ever since the nether was added to Minecraft in the 2010 Halloween update moders have had an obsession with creating their own spins to the concept of alternate Dimensions accessible to the player as they should because it's a cool idea and opens the game up to a huge degree of creative freedom but with over 13 years of modding we've hit a point where a majority of these original Creations have since been forgotten to time so I wanted to look back and see what some of the older Dimension mods had to offer and where else to start
but the ather mod probably the most recognizable Dimension Mod created and one of the first I know it's not really forgotten but it's so iconic and no longer in proper development that I feel like I have to talk about it it's become so well known that a large portion of the player base thought it was official only to be disappointed when their portal didn't activate there's even a small percentage of people that thought it was actually a part of the game for a time which is obviously incorrect the aether's always been a mod and probably
always will though the Creator Brandon Pierce does now actually work for Mojang on Minecraft which is probably how that rumor started I'm sure you know how to get to the ather but for the few who don't before we can go anywhere we have to get to the nether first for some glowstone not a whole lot is needed just enough to make your basic portal frame we'll also need a bucket of water to activate the portal identically to the nether portal will make our rectangular frame out of Glowstone and we can light it with our bucket
of water and here we are the ather Dimension the heaven to the ne's hell the ather aesthetic is Iconic nowadays and it's no wonder why considering what the game had to offer in its beta a dimension of floating islands with its own variety of resources and mobs is nothing to scoff at this is before the end by the way and during this time the nether was just this so the ather was really pushing the envelope on what an alternate Dimension could be now besides the aesthetic and mobs and whatnot one of the first things You'
notice is that your top-of-the-line diamond tools are kind of useless here in fact besides basic building blocks everything from the Overworld is useless and that's because the ather is less of an alternate dimension in the traditional sense and more of a whole new game experience once you get here you really could ignore the base game and just spend the rest of your time indulging in the ather experience it has its own Tree Mineral mob variety to engage with being honest the ather is arguably more of an engaging experience than Minecraft was at the time this
version of Minecraft Beta had no bosses enchanting Villages barely any biomes and no dungeons to explore pretty much once you got diamonds and looked around the nether you would have reached Max progression anything past that was filling time Yourself by building cool structur es not that there is anything wrong with that of course but progression is what helps keep people motivated to play and due to Minecraft's lack of progression at the time it's easy to understand why people were drawn to the mod the ather had everything the base game was offering and a whole lot
more plus it beat Minecraft to the punch with the concept of boss fights yes the ather has three different boss battles on offer each with their own unique dungeon to explore that correlates with them and loopholes that arguably exed what current Minecraft offers all of this long before the concept of Boss en cannons were probably even considered for Minecraft yes I did say loot pools the ather has increased the amount of equipable items for the player we've now got capes Rings gloves Shields and pendants all providing new craftable and obtainable items that increase the player's
capabilities and customization options which is not even touching on the new weapon pool but I'm getting ahead of myself we'll get to that shortly let's take take a look at our first experience with the ather first of all we'll need some trees so we can get some basic tools even the wooden equivalent of the aether's tools will work with more efficiency than regular diamond tools will we'll also need some torches which is where ambrosian comes in play working as the aether's coal replacement and yes you can eat these I can eat these Keen eyes have
noticed that we have quite the variety of mobs here pigs and cows with wings some very puffy sheep these bunnies that will become your best friend I'll show you what I mean in just a second some big birds called MOA very aesthetic giant whales and these guys the most annoying mob in the entire Dimension you'll notice they seem to act exactly like gas except they shoot snowballs at you eventually you'll get hit by one of these and you'll get knocked back not that bad right beat getting blown up that's until you remember that the entire
ather consists of floating islands and especially when you're just starting out the only consistent way to move between them is bridging now if you're fast enough you can dodge their attacks but rest assured you will eventually get hit you just better hope it's not above the void if you are unfortunate enough to get knocked off the islands at some point you are blessed with a single use parachute when you first enter the ather that will gently Glide you back to the ground however once it's gone you've got two options either craft more which requires you
to M some clouds more on that later as well or you can rely on our Bunny friends getting your hands on a bunny is a guaranteed way to ensure your safety when first playing through the mod just right click on one and it'll sit at top your head allowing you to gently float down big drops removing any fear of fall damage and yeah the clouds you'll find three different types of blockade clouds that'll generate throughout the dimension the regular cold air clouds that are used to craft these single use parachutes these will also prevent fall
damage if you land on them the blue Air clouds that will bounce you very high into the air be careful though because they do not prevent fall damage if you land away from them you'll probably die and the rarest of them all the gold Air clouds these working like the cold air clouds but are specifically used to craft the golden parachute which has multiple uses all right enough yamarin let's actually engage with the mod properly like I said we have to get some new resources seeing as our Overworld ones are useless here the ather adds
a lineup of materials that allow you to craft Overworld equivalent of all your stand standards we've got skyroot holy Stone zenite and finally gravitite there's also Valkyrie tools however they're a rare drop and aren't craftable so they don't really count now that we've got our basic tools we can initiate our first dungeon and meet the starter boss the bronze dungeon will spawn generally near your portal entrance just look around a bit and you should see it poking out of the land somewhere going inside the interior is pretty cool definitely generic dungeon Vibes but it has
its own charm it won't take you long to find our first boss the slider a big block now I wonder how you beat a big block once you start swinging away at the guy his eyes will open and he'll slide around his room you'll get locked inside and you can't break the blocks of the dungeon till the boss is dead so the only way to escape is to either die or kill him really he's pretty straightforward to kill that's why I went for him so fast the better quality your pickaxe is the faster he'll die
but you honestly could take this guy down with skyroot pickaxes and you won't struggle too hard just keep rotating around him and you'll be golden he's got a second phase where his eye gets red and he'll speed up and do more damage but the approach to combat is the same once he's dead he'll drop some Stone poor guy and a bronze key that'll let you unlock the locked chest that he was sitting on top of this is where that additional loot pool comes in play you can get some cool weapons and equipment from these it's
random but whatever you get will come in handy with what's to come there's things like lightning swords and Flame swords that work exactly like you'd expect items that give you specific Buffs like the iron bubble that lets you breathe under water there's a lot of items you can get now I know what some of you are thinking why not just break the blocks under the boss and mine the chest open but like I said before you can't break the dungeon until the boss is dead and even if you somehow could the chest is also unbreakable
so no matter what you have to fight the boss and get the key our next objective the silver dungeon shouldn't be too far away either you want to look around for a floating Sky Temple you'll probably want to prepare a bit more for this one maybe get your hands on some armor I initially chose not to and got destroyed because of it and trust me you don't want to die in here the chances of getting all your items back is very low inside the temple is relatively similar to the bronze Temple just smaller rooms with
lots of chest you want to be careful though a lot of these chests are mimics the boss will be somewhere inside the valkyrie Queen however before she'll fight you you'll need to get your hands on 10 Victory medals these are dropped by the regular Valkyries that'll spawn throughout the dungeon and they're pretty hard to deal with every hit they'll teleport away and they'll also deal some pretty solid damage the dungeon can be pretty unforgiving with their spawn rate as well sure sometimes you'll only have to fight one every now and then but other times it'll
just drop five on you at once and dealing with five hard-hitting teleporting enemies was let's just say a bit beyond my skill range we got through it eventually and fighting the actual boss was easier than the numerous Valkyries that took to get the battle started she fights identically to the Valkyries but has more health and Deals a bit more damage the large space of her chamber actually making her easier to deal with you've got a lot more space to move around she'll drop the silver key and you can use that to get your hands on
more goodies in preparation for the hardest boss the ather has to offer to find it you'll want to look for a spherical Island topped with these golden trees that's where the location of the final gold dungeon will be and just like the others this shouldn't really spawn too far away you might have to do a bit of wandering to see one but you should be able to locate it eventually there will be an entrance somewhere along the edge of the island and inside will be the boss the sun god unlike the other bosses you don't
have to find him inside there's no Labyrinth or anything just his room as soon as you go in he'll spout some dialogue before eventually initiating the battle just to make sure you really are ready to throw hands with him and yeah he's pretty powerful I definitely didn't need to endlessly cheat in items to make sure I Wouldn't Die he's a big magma guy that'll fly around his room shooting Fireballs that'll bounce around and explode on impact they don't last forever from what I could tell he'll only ever have four going at a time which is
more than enough to make them a nuisance you can't attack him directly either eventually he'll shoot out a slow moving ice ball that you've got to knock into him to deal damage doing that will make him spawn a miniature version of himself that'll bum rush you and deal Hefty damage really if you know what you're doing and can avoid him and his Fireballs well enough you could probably deal with him relatively easily killing him will give you the gold key so you can get more cool loot I guess I should also mention that after he
dies the ather will start having a regular day night cycle so if you like how it's always daytime in the ather maybe hold off killing this guy and that's the main offerings of the ather really I'm just scratching the surface for what you can do here which again is a testament to how good this mod was for being essentially the first of its kind there's actually so much gear you can get that gives you all sorts of perks the dungeons don't stop spawning by the way so you can continue to fight the bosses to get
more cool stuff I could keep going for a very long time about all the stuff in the ather but I've got other mods to cover so I'll stop here before I move on as I was working on this video the ather team just released an updated version of the dimension for current Minecraft which is really cool to see it's just like how it was so I highly recommend giving it a go Dimensional Doors is definitely one of the most unique Dimension mods you'll find less of a dimension in a traditional sense and more of a
tool to be utilized by the player there's no portal you can build initially instead you'll find doorways scattered throughout your world entering these won't bring you into one specific Dimension with minerals mobs and the like to explore rather each doorway you'll find will lead you into a Labyrinth of miniature dungeons puzzles and trap rooms all filled with more doors that'll Lead You deeper and deeper inside you'll want to keep track of where you are because it's very easy to get lost it's also important that you tread carefully through here large chunks of the dungeons are
made from blocks called fabric of reality that look identical to the void they fully absorb light so you'll never be able to tell when you're on stable ground or when the infinite void is below you the main thing you're looking for here besides some nice mid-tier loot is World thread which is the main resource this mod adds that allows you to explore all of its main features not only can you craft some cool woven World thread armor but you can also craft stable fabric stable fabric is used to make pretty much everything including four different
types of Dimensional Doors each having their own purpose there's the iron dimensional door which will give you your own personal pocket Dimension each iron door leads to its own Dimension so you can use them to store whatever you want individually there's the quartz dimensional door also used to create your own pocket Dimension but this one works in a similar fashion to the Ender Chest there's only one dimension and every quartz door will lead to it the gold dimensional door will lead you to a random dimension for you to explore the upside is you can come
and go as you please I didn't mention it before but the natural spawning doorways are single use once you exit back out of them they're gone leaving an unstable core in their wake warn what to do with those in a bit and finally the wooden dimensional door which can be used to create an exit in any existing Dimension so so if you do get lost inside you can pop one down and Scurry away to safety the wooden and iron doors actually have an additional feature but to explore them you'll need to craft a rift signature
you'll also probably want a rift stabilizer and Rift remover as well using the rift signature you can select two separate locations anywhere in the world once you've done that you'll have created two linked Rift cores slap a wooden or iron dimensional door on the ominous black mass that starts growing on either of them and you've now got yourself an instant teleport you can use a rift signature across any distance or any Dimension gone are the days of creating long nether roads to get around your world now you can just slap some Rifts down and have
instant access to anywhere you'd like you can also place the iron or wooden doors under the unstable cores Left Behind the naturally spawning doors letting you go back to its original pocket Dimension if you would like the rift removers can be used to you guessed it remove any riffs either ones you've placed if if you decide you want to change up your dimension locations or existing Rifts Left Behind from your exploration I pointed it out before but once a rift is created a black mass will start to form and grow around it this is the
byproduct of an unstable Rift core if left alone that black mass will continue to fractal out slowly turning surrounding blocks into W thread placing a door on top of a rift core will stop it from spreading but you can also use a rift stabilizer to do the same thing which is great if you're in the process of creating a longdistance doorway and don't want the core to eat away at its surroundings this is especially handy when you're using the stabilized Rift signature which lets you create multiple doorways that all lead back to a single location
the first click is the location you want to come back to and any subsequent click will create a rift that you can then use to teleport back to the starting point the stabilized signature will keep that initial location stored so you can continue to take it out and create more doorways as you Explore More locations the do keep in mind that you can only exit out of the initial location you can't teleport to your other areas from the starting point the final thing you can craft with the stable fabric is the rift blade which you
can use to teleport to mobs and also teleport between Rifts without needing a doorway because the doors eat up so much stable fabric it works as a great substitute for them allowing you to still teleport around your world while you collect the necessary resources now what happens if you're unlucky enough to fall into the void while you're exploring these pocket Dimensions you don't fall to your death like you think you would instead you're teleported to a completely new dimension limbo limbo is a perpetually dark dimension made up entirely of unraveled fabric if you look up
to the sky you'll see an ominous red eye staring at you constantly as you run around you'll probably notice that one you don't take any fall damage so you can't kill yourself to escape and two there's smaller red eyes that'll slowly start to open up and stare at you intently when you get near them you do not want to stay in their Sidelines for too long because if you do they'll teleport you back to where you started there's only one way to escape limbo and that's by finding these red PS of Eternal fabric which will
teleport you somewhere random to the Overworld I really love this Dimension Mod it's not packed of content in the same type of way usual Dimension mods are it's more of a utility mod more than anything but I have vivid memories of my first time exploring the pocket Dimensions being enamored by all the different rooms you can find and trust me there is a lot of areas inside that you can get lost in while some just work as death traps or Loop Pooles there's a fair few that have just the slightest hint of law to them
just enough to let your mind fill in the blanks on what the pocket Dimensions actually are the first time you enter limbo especially if you aren't fully aware of what it is creates such a sense of dread and uncertainty that a lot of mods can't fully replicate sure once you understand how it works it does lose that luster but that initial feeling unsure of what lies inside this strange Dimension it's rare to find even though the original Creator is no longer actively working on the mod there's luckily a new team who's taking it upon themselves
to continue keeping it up to date with the latest version of the game and add new features that I didn't touch on here so just like the ather you can still try it out which I really implore you to do just to explore around and see what it has to offer even if you don't fully interact with its teleporting features [Laughter] oh this I'm just taking a break I won't be a second where am I trer craft is a very interesting mod and just like Dimensional Doors you can't access it by your standard portal creation
no instead we have to do some hunting to craft a few unique items first of all we'll need to find one of the newly added palm trees these will spawn on beaches and deserts they'll have some tasty coconut growing on them as well that if broken with a sword we'll drop a coconut chunk you'll then want to find some pineapple which can spawn in forests and jungles breaking those with a sword will give you some pineapple cubes and finally you want some bamboo we'll need to craft ourselves a mug from that bamboo then if we
combine that with our pineapple cubes and coconut chunks we'll get a nice tasty panut colada now don't get tempted to drink it too fast we'll put it aside because we need one more item a beach chair which can be crafted with some wool of our desired color and some bamboo sticks once we've got our drink and our seat find yourself a cozy spot where you can see the sunset once that Sun starts setting take a sip of your pinac colada and you'll be transported to the beautiful Tropics inspired after one of the lead creators took
a vacation the tropical realm is less of a hostile biome like the traditional dimension mod and more of a expanded Overworld experience dedicated to one biome type just like the ather you could spend the rest of your game time here if you'd really want to unlike the ather though there's no bosses or specific progression it's more open-ended like a regular Dimension you'll notice that the dimension is much more saturated than regular Minecraft the water is a nice teal blue filled with colorful coral and the landscape is dotted with a new array of bright flowers all
of these giving the dimension an inviting aesthetic it's filled with palm trees papaya trees giant mahogany trees and smaller fruit trees that can have things like oranges and grapefuit Roots growing in them you'll also see these giant EAS Island heads that'll spawn throughout the dimension they're made from chunko head which can be used to craft some decorative blocks the heads will also have brightly colored eyes made from a rare material you'll probably notice the huge variety of additional mobs this Dimension introduces like hummingbirds seagulls iguanas basilic lizards a bunch of new sea life these vacationing
bees with cool sunglasses and even crabs just like the ones that lost the mob foot they there is a lot of passive mobs in the dimension so I won't list them all you'll just have to explore for yourself and see what you can find but they really add a lot to the athetic of the tropics there's pretty much always something new to catch your eye as you explore that's not to say everything here is friendly of course the dimension is filled with its fair share of aggressive mobs like these poisonous frogs that can chase after
you faster than you can run away or these smaller Easter Island heads that look passive enough until you get close to one where it'll start to slide to towards you and dish out some impressive damage you've also got some tropical variations of existing mobs like the Tropa Skelly skeletons carrying bamboo Spears instead of their usual bows tropical spiders which are just like your regular Spider but green so they blend in better with the surrounding environment and these surprisingly chill looking tropical creepers that don't seem to do any damage when they explode and instead of leaving
a crar in their wake they'll leave an array of pretty flowers the guys you'll want to look out for are the Ashen these little with cool masks that spawn on Treetops they'll paralyze you with blow dart and start stabbing you with their bamboo Spears while they can be a bit dangerous if they get to jump on you they're not too hard to deal with hitting them once will make their mask fall off their face and they'll stop attacking you to cover themselves allowing you to either pick up the mask off the ground and put it
on they won't be aggressive if you're wearing a mask or take them out while they're caring like I said before you can live in this Dimension like it's the Overworld thanks to all the resources it provides the caves naturally spawning of things like coal iron Etc but besides the basics there's of course new additions that you'll want to look out for so you can explore more of what the mod has to offer the main things you want to be looking out for being azerite and ziron these can be used to craft things like the scuba
diving suits great to explore all the cool sea life the mod adds and get your hands on the abundance of coral a blow gun of your own some specialty tools if you so desire or the water wand a useful item that'll let you remove chunks of water great if you're making an underwater base of some kind I talked about a few of the fruit types you can find and they're not just there for sure you can actually craft a drink mixer and put together some cool tropical drinks like lemonade limeade orange Aid a cocktail coffee
each of these drinks having its own status effect they don't last that long but they're handy to have just in case the last big thing this mod adds that I want to cover is its own villager type cow unlike regular villagers though these guys have quite a bit more complexity to them they'll be assigned a job as either a hunter or a fisherman a hunter will Adventure out of their Village and fight off the monsters that spawn returning to their Village to heal if they take too much damage a fisherman will you guessed it fish
putting everything they have Into The Village's communal chest for the hunters to eat to replenish their health they're also okay of you taking the fish if you visit the island so if you're low on food at all you've got a good consistent food source each type of COA can trade with you also their trading work works just like the normal villager trading though they'll trade with pearls instead of emeralds the COA will also do little rituals at night around the center bonfire sitting around in a circle sometimes one of them will play the drums that
kind of thing it's neat seeing NPCs act a bit more alive even if it's only a little having them be more involved as a unit and participating together in group activities without the players involvement is not something you see in the base game the overall aesthetic of the village is one I can get behind as well they're normally built at top the water with Bridges connecting their houses and because they actively fight enemy mobs instead of hiding from them their homes don't have doors and are a lot more open adding to that Community feel the
NPCs create this Dimension is really fun to just relax in sure it's not his goal orientated as the ather or carry as much utility as Dimensional Doors but its pleasant environments capture that feeling of being on a holiday somewhere different you can get lost just enjoying the scenery taking the game a bit slower than you normally would sometimes you can get a bit too focused on progressing when playing Minecraft so having a dimension that lets you take a breather and enjoy the core gameplay is very much appreciated as I'm sure you can guess there is
a lot more that the mod adds that I'm not covering but I'll leave that to you to explore after all just like the other mods there is an active team working on keeping this updated and are continuously adding new features so I really implore you to install this and give it a look yourself there's a lot of Dimension mods too many for just one video but I'm hoping I was able to show you some that you might not be aware of or might have forgotten long ago each mod will be linked in the description of
course if you want to download them also I just want to thank everyone for the support on my last video it performed way better than I ever could have imagined and I'm extremely grateful I've got a load of content planned so thanks for choosing to stick around and I promise I'll try not to disappoint
