we have all been there sending application after application researching recruitment agencies researching Cruise Lines only to get another rejection letter hey Sailors welcome back to Cru crew today we are going to talk about rejection but not from a boyfriend or a girl friend we're going to talk about rejection from a job application most of you watch my channel because you want to work on cruise ships which is amazing but unfortunately you're probably gonna get rejected like not everyone but some of you are and that's okay so in this video I wanted to just do a
little pep talk for when you get that rejection letter so firstly let's talk about the application process because I'm not going to beat around the bush applying I mean applying for jobs in general is pretty tedious applying for cruise ship jobs and recruitment agencies I mean it can be lengthy like these application processes are not fast and then even when you apply you have to wait ages for a response and then if you get a response you may have an interview but then you have to wait ages for the response from the interview usually so
it's a really lengthy process there's also a lot of research involved I mean yes there's recruitment agencies but what country do they hire people from and what cruise lines does that recruitment agency work for you know if you want a job on Carnival Cruise Line well firstly you need to find out which crew which recruitment agency works with Carnival you know you might end up going with a recruitment agency and then down the line you find out that that recruitment agency doesn't even work for Carnival so if you have been putting in all of this
effort you've got to the interview process hopefully and then you've got rejected or maybe you've just got rejected on your CV alone it just makes you think like what is the point what am I doing this for because also a lot of the times you get these rejection emails sorry like your application hasn't gone through or sorry you didn't make it through the interview process but they don't actually tell you what you did because they simply don't have time I mean my God if they had to you know tell everyone why they didn't get through
the interview process well I mean it it would be an even slower process for everyone so I'm not saying that that should be how it's done but it is frustrating that you don't get any feedback you just get told no you didn't get the job and then you're like well I don't even know why was it because I'm not up to scratch or was I actually good for the job but there was just someone who like pipped me to the Post because they've got more experience I want to help you reframe rejection because like everything
in life it is all about mindset it's all about how you look at things you can either look at things glass half full or glass half empty and I know when you get rejected the last thing you want to do is look at it glass half full you know you're not going to be like I'm so happy I got rejected from the job that I really wanted I'm not I'm not saying that you need to do that that would be ridiculous what I'm saying is that rejection email isn't the end it is simply part of
the process if we gave up after the first try I mean very few of us would have the job that we wanted you know JK Rowling the author of Harry Potter probably one of the most celebrated authors there are today before Harry Potter she was rejected from 12 Publishers Walt Disney was fired from a newspaper when he was younger because he wasn't creative enough my point is it's just important not to take these rejections personally because they're not like it's not a reflection of you being bad maybe there was someone else interviewing for the job
who on paper was better because they had more experience maybe they'd worked on cruise ships before or maybe God the universe whatever you believe leaving just has a different plan for you if you went with that recruitment agency you would end up on this cruise ship but actually you're meant to end up on a cruise ship that is going to be so much better for you and the destinations are going to be better but can you imagine if JK Rowling had taken those 12 rejections personally and thought well I'm obviously at writing I'll just stop
and do something else my point is you have to keep trying Walt Disney kept trying JK Rowling kept trying you might be thinking well Lucy I haven't been rejected once I've been rejected 10 times now and then I had just spent five or so years just applying for cruise ships trying to get a job and everything it was difficult but I ended up eventually being able to get a job it's just part of the process and I promise you it's going to make your success story so much more interesting can you imagine if like Oprah
Winfrey was like oh yeah I just everything was easy and I got the first job I went for okay great we all have days where we want to give up all of us even me everyone we all have days where we're like what am I doing so it is okay to feel frustrated to feel demotivated to want to give up maybe you just want to take a few days off where you don't apply for any jobs for a few days and you just stop thinking about cruise ships and sometimes taking a few days off can
really refresh you as long as you come back to it because I promise you if you keep trying you are going to get the job that you want so I've got some things that I want you to do that I believe are going to help you stay motivated the first thing is reframe your idea of success because I presume at the moment you're like well success is getting the job duh but what if success was applying for the job what if success was doing the interview because let's be honest the more you do something the
less intimidating it is you were going to be a lot less nervous for your 30th interview than you were in your first interview right the fact that you are making the effort to do all the research to fill in all the application forms to do the interviews these are successes as well just because the end result isn't what you wanted it doesn't mean you should negate everything else because that's when it all becomes tedious and that's when we get burnt out because it feels like we're doing so much work for no reward so I think
the best thing to do is change the reward change what success means so if you say to yourself okay if I apply for five agencies or five cruise ship jobs today I am going to take myself out for dinner and celebrate those little wins or when I've done five interviews no matter what the outcome of those interviews I will treat myself and what I also believe this does is it actually makes you less nervous for the interview if you've put all of this pressure on yourself going into the interview that like I need this I
need need this job I have to get this job you're going to come across desperate like you are desperation is the strongest smell in the universe and the recruiter can sense this even through a screen even through a zoom call right whereas if your version of success is just doing five interviews doesn't matter what the outcome is just the fact that you are showing up for this interview is a success in itself and you just having a reduced amount of nerves going into the interview will actually make you interview better and you're more likely to
get the job so I really I really do think the key here a lot of the time is just to put less pressure on yourself and reframe what success is so what I want you to do now is set a goal for yourself like okay if I apply for one job a day or 10 jobs this month or if I do three interviews this month that's a win and how are you going to reward yourself if you do those things because as I said I really do believe the reason why applying and you know getting
a job on a cruise ship is just so crap is because the only time we celebrate ourselves is if we get the job and you might have to go through a lot of rejection before you get the job offer you want so it is really important that you celebrate the application process and celebrate the interview process but POS istence really is key here you've just got to keep trying so persistence is key in this case right definitely definitely I received so many um rejection letters and everything but you just have to keep trying because if
you know this is for you you just carry on and it will eventually work out in the end the truth is you could face 700 rejections but every rejection is bringing you closer to that yes but thank you so much for watching guys I really hope this video has reignited that motivation to to get the job that you want everyone faces rejection okay everyone there is so many people that email me on a daily basis I've been applying for five years I've been applying for a year I've you know been rejected five times it's normal
