus the plan was to mount up and head there sadly Dena was struggling due to her pregnancy so Ellie left her and went there by herself it's a section overrun with constant challenges close calls and lots of really tough sections the wolves and infected are rampant and this is where they introduce the dog stalking mechanic later on we see this adapted for the episode and basically the dogs pick up your scent even when you're stealthing you've got to be quick and hide and yeah I love seeing that bit in the
episode now though they run into Jesse this section doesn't ultimately lead anywhere you end up stealing a car from the wolves and then get chased through the streets by them and the infected eventually you crash it and travel back to the theater so with Tommy not being ahead of them and like in general amounting to nothing story-wise I can completely see why they cut it upon returning back to the theater we then get a further flashback this is between Ellie and Tommy and it has the pair practicing sniping i discussed this section in our episode
one breakdown and and feel like they kind of adapted it into that then develops into a scene with Joel which again I think might be something to do next week so I'll save it for the spoilers verse into the spoiler verse we'll call it in the game we then have the night and Jesse falls asleep dena is also pretty rough as well and obviously she's pregnant ellie wants to desperately question Norah though while she has the chance so again she heads out on her own which leads into some of the scenes we get later now
in the show Dena and Ellie head out they talk about the kid and how she'll name it Ellie if it's a girl and Elijah if it's a boy ellie elijah same spelling but it's something we'll talk about later on in the spoiler section we then see a sign for Noodle Bowl which is an in universe restaurant you can see it later on in the game at the stadium coming across the side of a wolves massacre we see the bodies of dead scars under a shrine the mural is also painted similar to one you find in
the game however there it was painted on a truck when you head towards the TV tower there she appears to be somber but in the show she looks like she's smiling due to the freshness of the bodies it also feels like a retaliation for the TV station attack that in itself was a retaliation for killing the convoy and we have these constant cycles of violence the Skulls and Wolves story very much mirrors Abby and Ellie who are stuck in one themselves abby went out to get revenge against Joel and now Ellie's going out to get
revenge against her she'll kill others on the way and then there'll be more who want revenge on her dena even touches upon this when they talk about the first person that she killed this was actually brought up on the podcast when Dena asked Ellie about hers there they said it was strange Ellie didn't immediately ask Dena they admitted they were saving the answer for down the line which we now get here and it's really traumatic it actually expands some stuff from the game where we learn a man came after her mother she ended up stabbing
him and that was classed as her first kill dena was then raised by her older sister Talia who we hear more about at the synagogue we do know that she died before 2038 and that it was roughly kind of near towards where part two began her story here basically builds upon the character's defiance and how that often leads to loss she didn't listen to the people who told her not to go out which is something you can also apply to the show this just led to the death of those close to her which is a
theme that reoccurs with several characters she talks about how she was told to stay inside and not play outside alone she did it anyway though with a gun this was in Santa Fe which is in New Mexico she has mentioned the ravens in the game as well which was a nice bit of world building they were the equivalent of the Fireflies and wolves and basically that city's group i love this scene as Isabella displays anger grief and frustration all at once it's great how she just gets Ellie to guess and implies it's obvious what happened
she says how she was eight whereas in the game she was 10 she also glosses over how it doesn't really matter how she got to Jackson which implies that she did dark stuff along the way i did always kind of want to know what they got there but we do get this line how did you get to Jackson doesn't matter this is what matters which just speaks the mentality a lot of characters tend to have in the show that is that the past is the past you know Tess dies Joel doesn't get to grieve and
barely ever spoke about Sarah they even made a big point of it while he brought up how she wasn't his daughter after he scolded her that's why their conversation at the end of the first game in season 1 became so powerful he was discussing how she and Ellie would have liked each other which even weeks before would have been too painful to talk about in this world you're just meant to accept loss and then move on hara Abby Ellie and Dena they're avenging the past due to the way the show gives us flashbacks we might
even see Dena's past at some point she also lays out why she went with Ellie she doesn't believe what happened to Joel was justified regardless of what he did it's all laid out in front of Ellie and the viewer later in the episode bella also subtly shows guilt as Dena says this i'm pretty sure Dena would have felt differently if she had have known what Joel would have actually done though but it's a fantastic use of dramatic irony dena then says "If she dies it's on her." The change of her going with Ellie in the
show also reminded me a lot of Ellie's mother she was bitten while pregnant which likely led to Ellie's immunity i'm unsure how much Ellie knows of what happened that night that we saw in season 1 but there is a chance that Dena having a kid you know she could get bitten and we get a new immune person unlikely to happen considering the show sticking so close to the main beats of the game but yeah think think it's worth throwing out there cutting tonight we then see as the pair move by a checkpoint these locations were
dotted throughout the game including the god pill boxes ellie and Dina then crouch up against this and you often find items in them this then takes them to an office which is a part of the federal building this plays off a scene in the game where you hit up a building filled with stalkers it's one of the first massive encounters you have with them and it's absolutely terrifying you have to navigate through the floors and then eventually fall through a window with one the streets of Seattle are gushing with water and she's then taken through
a pipe into the sewers the membronics building also appears to be a mashup of other sequences too that seems to be the brewery section and the black ray hotel with Lev i also love how Dena says shooting has to be a last resort like she's home you can't fire your gun and then pretty much draws it straight away if it gets bad and we have to make a choice between shooting or running we run like plan out the window dena also says I love you to Ellie which is like famous last words now in episode
one we saw a stalker and I was actually surprised it wasn't in a pack typically that's how the creatures tend to move and they rely on strategy and stealth the cortiseps also have a hive connection and thus they aim to work in groups they're far smarter than the typical infected and basically like the raptors in Jurassic Park normally if an infected spots someone they just rush them but these wait for the perfect time to attack i do feel like Seattle's got more of them because it's been dealing with the fungus for longer they obviously had
their day one ground zero outbreak but Fedra also lost control of the city ras Boston and Jackson they've had things locked down this place has had a big change of leadership fedra are also bad in other places but here they were clearly terrible like the ones with Joel in season 1 they at least took that kid in to to make sure they were okay and had relative control of the city even though they killed the kid but they were infected to be fair but yeah Fedra just seems yeah like you know it was about oppressing
the people and thus the people rose up but in that I'm sure the infected had time to grow as well now we also know that clickers and bloasers are what happens if the infection goes unchecked for long enough as it just gets worse and worse the cordiceps obviously evolved in being able to jump into humans and it might have even evolved itself and be creating these smarter stalkers they're so dangerous though and in the game absolutely hate them like give me a room full of clickers any day i love how the seasons are really ramping
up the infected scenes though the first one was really front-loaded but towards the end they got a little sparse rather than one episode we've had a big scene every episode and it just keeps up the danger they even use the tactics the creatures do in the source material and one draws your attention while the others attack you from the sides luckily the pair get back up and Jesse arrives just in time i did wonder if him sticking his hand out and the way Ellie looks at him like there was a second she thought it was
Joel joel would often pop up and save her so yeah that felt like they were playing off that also it's important to know that none of the group turn off their torches because the infected don't respond to light it just doesn't stimulate them obviously though if you put that flashlight on and a person's around that they're going to notice it instantly the pair that make a run from the building and we see a truck there that says Ferguson i did wonder if this was a nod to Rebecca Ferguson who played the stalker in episode 1
not that Rebecca Ferguson they then continue past a truck that says WLT Freight change that T to F you get WLF and their full name is the Washington Liberation Front so maybe that's like the Washington Liberation Truck they then run into a park which stops the WLF dead in their tracks as we learn this is scar territory and it's a place you're heading to in the game they really keep up the pacing there because you literally go from tensene in the office to sewers and then this and those whistles still haunt me today jesse also
discusses how he tracked them due to leaving the map in the theater and later on I'll discuss how that pays off down the line but it's important to note for now Jesse also reveals that Tommy came out with them but since arriving they've split up so I do wonder if Tommy's gone on his rampage but yeah you you should have gone on that in the first place he was really showing how destructive a path of vengeance was and Ellie and Dino were pretty shocked by it so it made sense to have that as you were
questioning whether you were really doing the right thing similar to the game though Jesse just wants to take them home but Ellie's remaining stubborn we then get a sound that haunts my horns every moment of my life this is how you're introduced to the scars in the game and yeah what a way to throw you in at the deep end they do change things up for the show though in the game Ellie's moving through and then get shot in the shoulder with an arrow not Dina you remove that by holding R1 but you then got
to deal with them moving through the trees really tense and they also bring across the hanging scene he's explaining something i'll tell you about it i know what Isaac is planning i can help you they are nested in sin he is nested in sin free him and he may over love now he is free now he is free i know they're trying to humanize the scars for the show look I know but I would have loved it if this was the first time we properly saw them like you're just running from one group you come
across this you're like "What the [ __ ] going on?" It's just really messed up disembowing someone and it paints out the picture of what happened at the TV station now just in the same way we have Dean and Ellie summize that the WLF maintain a loose radio protocol the Scars have their own form of communication which is that whole whistling thing the whistles all have different meanings as well and they're basically their version of the radios just in the same way the WLF operate in secret I love how they also have this way they
do it too well as high secret as a high-pitched whistle can be the hanging is also a sort of flip on the interrogation scene last week the guy here is begging and will say whatever they want to keep him alive i'll give up any info the dog isn't the one talking on Screen Crush it's really just Ryan putting on a voice the Scars don't care though whereas Isaac was desperate to learn things fleeing into the forest Ellie then makes a mad dash jesse and Dina then go back to the theater and thus we just about
end up with how the scenario happens in the game may she guide us may she guide us ellie basically frogs her hoodie and [ __ ] and makes it look like a rock thing you know what he did he did it in the two towers with a caveman looks like a stone we then see the long grass from the games in the game you're able to hide in this while crouching which allows you to move about unseen we then see the dog patrols and also an ambulance this foreshadows the future nightmare few level which is
much later in the game and if you know you know she then crouches and we see the sign for Lakeville Hospital which is what it's called in the game in that Ellie goes "All Metal Gear Solid." And takes out a girl playing Hotline Miami on the PS VA rip PS VA girl this came out a few years before the first game which is why you don't have it here you couldn't even have a PSP as as that dropped in 2004 but was hoping they were going to do like Game Boy Girl or something i do
think it's a shame h they cut this because it does play off in a way later down the line that kind of shows things from the other side now in the game we learned all the people were packing up and readying for the next move however here they're on full alert as there's a huge war going on one of the dogs then notices Ellie's scent as mentioned earlier they can track you in the game and you can see a trail via listening mode dogs were also used to hammer home how much perspective can change things
you'd see some as ravenous hunters and then when playing as Abby you'd play the games alongside them the dogs also called Barney which might play off how the one in Jackson's called Buckley so again it's sort of a mirror but for now it's a ravenous killer luckily though we see as Ellie scurries into a small hole a small childlike hole that we won't look any further into it reminds me of the games though and the first season where she ends up heading into places Joel can't now it's much quicker than the game as Ellie just
ducks in and then we see Nora you also hear how someone's on the run and the soldiers are asking her about it gamers will know what that is but here Norah is basically patching up the wounded from the scars fights you do interact with her doing this at one point in the game and you see her helping people out we then see her grab a pot of bandages and going to clean up it's just like the game as she then walks to a sink and is then confronted by Ellie last week we had Isaac saying
how he has hospitals automatic weapons and advanced tech compared to the scars and yet they're still beating him that was also referenced by Hanrahan who said they can't afford to lose the hospital this is their outpost but I also feel like they're acting like guardians they know what lies in the basement and might even be the last line of defense again the Last of Us world every villain is someone's hero i also think it's important to show Norah helping people rather than being this violent remorseless killer dialogue here is also very very similar to most
other lines from the game put that [ __ ] down put that [ __ ] down you remember me you remember me yeah you remember me yeah you remember me what do you want what do you want abby was here earlier where's Abby i don't know i don't know you shoot me the sound will have every soldier come running you'll still be dead you shoot me the sound will have every soldier come running you'll still be dead tell me where she went and I'll think about letting you go tell me where she is and maybe
I let you go we could have killed you we could have killed you maybe you should have maybe you should have or maybe you should have stayed the [ __ ] out of Jackson or maybe you should have stayed the [ __ ] out of Jackson where's Abby where's Abby you still hear his screams i hear them every night at night I still hear his screams yeah that little [ __ ] got what he deserved yeah that little [ __ ] got what he deserved norah still has a shaved head though even though it's 3
months later in case you missed our episode two breakdown this is most likely due to Toddy Gabriel filming for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet which is the next Naughty Dog game that is her third Naughty Dog project as well as she was also in the Uncharted movie norah then says she's sorry that Ally had to see it happen this calls back to Dena mentioning to Ellie earlier how no one deserves to see something like that although when she goes to calling him a [ __ ] yeah it gets gets a bit triggering i do think Norah
has some regret though as we can see her eyes tearing up it all went wrong as they intended to only confront Joel and Ellie was never actually meant to be there it's a sliding doors moment as I wonder what her mindset would be had she not seen the brutality with her own eyes nora has trauma from what happened though despite her friends slaughtering Joe the revenge brought her nothing but pain and nightmares it hammers home the cycle of revenge and whether it's a bad or a good thing it's tough to say in this story but
seeing that it doesn't endear your grief it doesn't heal you it just leads to more pain i think it's saying it's bad however it is complicated as Norah believes Joel got what he deserved she can't unsee the violent act though but deep down probably believes what she did is right norah escapes just like the games after riing Ellie up i love the chase in the game as it's frantic and really intense we also have people shooting at you from balconies which is present as you run through the corridors it's done really well here but the
game's interactivity takes it to the next level you chase and use Norah as a shield against the gods before falling into the basement i love in the game where you can then lure the clickers to fight the WLF they're obviously aware of the spores and have gas masks so I'm more than willing to follow you here we see Norah realize just how screwed she is though as she checks the basement level signage she either gets shot by Ellie or risks the spores downstairs in the basement this part in the game I really enjoy well I
didn't enjoy cuz it was [ __ ] me pants but it allowed you to explore more of the wretched mess of the basement ellie goes down and sees the growth of the cordiceps it's had a very very long time to evolve and has basically been filling the air since the beginning doctors had no idea what was going on and were left battling the infected unaware on top that the apocalypse was starting it was also kind of really um at the right time well not at the right time but you know the game came out in
the middle of the pandemic and that was kind of when doctors were battling an unknown virus and you were kind of playing through that in the game as well i'm sure we all heard the horror stories from the wards at the time and I remember playing through this game and seeing the aftermath of that and being like it's a bit bit creepy the Z design is stunning though as Ellie walks through the area it reminds me a lot of the flood from Halo most specifically the floodgate level from the game where the environment was changed
also got a lot of vibes of the upside down and Stranger Things seeing those guys stuck to the wall as well and just knowing how long they'd been there like the first one she comes across as green hospital clothing so he's been there since 2003 we also have Leon there too who's still breathing spores into the air you'd often come across infected crying in a corner and apparently was an agonizing way to go the fungus would take over your brain and then slowly eat into it so you'd lose your memories it would manipulate you to
hit the thumbs up and emotionally you just lose who you are you'd become the parasite their infected would sometimes even attach themselves to the wall and jump out at you which was terrifying if you're playing at like 1:00 a.m with headphones on we also mentioned earlier how the spores were missing from season 1 i'm so glad they saved them for this section though as it gives it much more impact i was surprised though that they didn't tease something else down here players of the game will will know exactly what I mean um I want you
explorers Ellie you can hear something moving we then see Ellie go and turn on the power i also wonder if it's because a certain person hasn't been here yet but no Abby spoilers no Abby spoilers they turn it on at one point in their section so we'll we'll see if that happens i really love seeing Ellie walk up to Nora though as she said she's killed them both we know Ally is immune but Nora doesn't however she does say that there's spores hanrahan said at the start this was top secret and thus maybe the medical
staff were alerted norah then realizes that she's the miracle child norah mentioned in episode one how she'd heard Jolola took some kid it got shut down but there was definitely rumors that there was the possibility of a cure norah said how it doesn't matter anyway though as Aby's dad's dead and was the only one who could possibly create it in the show I feel like they kind of hammered home that the impact of what Joel did was much more severe he's doomed humanity but I always felt it was kind of up in the air about
whether the cure could in fact be made i've seen some people who worked on the project saying that it would have definitely worked but I did feel like there's that element of doubt cuz the fireflies are idiots or maybe that's just my way of coping with what Joel did and Norah's death is up in the air as well eh spores get it anyway Ellie seems to be relishing the moment game ellie had far more of an angry side whereas for the show Ellie seems far more sadistic we saw her cut an infected trapped person in
season 1 and the podcast has spoke about how she actually likes the violence and is in some ways activated by it i even wonder if she had have had time whether she would have even have tortured Leyon or perhaps the nurse here however she has one single goal in mind get Nora and learn where Abby is now sadly I feel like Bella Ramsey does kind of fall flat in moments like this i know she's getting piled on but it's difficult to avoid these criticisms when you've seen this scene already done a lot better i thought
she was fantastic as young Ellie but the older version requires something else she's just been beaten down by the world completely torn apart by it whereas I don't fully get that feeling from Bella's performance i know the creative team have supported her they've said "This is our Ellie." But I think if we'd had a a recasting even mid-season like House of the Dragon then I don't think anyone would have really minded like in House of the Dragon they even had those actors return in season 2 and I would have loved had someone else been in
and then boom end this episode joel walks in Ellie's in bed with a back turn and then turns around and hey it's Bella instead i don't know i think Dena Nora and so on they're selling it whereas I don't necessarily feel she is but look we'll see how this goes i just know this is one of the big big moments of the series and it it probably is difficult to sell but comparing it to how impactful it was in the game I just feel it fell flat i Your breathing spores were worse you're her you're
her where's Abby where's Abby now what this scene does is become a brutal mirror of Aby's killing of Joel she said how you don't get to rush this and Ally offers a fast or slow approach she also picks up a pipe which mirrors the golf club you really get this hammered home more in the game as even some of the angles were the same she can let Nora out of her suffering or live with the grim fate that happened with Leon she even looks at the pipe like Abby did to the infamous golf clubs now
in the game we get an amazing jump cut with Ellie it's almost like you've blacked out and kind of just fill in what happened with your mind for the show though we cut to similar times and catch Ellie in the room she walked by in episode two it's a really nice juosition in which we go from anger and brutality to innocence on the wall we can also see a poster for Weez's Pinkerton you might also notice sketches of eyes as well and what looks like moths moths were featured prominently in the game and are on
the frets of Ellie's guitar and our t-shirts the double-sided ones the first game had Ellie looking for the light of the fireflies while the second had the moth he's also looking for light in the darkness just like how moths seek out light Ellie needs to see the light that this revenge tour is only going to bring more pain and suffering it also looks like she has a Walkman on her bedside table which she had back in Boston the waking up is also just like Sarah waking up in episode 1 this is where she lived out
with Joel before moving into the garage that show they were growing distant whereas Joel here says "Hey kiddo." This is also what he called Dena and it's what the character constantly called Ellie in the game it then closes out what I thought was another solid episode i think since hitting Seattle things have been really strong and even though I didn't think Bella sold the thing she needed to quite to the level that she did I thought she was still you know quite good in the entry and I really enjoy the episode as for next week
though I'm guessing that will basically do the flashbacks from the game there they were spread throughout but I can imagine it being combined into one episode i'm guessing we learn what happened with Eugene as well so yeah lots of things to look forward to probably lots of questions answered and that takes us into the Paul spoils you when you go beyond the spoiler verse you don't want anything ruined though yeah you or you haven't played the game cuz you got life then uh hit the thumbs up and [ __ ] off bloody do one anyway
thanks for staying and the first big thing I want to talk about is the ambulance and also the mention of the rats this is potentially teasing the rat king who's a big boss your fight as Abby going in to get medical supplies she hears something down there but they have skipped big sections before so who knows abby would obviously you know have to know of the spores she'd have to get a gas mask so maybe they aren't going to do that which I think would be a shame cuz like when I think of terrible nightmare
fueled stuff Rat King comes to mind either way Abby then finds medical supplies in the back of an ambulance which is when she's grabbed by the creature this is a combination of several people who've morphed into this giant hulking monster like I never look forward to replaying that section i also brought up the band boxes earlier and Abby ends up tracking them to the theater this is because Ellie leaves behind a map when killing some of Aby's group to Jesse following them through that it kind of foreshadows how Abby might do the same thing dena
ignoring her mother and the council and so on i mentioned how that earlier came with a cost here it leads to the death of Jesse who's of course the father of her child they also discuss what Dena was going to name the kid and in the end they call him JJ this is after Jesse and Joel which is quite a touching moment as for the PSP girl I do think it's a shame they didn't have a or something like her you end up seeing her again as Abby and it just kind of paints out the
different perspectives the hanging scene in the forest is also of course a flip on the Abbeby section as there something similar happens this is where she meets Yara and Lev and it's another massive section of the forest nor also gives up Aby's location but in the end this leads to nothing i feel like the season will end right before their showdown right at the moment she kills Jesse as for next week I think it's Joel and Ellie flashbacks i think predominantly that'll be about her learning the fate of the Fireflies and also what happened with
Eugene i feel like we'll also get that porch scene as well in which Ellie will say she wants to work on it either way that's the end of the episode and I'd of course love to hear your thoughts please drop a like on the video and leave a comment as well did you know that members of the channel you also get early access to videos if you click the join button you'll get at least one breakdown a week a week before anyone else cost just 99 cents a month and we've tried to set it where
