hey guys today I'm working on a 2008 uh Toyota Corolla doing the front brakes um I'm just going to do one side and show you what it looks like um it'll be the S very same exact thing on the other side to do uh this will be the same for 2008 through 2013 Corollas uh this is what you'll need here a hammer um in case you need to uh persuade the old rotor to come off the knuckle sometimes they get rusted and you take them off uh this here is a caliper compressor to squeeze the
Piston back into the caliper so you can get the new pads in this little bolt here is actually uh to uh assist you in getting the old rotor off I'll show you how to use that a little bit later uh flathead screwdriver to get the uh wheel cover off as you can see I have it over there um you need a 19 mm socket for the caliper bracket and a 21 mm socket for the lug nuts um I have a 12 mm um socket there for this um nut here 14 mm is right here to
help you get the uh caliper bolts off and the breaker bar is used to you know get the lug nuts off and also to break the uh caliper caliper bracket off so I've already got stuff loosened up so I'll just show you what you need to take off and wear um back here here we have the uh 14 mm nut you want there's two of those there's one here and there's one here in the bottom just go ahead and pull those off I've already loosened them up so I'll just take them off my hand now
and you can just pull the caliper away you see the Piston is here I usually just I usually just go on ahead and uh hang the hang the caliper up here for now right on the strut there it's fine you don't want to leave it hanging cuz you will damage the rubber brake line um so you can go ahead and pull out the uh the pads now just do that by hand sometimes they're a little stubborn pretty easy to get out though then you'll see back here we have a let me see if I can
get a light back here you'll have the 19 mm bolt there there's also another one on the top right here sorry you can see right there um I've already loosened these up sometimes these are hard to get to I find it easy sometimes if you turn the key on turn the wheel all the way to the left or the right depending what side you're working on I'm on the left side so I turn the wheel to the left all the way it's easy to get a breaker bar right in here like so and you can
get all the leverage you need to to break the bolt loose and take this uh this bolts off to get the uh caliper bracket off another one go ahead and pull the caliper bracket away you just set set it down here it's fine there so here's where the nut comes in that helps you take this old rotor off sometimes they're willing to come off sometimes you can hit them with the hammer here in the back they'll just you know they'll finally come off but here Toyota has a slot here and a slot down here to
stick a uh normal 12 mm bolt in here you can stick it in here and screw it start start it in there by hand then I just take my ratchet and um and tighten it up and that will force the rotor off off of the knuckle as you can see it's starting to come away there and there it is you just pull the old rotor off there's old rotor there you can take this back out by hand know it's always helpful to have random you know nuts or bolts around you never know when you might
need them this one I only really use for these type of rotors so it's good to have and it's cheap probably 20 cents or something I'll go and get the other rotor now give me a second here I'm going go ahead and stick the new rotor [Music] on like so there you have that let me see if I can get a better camera angle for you guys here hold on okay there there you go should be able to see me I got the new rotor on here let's take that on you go ahead and stick
the calar bracket back on actually beforehand I've already done so as you could see here there's these pin these pins the sliding pins that come in and out of the out of the caliper bracket you can go ahead and just pull these out all the way I'm not going to do so now cuz I've already done it pull them out all the way there will be grease in there wipe off all the old grease and put on some new multi-purpose grease it's like red you want to make sure you do that to both these to
make sure that these both function how they're supposed to sometimes if you don't do that you'll have in the instance where one pad the inside or outside pad will wear a lot faster than the uh uh than the other side of the pad so make sure you do that okay got that all back on go ahead and tighten those back up again using the 19 mm bolt or 17 mm bolt I'm sorry nut you just tighten those back up go ahead and get the new pads some kits come with the new brake wear indicators however
some brake pads do not you don't need to transfer them over so this one is the old one here I pulled this just pull it straight off top here and then you'll take this and just click it right back down onto your uh to your new set of pads like so okay now I'll show you how to use the uh use the brake pad compressor the old disc compressor you stick the old pad in here like this take the compressor stick it in here like so yeah take and turn this and it'll just gradually push
the Piston back into the caliper do that until it's all the way back in and that way you can get this over your new pads easily take this out put the new pads in like so the other a pad goes in like so you just take your new caliper put it back over take the 14 mm bolts they go right back in the back what I'm talking about here those bolts go right back in here and in here and then also the caliper bracket bolts those are right there and the other one is on the
bottom so you can just go ahead I'm going to tighten these just by hand here I'm going ahead and tighten these up with my ratchet here and there you have it um like I said this is for a 2008 through 2013 Corolla front brake pads and rotors um should take you no more than an hour to do both um you know if it takes you longer than that that's fine a lot of people like to take their time make sure they're doing it right and there's nothing wrong with that it's better to do it right
slow then rush through it and make a mistake so um make sure before you turn your car on to um pump your brake pedal a few times to make sure the firmness comes back before you start your car after that and go out for a uh Breakin period I like to just go out and get the car up to 40 m an hour and just get hard on the brakes a few times just to heat them up and um after that everything should be good all right uh thanks again for watching and uh you guys
have a good day please feel free to subscribe and also uh share the video if you can thanks again bye
