hi hello we need to talk about question I get asked often every day and that is picking a niche do you need to pick a niche how is it pronounced that's another question if I get asked all the time I don't know first of all ignore Felix in the back my husband does Jujitsu he could beat your butt so let's talk about do you need to pick a niche in order to grow on social media some of you may or may not like this answer and some of you might be confused by my answer because
if you go back to Millie 2021 Milli 2021 and every video is like you need to pick a niche you need to Niche down and she's not necessarily wrong when watching those videos in context of what they are let me explain if you want to see rapid growth on Instagram yes you need to Niche down you need to pick a niche if you're a regular here on my channel this article will not come as a surprise to you this is the article that talks about Instagram's algorithm and how they created it reading through that article
you will learn that the algorithm creates account based embeddings to help refer and spread your content to the right people what that means is they'll categorize your account in a specific industry or Niche so when you Niche down you're only helping them even further push your content to the right people that's why if you're somebody who's multi-passionate you're posting about fashion home decor and food and health and you're posting about all the things Instagram does not know how to categorize you the algorithm was not created to categorize somebody in all of those things Therefore your
posts aren't reaching as many people as it could and you're kind of self-sabotaging yourself on Instagram specifically so niching down on Instagram yeah yeah you have to that's just the way that their algorithm was created they're not the sharpest tool in the shed when you compare Instagram's algorithm to YouTube or Tick Tock let's talk about Tick Tock do you need to Niche down in order to grow on Tick Tock no you don't will it help absolutely niching down will always help you because again it just makes it easier for the algorithm to understand who you
are what you post about and who to push your content to so when you're posting videos consistently in a specific topic easy peasy they know how to push your videos to with Tick Tock you don't need to Niche down because with tick tock's algorithm they actually study each individual video as opposed to doing account based embeddings so they're going to push your video to the right people depending on the topic of that video not all of your videos or what your account is all about but that one specific video ideally they're finding a way to
categorize it to push it to the right people so Tick Tock is probably the loosest algorithm where you don't have to need down in order to see success that's why you have a lot of creators that are lifestyle creators seeing great success in Rapid growth over there this isn't me saying you can just like post whatever the heck you want on Tick Tock whenever you want and just be like lazy about it like oh I'll post this day and this day I could do whatever I want like no if you want to grow and be
a full-time content creator obviously there's going to be strategy that comes into play when coming up with your content ideas their strategy that goes into it so don't discount strategy but I'm just saying topically niching down it's not 100 necessary on Tick Tock when I did my 30-day Tick Tock test I did Niche down for 30 days I posted consistently within a specific Niche and I grew like 20 000 followers in 30 days so niching down works but on the opposite the flip side of that ever since then I was like you know I don't
really want to pick a niche like I don't want to Niche down on Tick Tock so I post daily Vlogs of day in the lives as a full-time content creator I post social media updates every once in a while so a little bit more casual and the growth isn't as fast but I do see a steady increase of slow growth and a slow growth of a loyal Community can be so much more powerful than one video that goes viral getting a bunch of followers that won't even remember you after that one videos yeah slow growth
is okay before jumping into YouTube I do want to give you all a free resource from this video sponsor HubSpot if you're a business or you own a business and are running a business picking a niche is probably the first step but then what HubSpot created a business plan template that you can download completely for free which walks you through coming up with your company description your elevator pitch your core values how to properly set goals for this new business venture that you're going on different Financial projections everything that you would need to have a

unique way that you can Niche down on Tick Tock without niching down and that's what we're going to talk about YouTube YouTube is the platform that combines picking a niche and not picking a niche and really what it comes down to is YouTube you can absolutely pick a topic hone in on that topic do come content pillars have that strategy boom shakalaka you're skyrocketing your channel and seeing rapid growth absolutely that's possible that's how I grew my YouTube channel what I recommend for other people who want that rapid growth is to Niche down so that
you can Niche out because when you're talking to everyone you're talking to no one right that's that's the common YouTube advice that content creators give is like yes Niche Town blah blah blah but there's a unique way to do that where instead of niching down topically you focus on your unique perspective and you as a person so if you're somebody who is passionate about Fitness fashion house improvements and shopping on Amazon what you're going to do is approach all of those topics from your unique perspective so let's say you're a student all of your videos
are going to be as a student or life of a student fashion let's say Amazon fashion you're going to make a video that is like Amazon fashion under twenty dollars for college students right because the niche is who you are are you're a college student it's your perspective so that's your fashion video then you also have Home home decor maybe it's rent friendly home renovations for full-time college students or oh wait rent friendly dorm Renovations for college students living on campus so if you're passionate about home decor talk about how you can Implement home decor
in your dorm or Life as a college student right same thing with Fitness how are you incorporating Fitness into your life when you are a full-time college student so maybe the video is like how I find time to work out being a full-time college student or going to school at Duke University right by doing this not only are you niching down in a sense but you're also coming up with SEO friendly titles that can help you find your target audience being search friendly or understanding SEO is an important strategy no matter what platform you're on
whether it's Instagram SEO Tick Tock SEO or YouTube SEO being able to implement those keywords or keyword phrases can be powerful to the performance of your social media platforms instead of niching down to a specific topic you focus on your point of view and who you are as a person and it's going to help you find like-minded people so that's a really cool way that you Niche down without niching down being able to be multi-passionate multi-faceted because all of us as humans like we're so much more than a niche we don't just fit in a
box we have so many interests and passions and I think that social media is starting to expand into that where people are able to share more about their life than just a niche or topic and I've found myself feeling trapped in a box here on YouTube every once in a while so I feel like everybody knew me as the Instagram girl because I listened to those tips of hey you have to Niche down you have to Niche down and it really burnt me out and I hated when people would say oh you're that Instagram girl
oh you you give those Instagram tips and I'm like I have so much more than that like it's a compliment but also like a slap in the face because I was like ouch I do so much more than that but I know they were like complimenting me but my gut was telling me hey you were meant for more and there's more that you could offer to your audience so niching down is fantastic and it's a great strategy for growth but really you are so much more than a niche or a box that you have to
fit into you don't have to do any specific thing or talk about any specific thing if it's truly not resonating with you and I think that was probably my biggest mistake was I niched down for too long I think niching down in the beginning was great that's what helped my channel blow up and once I started to see traction or one video started to take off I should have started posting more casual videos I probably should have been like doing one day in the life Vlog every month you know something casual that was more me
and more Millie than another Instagram tip Instagram update so I kind of think it was me just like shooting myself in the foot being too scared to Niche out as I was creating my channel I guess that's what this video is is I just want to encourage you you don't have to fit in a box if you don't want to if you're somebody who maybe you're totally fine niching down being topically consistent fantastic you're probably going to see amazing success on any platform that you choose Instagram YouTube or Tick Tock but if you're somebody who's
like having a really hard time figuring out what you should Niche down to or what you should post I just want to encourage you you don't have to fit in a box maybe play around with two or three different niches and create videos all about those things for the first few weeks and see what feels true to you see what feels authentic to you and go from there just don't let this whole you need to pick a niche thing stop you from creating because that's gonna suck at the end of the day I believe in
strategy I would not be where I am today without focusing on strategy and picking a niche rotating content pillars being consistent providing value like it works all the tips and tricks that social media gurus and coaches teach you they work and they teach them because they work if there's something in the strategy part alert that is stopping you from making progress from taking a step forward in pursuing your dreams and creating content and pressing that record button you need to say screw it you need to just like be okay with not being perfect you know
what I mean it's okay to start somewhere and to not start perfect I sure as heck didn't start perfect and that perfectionism did hold me back for a long time so be okay with taking messy action and posting maybe something that feels okay like oh this kind of sucks but I did it I completed it I took action scary messy action but I did it at the end of the day you press record you pressed publish and I think that's the point that we all need to get to and then once you start becoming familiar
with that and starting to post and dabbling in a few different niches or topics you'll slowly find and feel who you are as a content creator online it took me a few times heck when I started I was telling Ghost Stories on an abandoned train I was doing boyfriend Tags by taking shots of Don Julio Tequila you know like I didn't know what I was doing and eventually I found my groove and you will find your groove too I believe in you even if there's nobody else in your life right now that you feel comfortable
or confident that will 100 support you you have a community here I found my community on YouTube you'll find your community too but I believe in you and I know that you could do it just start do yourself the favor do the future you one year from today do them the favor the honor of starting today they're going to be so proud at one year from today they're gonna be like dang I am so grateful that past Millie took that first step follow your joy bye
