[Music] hi guys today I'm going to tell you the story of two teams of students who competed against each other last year we asked them to put a game on the market for Christmas but before we dive into the story I'm going to ask you to pick a team to support at ROM and we'll see how lucky you are it's like throwing a dice you can choose between the speed Runners team and the Disco elium team now here's the story it's early November the speed Runners team has really drive and can't wait to get their
game on the market they have already made great progress their game is easy to understand they know this because Sonic's cousin has hand to the rules and the design is amazing it was inspired by back flip Madness the Disco elium team plays it safe the game seems to be easy without being too simplistic but um Mr thinker is unsure about some of the rules the design has been done by a graphic artist who loves video games but doesn't have much experience and Mr sensei I is concerned about some of the feedback the game looks fun
but the team may be suffering from the Ika effect you know placing more value on something you've made yourself basically they don't feel ready to develop the game just yet so what do you think they will do well the speedr runners team is confident and they hand their game straight over to the developers there's no time to waste the Disco elium team runs some user test which is crazy given the timing what's your opinion anyway they get together to list their assumptions doubts and the most important questions to ask together they come up with various
questions and observations then they recruit 10 players from their target audience each one will test the prototype for one hour the Disco alion team divide into groups to observe the players and ask questions to them everyone takes notes gets involved and things move fast and you know what they get a big surprise some of the rules they thought were simple turn out to be complex for first time players everyone thinks the design is cool but after talking to the testers it's clear that some improvements could be made in terms of fun it's all good all
the testers enjoy it and want to play again the team meets again to brainstorm and decides on an action plan everyone shares their notes on a large whiteboard they design the user journey together for each stage of the journey the data is grouped by theme and TCT sticky points and idas for improvement are prioritized using a matrix based on what is most important for users and what is easiest and quickest for the technical team to implement they looked at what users actually said to make sure they really address the different issues a few weeks before
Christmas the graphic designer quickly includes the recommendations which he understands perfectly because he was involved in the testing process the developers also work fast because they took part in the test and brainstorming sessions and they are happy knowing that they are developing something people want and that they won't be asked to scrap it and start again in a few weeks time meanwhile the speed Runners post that they have already finished they think the Disco Elum team is very slow Christmas arrives what do you think happen next the speedr runners game is brought to Market a
few days ahead of schedule the result it's easy to understand but only by 3% of the population like like velocity Rex game or cin the design is great but user don't know how to use some of the interacting objects most of all the game is not that fun there's something missing a hook a plot something it soon get rejected on social media and it will cost a lot of money to develop it again the Disco alium game is delivered just in time and it's a heat the PO St improvements really help to make it a
game that's easy to understand easy to set up and engaging once more the testers have been talking about it on social media and world of MOA spread so which team did you choose at the start and now that you've heard the story which team would you rather work with [Music]
