I came across this report the other day that was talking about Young Americans leaving Florida because retirees are moving there which is driving up the cost of living like crazy the report stated something like although Florida is one of the fastest growing states in the US more than 500,000 Young Americans between the ages of 20 and 30 moved away because they can't survive out there check out the report well Florida has been one of the fastest growing States more than 22 million people live here now that's third behind California and Texas yeah but lately a
lot of young people are leaving our state that's according to a new study Fox 13's kayy Tracy is here to tell us why good morning good morning that report coming from the Florida chamber of commerce and it says one of the biggest reasons 20 to 29 year olds are leaving is because of housing affordability and according to the report nearly 637 th000 people moved to Florida from other states in 2023 with people 60 and older as the biggest age group moving here but more than half a million left that's the most Florida has ever seen
in the second most in the country last year behind California we've also seen people of all ages pack up and move out of the sunshine state after back-to-back storms this year some say they love Florida but they do understand why some people are leaving so that report got me thinking Florida lza might be a great alternative for Young Americans that are looking to live in a coastal city with not only a lower cost of living but also that isn't too far from home today's video I'm going to share with you some reasons why you might
want to consider foraa but today's video is geared more towards remote workers people that have jobs online that allow them to work from anywhere around the world for starters they got Direct flights coming out of Florida takes about 6 and 1/2 hours from Miami 7 and 1/2 hours from Orlando and I just checked out some flights and roundtrip tickets are around 500 USD and the flight that I checked out was in late February which is during Carnival season which is kind of considered high season in Brazil before you had to fly down to S Pao
Rio or Brazilia to get a connecting flight to come up to for of lasa so the proximity is pretty convenient in case anything happens back home you can just hop on a flight get there really quick actually just checked out a flight for tomorrow like an emergency flight to see how much it would cost and that was also less than 500 bucks I'm walking around the stage right now to get over to the bedmar look how big that thing is and like always here in FLA laa perfect weather got people out here on the beach
hanging out by the way this is where the New Year's Eve celebration is going to take place there's going to be over a million people along this beach bringing into 2025 look at that big old tent right there looks like there's going to be a stage backstage they're probably going to throw a party during the party and then an after party and probably an Afterparty for the Afterparty all right so you're working online let's say you're teaching English or you're a virtual assistant or you're a social media manager whatever the case may be let's say
you're bringing in 20 bucks an hour working full-time 40 hour weeks so before taxes that's 3200 bucks a month so after tax tax depending on your you know tax bracket or rate I assume that's like 2500 USD just so you guys have an idea how much 2500 USD at today's exchange rate basically it's 6 to1 so 2500 USD is roughly 15,000 Brazilian RIS and to put that into perspective the average salary here in foraa is around 2,000 or 2,500 Ray eyes so basically what that means is you're going to be earning roughly six times with
the average in income is here which is a lot of money and some good living don't go anywhere cuz I'm going to give you guys some more examples that place right there is getting really popular they got some good happy hour deals they also have like an all you can eat appetizer buffet for around 90 Brazilian appetizers and drinks included also all the costs in today's video will be in Brazilian currency since I use 15,000 as the budget and the reference so keep that in mind all right let's talk about housing you're looking to pay
for a place starting at around 4,500 Brazilian R and that might seem like a lot you might be thinking I could go to Southeast Asia and pay a third of that price you could but southeast Asia is on the other side of the planet here we're just a hop skip and the jump away from Miami and also here the apartments aren't shoe boxes you're going to get an either one or two bedroom furnish modern apartment here along the beach with a bunch of amenities like a swimming pool like a gym like a a sauna like
a party area a place where you can have barbecues 24-hour security a parking spot and a bunch of other stuff that I can't even remember right now for example in the US a place along the beach you're getting an empty apartment and there's no way you're going to pay 4500 Ray eyes which is what 750 USD at today's exchange rate you're going to pay at the very very least and I could be mistaken let me know in the comments I'd say 3,000 USD not only are all the amenities included but all the utility bills are
included the condo Bill the gas bill the trash bill the water bill the property tax because here in Brazil homeowners throw the property tax on whoever's renting high-speed internet the only thing that you pay extra is the energy bail for example that building has a place in that building the apartment that I checked out for a client was a three-bedroom apartment two bath furnished gym swimming pool sauna it also had one of those 24-hour auto checkout stores basically all these apartments have not even it's on the same block as the Beach come on you're not
going to find a place like that in Miami for 750 obviously prices do go up over there super expensive you're looking to pay I'd say 15,000 R but like I said it's ginormous apartment per floor basically ultimate privacy but that's even affordable if you're making some cash all right so we got housing out of the way we know you're going to pay 4,500 Brazilian less than a third of your income all that included so let's talk about groceries for the house personal hygiene products and cleaning products for the crib for one person that's going to
run you 1,250 Ray eyes but that's still a lot especially if you're going out to eat which is going to be our next expense dining out going out to eat so let's say you want to test out a new restaurant every single day of the month or at least 25 days out of the month and you don't want to be pay any pension you want to go to pretty nice place get some drinks has live music bring a date with you that's going to run you anywhere from 2,500 AIS up to 4,000 or 4,500 AI
but it's totally doable for a lot less obviously they do have those really affordable Brazilian meals that cost around 3 to four bucks where you get a big old plate of Brazilian food even with a drink around 5 USD you can definitely find those even around here around the betaar so where does that leave us ,500 left something that I forgot to mention earlier about accommodations just to do a comparison so my brother he lives out in San Diego and his rent for an empty apartment that is not furnished is $2,000 and he's an hour
away from the nearest beach and his bills are not included although his apartment complex does have some amenities like a pool and a gym and a barbecue area it's still 2,000 USD not to say that my brother and my family aren't happy in San Diego because San Diego is amazing but you got to pretty much be rich to live out there and I think the situation is pretty much the same in many cities in Florida that's why I'm making today's video for those saying that they can live cheaper than what I'm showing in today's video
sure you can like I said it is possible but show me where you're staying and we can compare it to the examples in today's video and you can see that there's a significant difference in quality of life and I think that's something that's worth considering when you're comparing budgets so we got 6,500 Ry eyes left on our budget the next budget is transportation well if you're living around here along the beach this neighborhood back here is meris there's a lot of stuff around here that's within walking distance so the betaar tons of restaurants tons of
Street vendors bunch of activities you can do all within walking distance up on the Avenue over there they got like three or four grocery stores they got pharmacies they got a mall that's also within walking distance they got hospitals they got a bunch of stuff but let's put Transportation at around a thousand Ray eyes say you you know Tak an Uber to dinner over to Vara from Med varal it's not even two bucks or 250 to get there let's say you go to to futuru that's going to cost you about 4 bucks there 4 bucks
back let's say you go to puku which is a Beach town that way it's an hour and a half away actually it's an hour away that's going to cost you what like 12 bucks tops so now we're at 5,500 so our next expense is going to be an important expense that is health insurance or travel insurance I recommend you guys get that because although it is free to even foreigners here in Brazil I do recommend you guys get travel insurance and I've seen some rates as low as 500 resuming R I've seen cheaper also but
it all depends on what country you're going to and your age the next expense is also an important expense and that's the digital Nomad Visa because if you're making 2,500 USD a month you're qualified there is a fee and it's around 1,700 Brazilian ryi so that averages out monthly to about 150 rayis a month unless you just want to come down and visit on a tourist visa you actually don't have to pay for a tourist visa beforehand if you're coming from the US you're going to be given 3 months upon arrival with the option to
extend for another 3 months and there is a small fee it's around 150 Ray eyes but you can only stay in Brazil for a total of 180 days a year which is still enough time to fill it out see if it's your thing one second guys I'm going to take a quick break I'll be right back the video's not over so I kind of lost track of our budget I believe we're around 4500 Brazilian which is still double the average income but that's still plenty of money to do do everything else like going out going
out on dates taking trips to other beaches outside of Fort AA taking care of your hygiene yeah dental work that's a good one to cover as long as you're brushing your teeth every day you're not going to need to get your teeth cleaned or teeth whitening every single month but if you do go they do have package deals for around 600 Ray eyes so that averages around let's say if you go once a year to get your teeth whitened and every 3 to 6 months to get your teeth cleaned it's going to average around 50
Ray eyes a month if that it's starting to really pick up around here oh nice they just turned on the lights it's around 6:00 p.m. right now the sun went down about a half hour ago I just thought of some other expenses let's say you want to get your place clean you got an apartment around here that's around 700 Square ft you're looking to pay like a 100 RIS a cleaning so if you do that four times a month you're going to spend 400 Ray eyes uh for subscriptions like for Spotify Netflix Disney HBO Max
I got all four of those and I'm spending around 100 RI a month because subscriptions here in Brazil are a lot more affordable than the US and then data for your phone they got contracts that start at around 30 rayis up to 150 R which is basically unlimited data on your phone but I don't think you're going to need the most expensive on since you're going to have Wi-Fi at your place most of the buildings throughout the building also have Wi-Fi and even many places here along the beach and parks around town they got Wi-Fi
but it is good to have some data on your phone all right guys I got my notes here I'm kind of losing track but I think I'm going to wrap it up so if you're a young American or an American doesn't matter if you're young or old especially if you got a remote job and you're suffering because of the High Cost of Living back in the US for lasa is definitely a good alternative with affordable cost of living modern amenities like I spoke about today tons of beautiful beaches and a welcoming atmosphere I think it's
the ideal destination for remote work looking for a change of pace not only is it close to home and the flights are relatively affordable if you're earning in dollars you're going to get a lot of bang for your buck so you're going to be able to live here comfortably while enjoying everything that foraa has to offer I think she forgot I don't know there she comes I thought she forgot my drink but he got it's just a basic little sprite sugarfree all right guys I'm going to wrap it up I think I went over everything
