I have 100ed biomorph and it's really really good and if that's all you wanted to know from my nice clickbaity video title if that's all you wanted to know before you pick the game up for yourself there you go it is great like And subscribe look out for my map coming soon thanks for watching have fun with biomof if you want to know why I think this however continue watching I don't normally do separate review videos because of time time after all is money and this is not my job but thanks to the devs and
publisher I did receive a review key for the game that I requested over a week early which is way earlier than a lot of people will give you a review key which means I've been able to 100% the game and spend well I'm not going to tell you how many hours I've spent making the map because that'll give you a clue as to how long the game is and I don't want to do any spoilery type stuff in this video but I've had time to make a map and I've had time to write and record
this review before the Embargo date let alone the actual game release date and this makes me very happy so thank you to the devs thank you for the Publishers this is not a sponsored video this is not an advert all opinions are my own and let's be honest I am really stubborn and I'm too stubborn to be bought I don't do sponsored content and I don't see this as such I'm going to try and keep this video as light on spoilers as I can especially regarding the story of which there is one there's a fair
chunk of dialogue in this game some of it's very funny some of it's quite moving I wouldn't say it's necessarily a story heavy game but everybody has got their own metric for that for me it is one of I would say the the best paced story driven I suppose Metro advant that I've played in in a long time now I judge Metro veners on their adherence to three pillar combat zones to explore and abilities used to get around those zones that you can often use in combat as well and of course I also judge games
in this genre based on their Maps the types of maps how usable their maps are etc etc for obvious reasons you know I'm that guy more on that as we go and normally I would talk about combat zones to explore and abilities used to get around those zones in that order but it doesn't actually make sense to do that for biomorph and I'll explain why in a bit so instead let's talk about zones first and I want to start with addressing a complaint that I saw about the extended demo of biomorph that's been available on
Steam for a while that the areas that you explore all looked visually the same now in the demo you only got to explore the first couple of areas you got to look at bmore and you got to look at the Meto Skyway and if that is all you oh and a little bit of the the kind of Labs at the start and if that is all you see then yeah I can kind of see why you would think they all look the same I personally didn't really think that you know they' got different color palette
choices different enemies different kinds of backgrounds but rest assured there are some very visually diverse biomes in the full game this is the only spoiler warning I'm going to give because this is the only spoilery thing that I'm going to do I'm going to show you very brief Snippets of some of the more visually interesting things that you can explore not in the late game but certainly mid game so if you don't want any zones spoiled for you above and beyond the demo Look Away now [Music] okay you're safe to look back at the screen
let's talk about blight Moore if you play the demo you'll know this but if you didn't bmore is your Hub town and it's a town that can be expanded by finding blueprints scattered or purchased all over the Game World you can expand the Fast Travel network there you can upgrade your chips which are your weapons we'll talk about those in a second or your modules which are like charms from holl night we'll talk about that in a second as well and you can even own and decorate your own house in the town and I bring
this up because upgrading your house is actually really important not necessarily the decorating part but upgrading it is going to be really important for all of you completionists I'm not going to tell you why but look forward to that it was a moment it was one of the moments in the game that actually made me oh that's really cool that's really good that's that shows that the devs really know the kind of things that players want so look forward to that moment for yourselves now I've always said that the best metran feature abilities that make
it fun to both fight the enemies and the bosses in the games and to explore now this is why combat and the abilities that are used in combat and getting around the world are pillars of Metro design for me and biomorph takes this idea to an extreme not only are there many many weapon chips to find in the game of which you can equip three at a time and assign to a face button to vary up your combat and they are all very different and yes you will find yourself in a rhythm of ones that
you like you know there are slow weapons there are fast weapons there are ranged weapons there are weapons that are kind of spell like some of of them have got charges so that you can only use them a certain number of times before you have to go and recharge them some of them are just spammable they all got different powers they can all be upgraded and so on and so forth It's a reasonably deep weapon system it will allow I suppose for a lot of replayability or diversity or choosing the right weapon for the job
but as well as all those weapon chips that you can find to kill the enemies in the game there are 30ish probably enemies in the game for some of you that might sound like not a lot but keep this in mind of those 30ish enemies most of them can be biom morphed into and biomorph into an enemy gives you an entirely separate Suite of options some of the biomorph enemies only have one thing that they can do so an early game example of that is the abor which basically is a big hulking enemy that's really
slow but can punch really hard and can break through blocks and barriers that you couldn't otherwise do another early game Enemy is the tooth which has got two potential abilities that he can use a ranged attack which fires out three kind of sonic waves or sonic Bubbles and a charge move which again can break through certain barriers all of the biom morphable enemies in the game have got things that they can do combat options or traversal options there's a limit however of how many biomorphs you can equip at a time just like with yourb weapons
you can only equip three biomorph creatures at a time and you have to have biom morphed a certain number of them in the world before you unlock the ability to equip them and some of the early game enemies you won't actually be able to biomorph equip until later in the game which again shows the developers are thought really hard about the pace and the structure and when and where they want you to have access to certain creatures and abilities and you do need to return to one of your safe points to change your loadouts each
of the multiple enemies in fact all of the enemies and bosses in the game they're visually interesting they're quite alien and they really give some life to the world but I've got to admit by about the third or fourth biome I did begin to get a slight niggling worry at the back of my mind I was worried that there was going to be a lot of unnecessary backtracking where I didn't have the right biomorphs equipped for a given room I didn't need to worry I can count on one hand the number of times that I
actually needed to go back to a save point to equip a certain biom and they were all for late game secrety things there was nothing that I could think of that was mandatorily locked away by oh you need to go back and equip this specific one pretty much everything else in the game the biost that you need will be nearby you just NE you just got to find them so the biomorph system is fabulous for gate and collectibles Quest items secrets in a way that makes you remember them and this was wasn't in the demo
and this came is quite surprise to me in the full game the game features a screenshot map pin system that you possibly seen recently in Prince of Persia the Lost Crown which I was really surprised by and it's such a godsend for people like me that get lost really easily or that struggle to find map pins to represent different things it speeds up the navigation it speeds up the secret hunting and as well as being able to do this and I think there's a limit of like 20 that you can put on the map at
any time and I never got anywhere close to needing to use all 20 because of how the game works there are also regular map pins that you can put down as well so let's talk the map because maps are kind of what I'm known for if you played the demo you know that the map was quite blocky it got tiny little connectors between rooms this hasn't changed much in both design and principle it is still a very square or rectangular blocked map but now a lot of those very kind of square blocks also have visual
landmarks kind of overlaid onto them as well a lot more actually than I expected to and this AIDS in navigation it makes the map more interesting to look at and the game also does one of my favorite modern Metro ofen things and changes the room border color when you've got everything done in a room and I do mean everything done I don't necessarily mean all the items picked up because the room border will not turn golden until you've biomorph every biomorph creature in that room you've collected all of the things in that room hidden or
otherwise and you have completed any quests involving any NPCs that might happen to be in that room so if you've got a room with an NPC in and you're thinking I found everything why is it not not turning golden it's probably because the NPC is involved in a quest at some point in the game and you'll have to go and find that the map is one of the most usable I think I've ever played with and whilst it doesn't have the smooth zooming and panning of the Lost crown or the blast brigades Maps because they
are made in a very different way it's very very user friendly there's a lot of quality of life now getting around this map and these zones and doing all this fighting of enemies is is aided not only by the chips and the modules that you equip but of course by a suite of Metro Vania Powers all twists on Powers that you've seen in other games we've got staples like edash wall jumping swimming they're here I don't think they're massive spoilers because you'll have seen bits and pieces that required that in the demo but there are
plenty of other powers that you can get that I'm not going to spoil for you they're quite situational but they do lead to some really interesting world and puzzle SL traversal design that I really really appreciate it and again many of them are also usable in combat to give you more options or in boss fights to Aid you in avoiding some of the most interesting attack patterns in fact there are a couple of bosses in the game that you can't even get to unless you equip certain biomorphs and you need to use them in the
fights I really like this design although I can see how some people won't on the subject of things that people might not like is there anything negative is there anything I disliked is there anything that I think people will complain about yes game isn't perfect number one I found the music a little bit generic when I noticed it it was actually because it sounded a little bit final fantasy-esque or a little bit Monster Hunter esque very specific things that I noticed if you haven't played Final Fantasy or Monster Hunter chances are you're not going to
notice this but for me it was just like that's how sounds a little bit like this or that sounds a little bit like that most of the time I didn't notice the music at all it was kind of there in the background adding Ambience and that was fine it's not a huge problem for me but it's an observation the music was just a little bit unnoticeable SL generic SL sounds like something else I've mentioned the module system already it's the charm system from holl Knight now I love the charm system from holl Knight I'd argue
that it's one of the best things that holl Knight did and I like the fact that so many other games are copying it and using it and I couldn't give two Hoots at all about this that's just copied from Hollow nights but I know a lot of there's a lot of people that really get worked up when games take things from holl Knight regardless of the fact that holl Knight didn't actually invent this system it was used in many games beforehand but it's there it offers you a lot of of customization a lot of variety
a lot of options again I'm not going to spoil any of those for you but there are some really obvious ones like a magnet power that you can equip and so on and so forth there's loads of them to find contact damage yeah it's here it's not horrendous but it is here it got me killed a couple of times when I misjudged the length of a dash and so on and so forth It's not awful in biomorph but I wish no games used it that's a me thing it's also probably very much if you've looked
at the end of Magnolia form you'll know that it's it's a lot of other people thing as well it's not a huge deal in this the Run backs are not very far but there is a corpse run system and I know a lot of people don't like this when you die you drop all of your currency in a pile fail to get it back before dying again and it is gone there is however an absolute abundance of fast travel in the game spend your cash regularly you know you can go back to town very easily
there are no big purchases to make in biomar I will spoil that for you you don't need to be saving up 1,800 currency for a lantern or anything like that if you've got 400 plaques or more head back to town spend your cash on an upgrade even if it's not something that you think you going to use just head back to town and spend it don't be carrying massive trunks of cash around because of the corps run system I I think there were three times in my entire playthrough where I lost cash because of this
and it was mostly because I stumbled into a new enemy and was surprised by how much damage that they did that's generally what happened so yeah those are my nitpicks such as it is final thoughts Bor superb experience it's got enough weapons and options to Warrant a second or third play through with a different build and I didn't encounter a single bug in my entire playthrough seriously the game frame rate was perfect I had no crashes no bugs in my entire playthrough the art style the features the systems they're not going to be for everybody
