Microsoft CEO SAA Nadella says that business applications and software as we know it won't exist in the era of AI agents the notion that business applications exist that's probably where they'll all collapse right in the agent ERA this is a pretty bold statement coming from the CEO of one of the largest software makers in the world he even goes as far as to say that Excel historically Microsoft's huge Money Maker doesn't really have a purpose anymore hey why do I need Excel bring up co-pilot this is like a data analyst who is using Excel as
a sort of row column visualization to do analysis scratchback but if you're someone with a great idea thinking of starting a business does this mean that you should throw the towel in is is this the death of sass before you do that there's a lot of nuance here that click baity headlines and popular AI YouTubers are glossing over before we declare the death of SAS by the way if you're new here I'm Chad I've been working as a software engineer and systems architect for over 15 years and in that time I've seen a lot of
fads come and go and to be clear Ai and the revolution happening right now in the software industry and knowledge work in general is not a fad it is changing everything about how we live work and relate to each other they are essentially crud databases with a bunch of business logic specifically Satya talks about crud applications applications that focus on creating reading updating and deleting and while most Enterprise soft Ware applications are of this nature it's a little disingenuous to focus on that and then say it's the death of all software yes that kind of
software the kind of software that is just basically business logic over a database that kind of software won't exist much longer and largely I think that's a good thing if you've ever worked for a large company and been forced to use the software that that makes the business run it's uh they're they're usually not developed very well they don't Focus on user experience they don't focus on things that make people want to use them but claiming AI agents will solve all of these problems oversimplifies the matter that business logic still has to exist it has
to exist somewhere one way to think about this is like the way our brains work when we go to ride a bike we don't think about all the things we're doing while we're riding the bike we have code in our muscle memory that encodes how to ride that bike we don't think about how to balance ourselves or do any of that we feel it it becomes part of our habit circuitry it's the same kind of thing with AI that habit circuitry still needs to exist you don't want the AI thinking through how to talk to
the database and enforce business rules that if you update this field then this field over here has to also update to reflect a calculation that happens somewhere you want that to happen automatically you want to have code that does that and that kind of code is is simple to write it's very easy to build business logic like that again an AI can write this code but that code is still going to exist somebody still has to develop that and maintain it and believe it or not getting this kind of logic right is very difficult it
takes a lot of thinking through problems and issues stuff that happens outside the world of code to get this kind of stuff right yes now we can have the ability to program machines with English language but you still have to be able to think logically through the processes and problems you're trying to solve to be able to even get to the point where you have code that you're trying to write to enforce this business logic that thinking is not going to go away even if you have an AI helping you think through that you as
a human still have to know the problem you're trying to solve and know how you want to solve it I think a better way to think about all this is that human level thinking raises up a level we don't have to be thinking about the Nuance of exact what variables we need to create to implement what business logic instead we're going to be thinking about the overall processes and we'll have AIS that help us think through this but we are the ones still doing the thinking all that being said especially with the release of open
AI 03 model coming in 2025 AGI is is here on the horizon and we are approaching a world where there will be a dramatic reduction in the amount of people we need in the workforce that doesn't mean though that people won't be working it means that people will get to work on the things that they want to work on things that they care about and again if you've ever wanted to start a business if you've ever had an idea that you wanted to see come into reality now is the time to do it you shouldn't
listen to the Microsoft CEO talking about the death of SAS and think that there's nothing left for you to do it's an evolution it's not death in the sense that it won't exist anymore it's death in the sense of rebirth we are going to be creating new and different kinds of software software agents instead of building a user interface that does all the things that traditional software does you build an agent an agent that embodies a process you're still solving problems you're just doing it at a higher level now is the time to figure out
exactly what it is you want to create in the world and do it thanks for watching until the end this will be my last video of the year I have a couple I'm working on one on Quantum Ai and the other on utopian philosophy in the context of the AI Revolution and if you're into that kind of thing the intersection of technology and Human Nature and how all of this impacts societal and individual transformation then uh think about subscribing so you don't miss those videos but until then I'll catch you on the other side
