There's no military in Palau. US has the responsibility to protect Palau in case of any attack. I'll also tell you an interesting fact about Palau so its the most over governed place in the world hence the government or leaders employed is more than needed here.
But we can't see even a single person except us. We've seen the entire country since morning in this car. We've not left a place.
We aren't able to find the waterfall which is their main spot. We saw a house here & have entered with the car. Look, we're going right inside & there's no one here too or else it would've been chaotic by now.
Women here dominate the society more. The kinship and surname is carried forward through a women. Grapes are 1000 INR ($12.
10) per kg here. Yes, so welcome to a new video from a new country & new part of the world. I am in Palau.
If you've seen my previous videos, then you would know that Palau is a country in the Pacific Ocean and lies in Micronesia in the continent of Oceania towards the east of Philippines. Since you've seen the last video, you would've an idea of the geography. Anyways, we came to Palau yesterday and its our second day today.
Navankur. . .
who's travelling with me is taking out the car & we'll go to a waterfall nearby. Its 11:30 am! We woke up early but we had to pay the apartment owner which is why we got late.
Then we even talked for long. It's quite sunny and hot here. We're in Koror right now which is their most .
. . open it.
which is their most populous city and used to be their capital before. Now their capital has been shifted to their big island but most of the things still lie in Koror. Right now we're going to.
. . a guy from Switzerland is here, who's also a blogger.
. We connected with him on Instagram. Very few people come here & you might not have heard of this country.
Even I didn't knew some time back. Only those people come here who either wish to travel the entire world or those who wish to explore the unexplored places. Only those people come here.
I think that guy has been to 150 countries and we're going to pick him up We'll then be exploring the waterfall & few other places with him. So, let's explore this place. See its a bit sunny today and school buses are standing here.
Its full of greenery and a tropical island and coming here I felt I've never been to such a place before. It feels different and feels good on seeing. Look it's very pretty.
We left our apartment and it wouldn't have been 2 minutes and maybe just a minute passed by or maybe not even a minute and we've already reached the hotel we had to be at. Like it's such a small island. .
. yes. Here's Palau hotel.
So, he's staying here even though its quite expensive. We rented the cheapest property of this country. Our apartment for 3 nights was for $150.
Is he the one? This is Palau hotel. So, we've picked Nicholi from here.
Nicholi is from Germany. . .
oh sorry. . .
he's from Switzerland from Basel! And this is the good thing. .
. when you're a traveler its such a small world. We'll get something to eat from here because we don't have time to go to the restaurant we'll get late as it'll get dark.
We'll be exploring a bunch of islands nearby so thought to get something from the supermarket. We're here in the supermarket & I thought to give you an idea of the prices here. This Lindt Dark chocolate is for $5 (413 INR) What's the conversion for dollars right now?
82! 82, right? So this is for around 420 INR ($5.
08) Let's check this Dairy milk. They haven't written the prices for Dairy Milk here. This is also Caramello by Dairy milk.
Isn't it written on this too! No it's not but you can check this. This is Caramello by Dairy Milk for $3.
15 (260 INR). Since these were packed items they aren't that expensive and I think fruits will be more expensive because they might not be growing here and they would be importing them. They have just a bunch of fruits here.
400 grams! This is 1 lb or 450 grams for $1. 76.
150INR (1. 76$) for 400 grams. 300 INR ($3.
63) 300 INR ($3. 63) per kg. It will be more than that!
Take oranges at least. You don't eat guavas so get some apples. Apples are for.
. . 300 INR ($3.
63). . .
These are also for 300-350 INR per kg ($3. 63) It is costly but I thought it would be even more costly. These Grapes are from Peru imported from South America.
1 lb for almost $5 400 INR ($4. 84) for less than half kg. Grapes are 1000 INR ($12.
09) per kg here. Its such a big supermarket and I didn't expect to find such a big one here. Colombian coffee and other things.
. . It's a huge supermarket having almost everything.
Yes! Here they have free water refill. So we got things from the supermarket for $17.
25 (1426 INR) in which we got 2 water bottles. . 1 or 1.
25 litres each! Apart from that I got a pack of dry fruits as I didn't want to buy lot of packed food. Got some cookies too.
Everything was quite expensive as it was imported. So all these island nations in Oceania, Micronesia, Polynesia are small countries with very less fertile land so they don't produce much. Everything is imported which is why you'll find the people quite unhealthy here They consume packed food or canned food that contains a lot of conservatives, preservatives, sweeteners, etc Hence it's difficult to find or eat healthy food options here.
But anyways, I got freshly baked cookies in the supermarket instead of the packed ones along with dry fruits and water and I got apples. $17. 25 bill was for both Navankur and me.
Nicholi got his things billed separately . In fact, there's not a lot for Navankur as he eats less. Basis that it's a little expensive.
This is Japan Palau friendship bridge that I told you about in the last video. It was built by the Japanese. So this bridge connects Koror and place where they've their airport which is Babeldoab or Ngerulmud which is their capital city at present.
Although most of the people live in Koror but airport, etc is that side. You would've seen in the last video when we crossed this bridge. Another bridge existed before this that was built by the Koreans but it broke.
Later a Japanese company built this bridge called Japan Palau friendship bridge. We saw a good spot here and hence took a break. Look, it's great right.
There're showers here and even the water is colourful with some portions of green and some of blue. The separation was visible, while we were in the flight. The water was green, blue and then green and we could even spot purple from top.
Look in the centre they've the setup like a pool. Its a great place! People come and park under the bridge and enjoy their picnic by playing music, swimming or fishing.
Look! He's catching fresh fish and will maybe cook now. It's a small island.
We came a little far & parked the car here. We got down from the car & saw this traditional house here of Palau. They've made this midst the forest and people.
. . no one can find this place if not researched properly but Nicholi who's accompanying us has researched properly.
He directly brought us here! Yes, internet is also not working. Rest, I liked this place as its laid-back, calm and relaxed.
Even the Caribbean countries are similar but I find the people shout unnecessarily, smoke weed or drugs, and cleanliness is very rare there. It's quite clean here and there's no garbage around. We didn't find policemen here either!
Actually, there's no military here! I'll tell you an interesting fact there's no military in Palau. There're very few countries in the world like I went to Costa Rica that has no military.
Similarly Palau also has no military and they just have a maritime service unit of 30 people who just guard their oceans or the coast line. US has the responsibility to ensure safety if any attack is done on Palau. This is the parliament of Palau.
It was so far away We didn't even realise. even though the road was properly made. We drove for over 40-45 minutes covering over 30-40 kms and the road was smooth throughout.
There was no traffic at all. Their capital used to be Koror from where we came but like I told you they've changed it to a place far off from where people reside. The building's great right!
This looks like Vatican City! So behind me is the Parliament of Palau. It is on the outskirts of the city.
They've made Ngerulmud as the capital city. . .
It's not even a city and is a district infact. We can't call it a city! While I show you the parliament let me also tell you an interesting fact about Palau.
As I said, there's no military here but its also one of the most over governed place in the world. This means there're a lot of leaders in place than needed. So, it's that country at the global level.
Actually, there population isn't much and is about 18-20,000 and it has over 500 small islands. The entire country is divided into 16 different states with each state having a leader. Then they've further divided states into municipalities that again has a leader.
Then there's a leader for each tribe too. So, for a population of 18-20,000 there's a different leader for tribe, municipality, state and then they also have their president. In India.
we get these many votes for an election in a village. These many people come under a sarpanch (village head) in India and then there're so many people involved here like the tribe leader, municipality leader, leaders of 16 different states and then their president! I went around the parliament & as you saw there was no police or military around.
There's no protection so you can just come and record. While we saw an American embassy on the way and both (America & Palau) are so far away. There was an American embassy here too that was fortified from all corners with grills with clear signs denying to record or click photos.
They even had security! Its strange & I don't understand the system of America! Look at the road how amazing it is!
So today we'll give you an entire tour of Palau! We're in the northernmost part of Palau. Its a small island nation and we're in the northernmost part of their main island and look at the views and the water.
. . you can see all the shades of blue color like sky blue, blue, navy blue.
Look! Let's park the car here & go. They've written for separate charges for video recording here of $50 for drone or normal video recording but I think its for professional cameras.
There was an entrance fee of $2. No one's coming besides us. So we parked the car here and a lady was sitting in this car.
So like there's no office and she just called us and told us to pay $15 or $5 per person which is for foreign visitors. For locals I think it's $2. .
. is there any fee for them or not? Yes!
For locals it's $2. For foreigners its $5 or 400 INR. Try requesting her if we can fly it.
. . Say $50 is too much & try if something can be done or else we'll fly somewhere else.
She won't agree. The view of the ocean is so beautiful, right. There're monoliths down there, so we'll go and check them.
Since I've already told you so much, let me tell you one more thing about Palau. So all the people (representatives) that we're seeing here like when we rented the car at the airport there was a lady representative. Then we rented the apartment after that & we dealt with a lady there too.
So we're finding lady representatives almost everywhere be it for property or like we came here there was a lady representative to whom we had to pay. If this was some other country like India then usually or most likely the person is going to be a male. So the chances of finding a male is more.
There's a big reason behind this which is Palau being a Matrilineal society hence the women dominate the society more. While the kinship in India is Patrilineal and Patriarchal hence the father's surname is usually passed on and that's how the family grows. But there're very few countries where society grows on the women's surname out of which Palau is one.
Usually the father's name is asked but they ask for mother's name here. So they'll ask for mother's name everywhere & her surname will be taken forward. Hence, women dominate the society more.
Patriarchal means a society that's male dominated while matriarchal means society ruled by women. Although Palau isn't matriarchal but matrilineal as it pertains only to kinship. Hence, women's role in kinship or the last name is much more.
But when it comes to ruling its not just women dominated but they actively participate there too & you'll hence see women more. You'll find men too but women dominate more in terms of kinship & otherwise. Look where we're.
I got these slippers which were for very cheap. And it pricks. .
. Yes, it actually pricks! Although I am particular about slippers & shoes and I always carry the best ones with me.
But I had to make my bag very light so. . .
& pack such things that if needed can be thrown off. So, we're doing donkey due to these stones. Are we going to Australia like this?
Yes! We weren't able to cross the forests of Panama and doing so in Palau. It feels as if we're actually doing donkey.
So, I was talking about women so there're very few countries in the world where kinship is women based or where women tend to dominate the society and Palau is one among them. Even India has such tribes and societies, like very small communities or tribes that are women dominated but you wouldn't be aware of them as they're very isolated. Is this the stone?
So we're here to see these stones. Looking at them you'll think why are we here as these are just stones. But we were asking him as to what special is there in this & he said he has no idea who put them here.
So this is the only reason of them being found here on the island. amount 1. 6 million dollar.
. . it was made for such less amount!
Yes. . .
you're driving on the right side! Oh stupid. .
. Navankur takes the car that side whenever the road is empty and I tell him its not India. At times.
. . a car was coming from the front and he said the driver is mad for bringing the car on the wrong side.
But actually we're stupid going there. So we've been driving on the roads of Palau since the last 45 minutes to find Ngardmau waterfall which is the most popular tourist attraction of Palau and we're not able to find it. Since the last 45 minutes we're struggling with google maps that's showing us different roads even though no such road exists.
On their main road. . .
okay finally we saw a house. There's no one on either side and its just trees around with such clean roads and there's nobody expect us. We've seen the entire country through this car and haven't left any place.
And we're not able to find the waterfall which is their main spot. Some person. .
. We saw a house and took the car there. See we've taken the car inside and there's nobody here too or else it would've been chaotic here.
There's no one here. Let's go out and see. No one's coming.
We just entered someone's property & no one's coming. See, we're here in someone's house and no one's coming. Look!
The boat is pretty nice, right. ` People here are quite into hobbies. There's someone.
Oh, he's playing baseball inside the house. Hello! Someone's playing baseball.
See, I saw it from the window. Hello! The views of Palau are just amazing!
We've come inside someone's house & we can't see anybody! The waterfall which is the main spot can't be found & there's no board for it. We've seen all the streets and there's nothing.
But we're enjoying it. It's adventurous and the place is beautiful. We're having fun!
Nicholi said hello so many times, yet no one's coming out. I think they're watching baseball. Yeah!
On the TV! Can not see anyone. Hello!
Watching Baseball. . .
Yes, they're watching Baseball on TV screen But no one's coming out. Look its quite fun! I can't control my laughter.
Its like a joke as we banged so much on the door and even took the car inside the lawn but no one came out. People here are quite chill and in fact this is how people should be. But atleast entertain us if we're inside the house.
Someone come? Oh this car! Hello.
. . hello!
Stop! No I was saying it to him. .
. There's a car! Yeah, let's go there.
Can you see someone? No one is in here. No!
Let's check this place. Yeah, there's someone! There's someone in this car?
Here! Oh here's someone! We can ask him.
Brother! Pull down the window! Excuse me!
But we couldn't find the road there. 200 metres you look for the left sign. .
. But so. .
. so we're going back. So we'll go right.
So he told us to go straight and turn right and turn left after 300-400 metres. Do you know where's the waterfall? Ngardmau Waterfall!
Ngardmau! Ngardmau! First left from here?
Yeah! Okay. Thank you so much.
Okay so waterfall's sign board is here. We've reached finally! We're here!
3 people! Hi! This is its.
. . It's open from 8 am to 5 pm daily.
How much is the fee? $10. .
. Tourist fee is for $10! And for the locals too it's $5.
$5 for locals. Here also there's a women at the counter like I explained. So the entry fee was $10 per person and we had to make an entry in the register as this is a protected area so we need to write name and the country we're from and we could easily see the list for the last one week there in the register.
So, we saw there was no other Indian except us. Most of them were from Taiwan, US, Holland, and there was no one from India. They might have but maybe quite a long back.
So this is how the route to the waterfall looks like. Look! Oh there's a train track too here.
So, maybe a local train would run here. Look! Its a train track!
There's a fee of $550 for documenting or making videos here if you bring any cameras. We were recording from phone which is why they didn't ask us. Maybe it's for professional cameras.
But there's a fee drone too. My power bank was in the drone bag and we didn't plan to fly the drone but I thought to get the bag for the power bank & in case we plan to fly it for some shots. I got the bag from the car and the power bank cable was also in it.
So, when I came back I got the drone bag that had the power bank too. So as I was coming, 2 people called out for me and I asked what happened. He asked what I am carrying and I said I'm taking my charger.
They said shooting isn't allowed and it's a drone bag. So I said, even if I have the bag I am not going to fly it and I'm just taking my charger from it. Then they asked me to keep the bag back & just take the charger as we'll have to pay separately for the drone.
So, I kept my bag and got my charger from it. Fee is $550! We don't want to make such videos!
The route was so dangerous something or the other keeps pricking me in these slippers and we even crossed small bridges & we finally have this rough path of road. Nothing but just a temporary solution made with metal. I didn't record so as to keep both my hands free as I was slipping.
It was quite dangerous route. Yes, I can now walk with ease here. Lets go!
We're almost there and we're very near. I think we've been walking for 15 minutes Oh I think we're here! There's no tourist except us.
We were confused thinking if we'll find other tourist. But I was sure we won't find any as who's coming to this country as very rarely people come here. And for those who do.
. . the rich won't trail through the forest.
Let's go! It's amazing right? But look the water's coming in shifts.
See its coming slowly. Finally, we're here. The view is beautiful.
We didn't plan to bathe here but since it was hot we're sweating. So, we're thinking to go take a dip. Navankur is going to have a dip.
I'll go behind him too. The water is too cold. Amarendra Bahubali!
Look at the views here. Wow! Oh, amazing!
Wonderful! And look at him standing there. Come and have fun!
Felt good after taking a dip. I was confused before, if I should go in or not. But then I thought I won't be coming back to this country again most probably!
This waterfall is the highlight of this country so I thought to get in even though we din't have a towel or extra pair of clothes. We were unprepared. But we got in and had such great fun.
You would've seen in the video. Okay let's get started with the dangerous hike to go back. Had a shower?
We're here finally! Enjoyed it! It's good we took a dip there otherwise he would've been irritated.
We feel fresh after that! Yes! Didn't half way through!
So, we're heading back and there was a little hike and we're done with it. The experience was great! We're back in the car and need Indian food now.
So, we're going back to the same Indian restaurant as there's only one of it in Palau. So, we're going there. We're very hungry as we didn't eat properly since morning.
We just ate. . .
Shall I make fast & furious? Make fast & furious. Nicholi was asking us when and what we'll eat and we told him we'll eat Indian food now.
Let's go! Haven't eaten since morning. Yes!
So, we're back after exploring and its quite nice as compared to other Caribbean islands We didn't enjoy at all there if we compare to the time here. Had fun! We've covered the entire country.
. . .
we drove for 100 miles or 160 kms or maybe a little more than that. There's a park behind! Let's go and have Indian food now.
I'm very excited as I'm super hungry! The park is also nice right? Look!
See, this is a children's park. I feel like going to the park too. What Indian?
Oh, Indian Embassy! Indian Embassy? Oh it's here.
Where? Oh, here's the Indian restaurant & right next to it. .
. see Indian consulate. And there's Australian Embassy next to it.
It looks like shops in a shopping complex. Its Indian! Hope no one hears us!
Hope ambassador doesn't hear me. Felt good after eating papad. They've even given us Samosa today.
Even the food is here. Thank you. This is butter chicken!
Garlic naan with this.
