thank you madam speaker for allowing me this opportunity to make my maen spee the constituency that i represent northwest cambridg is a relatively new one having been created in 1997 and i'm only second member of parliament but the area that the constituency covers has a long and distinguished history and many eminent people have left their footprints in it soil myate predessor is briwi recently noed and now lord is a formidable politian he was diligent conscientious hardwing and always put the interests of his constients first he was also fortunate and privileged to serve in high office
including secretary of state for transport and chair of the conservative party ite all the pressures that high off brings he always found time for his cons i'm quite sure that lord will continue to be involved in local affairs particularly as his title now is lord of petb when he was a member of parliament one of lord's passions was toort the local foall team aff known as the as is now chairman of the foball league ipect that on some satursast he will be found on the teres of some other fos pri to 1997 some0% of my
constituency was part of the for huntingon constiency where the member of parliament was the former prime minister john maj john and toally and also remain involved in a number of local concerns particularly charitable interests andaring in mind john's love for cricket you will not be surprised if i say that on the odd saturday he to can be found at a local cricket match and nor has herself an annual charity match in support charity cricket match in support of but i also have ad for member of parliament my constiency and that is lord rent in this
house will be aware that i don't exaggerate when i say that he is one of the most charming men in the palace of westminster soon to be 97 and still active in another place he is the president of the association of conservative pe i am grateful for all the kindnesses and supportown to me by all prevers but i have to say madad speaker that it is us for a new member to have one former member of parliament looking over his shoulder to see what he is and perhaps sometimes is not doing occasionally there may be
two former members but i think you will agree it is rare to have three for members of parliament looking over one shoulder and such an eminent trio at that to as far as my constiency is concerned it covers the southern part of peterbough south of the river and then some villages and market towns which go down to but not including huntingd in the pbough area it is characterized by the rapid expansion that is happening there are a number of people there who commute regularly to nearby places and the expansion is bestpied when i say are
where thousand will of to ensure that the houseilding is matched bypriateastuure m south in the constiency there areures villes such hamon which has 30 houses to otheres such y and ram which and one particular concern for my local farmers is the proposed reduction in europe qu for sugarat and i for one will be very viorously taking up their interests whever it is necess i wasate the and i b concerning breast cancerreening for women at present women between the ages of 50 to 70 their loalit invting them for but i prop to try inc that so
that cen 4 long and lives and toovering a high group and of course we all know that women below 50 suffer from breast cancer as do women over the age of 50 i would have thought that prevention is better than cure and let us not forget madam deputy speaker that we are notly talking about the women who from bre canc we are also talking about theirili their friends which covers a he number of people and i very much hope that the government will give my members bill some consideration many years ago mad speaker i remember
watching television with my parents and i remember watching prim and i said to my par i that one ch for this bn indian brit first member of par a dream has certainly come and i'm particularly pleased that today my parents are not watching at the other side of telisionreen but instead are in the public gallery par you can look the other of there can be no better privile for anyone than to represent their fellow cizens in this the mother of par and i deeply grateful to the people of northwest cambrid for affording me the opportity
