all right we're live welcome to this free training so this training is going to be about what topics should I make content about so for background let's say you're just starting out you realize content is important you realize you want to be a Creator but you have no idea what content to make so you came to the right place let's continue now the first question are you creating for a personal brand or are you creating for a business if so there's really two paths if you don't yet have a business or an offer that you're
creating for eventually you want to but if you don't yet have that and you're you're basically growing a personal brand you start right here if you already have a business or an offer that you're looking to grow with content this still works but you can probably scrub through the video Until I put a green slide so just scrub scrub the slider through as soon as you see the green start there you can watch this part too if you want but this is going to be to help people figure out like what topics to make if
you already have a business or offer it'll be much easier for you to know where to start okay so if you're still watching right now this is you're building a personal brand through content there's really two paths to take path one is you can make content about something that you're actually interested in or path two you can make content in a space where there's lots of money to be made these are kind of the two paths I see people take now if it's up to me I have one of these two that I think you
should go down which one is that path one make stuff you're interested in why is path one usually the right path for one thing in order to make this really work you have to close the skill gap between where you are today and winning when I say skill Gap I'm talking about content you got to get good at making content in order to close the gap between where you are today and where you want to be you got to make a lot of content a lot of content okay so that's step one the only way
to stick with something long enough to get good enough to where you can actually win is to pick something you actually like learning about because when it comes to content if you pick something you don't really care about you're going to quit before you get good if you quit before you get good you're for sure going to fail so what you need to do the the whole point of this the whole trick psychological hack is to pick a topic that you'll want to work on long enough to where you get good enough to where you
start winning so for me what I did is I picked what I was interested in which was cult Brands and new tech pretty broad we'll get to that in a future video but that's what I started with now how do you find what you're interested in because some people right off the bat they know okay these are the three things that I really care about bang I'm G to make content about one of them but I talk to a lot of people and most people are like yeah I mean I'm interested in kind of in
a lot of things but I don't really know like what I would make content about so there's an exercise for this I invented called the walk around test so step one make a note on your phone called interesting I literally have a note called what's interesting on my phone walk around for a week and live your normal life talk to your friends talk to your partner talk to your co-workers just do the things that you normally would do now anytime you find yourself diving into a topic in conversation that you're interested in it could be
Sports it could be aliens whatever it is anytime you notice you're like oh wow we've kind of been talking about this for a while write that down in your notes like I said anything could be anything from video games the history whatever it is do not rule anything out just write that down after seven days you're going to have a list of five to seven things that you actually liked talking about so this is a way for you to like get out of your own head stop analyzing like what could work what couldn't work this
is actually what you like this is actually what you talked about you can do it for 14 days if you want Seven's probably enough so I would go through the list and I would cross out the things of those 5 to seven cross out the things that you can't imagine spending 24 hours in a row reading about like let's say you cleared your full schedule you had a Saturday you were alone and you had 24 hours is that thing on the list something that you would spend the entire day diving into if not cross it
off you should be left with two to three things or so that you would spend 24 hours on now of those two to three which do you pick you have to pick One Direction so One path is you just rotate cont at the very beginning you just rotate content across those two to three categories if you have like two to three left for me this was like Tech videos it was like fashion I mean I'm not not fashion but like I was reviewing like kith and emond door like Brands I like these are two completely
different things so I was just like rotating just trying to like play with trying different things the other path is just pick one bucket and then spend 14 days on that just on that so for me if it's Tech I'm going to spend two weeks only making Tech content I'm not going to look at anything else after two weeks I'm going to pop my head up and say did I really enjoy that could I imagine doing this a thousand more times if not I'm GNA pick something else if I could I'm going to keep going
so that's how you get to the topic now like I said if there's no clear standout winner like you have two to three things that you really enjoy but you can't you can't differentiate between them one thing you can do is try to imagine who the ideal viewer or like ideal customer would be and pick that group that you feel like you could relate to most so for example let's say the two topics that you were thinking about a lot talking about a lot that you have written down that you could spend 24 hours on
were casino games like gambling and baseball let's say like those were your two if you made Casino content you'd be attracting people that like gambling or like learning about casinos like that's kind of your ideal viewer your ideal customer group if you pick baseball you'd be attracting Baseball fans so which of those buckets do you feel like you could relate to more like if you had a room of a hundred or a thousand of them which one would you relate to more that's one way to kind of split the tie at this stage I don't
recommend you even think that far in advance because like I said the only goal is to get so good at the content that you can actually win you just want to pick something you're interested in you don't really have to think about the business or the community behind it but this is one way to break the tie now to continue that exercise again I don't recommend doing this but if you want to approach this with a business mind to continue the exercise imagine what brands would pay you to get in front of that crowd so
with the casinos if you have gamblers right let's continue the example who are the brands that would pay to get in front of those gamblers that or those Casino enthusiasts that you've attracted could be other casinos could be gambling sites could be alcohol Brands Etc right that's who's going to pay you you know for access to your audience on the baseball side the circle is a bit wider because it may still include gambling companies alcohol Brands but it could also include cpg Brands could include sunflower it could include Louisville Slugger right there's like it's a
broader Circle so if you're absolutely not sure how to break the tie between those one to two topics that you both really love you could use this like how big could the business be test but again I don't really like considering market value you or who the audience is at this really early stage cuz you just need to bridge the gap in terms of making good enough content for it to actually start resonating so just take that with the grain of Sal I wanted to say it because some people are going to say oh I
have three topics that I love equally which do how do I break the tie this would be one way to break the tie okay to build on what I just said why wouldn't you factor in kind of like Market size at the very early stage if you let yourself daydream about potential income like oh Mr Beast he makes so much money like I want to do exactly what he does I want the Lambos I want the Ferraris like I'm daydreaming about what it could be if you let yourself daydream about that you're going to end
up picking a topic that you like the least and you're going to end up quitting way before you ever get to that ideal State the second thing is it's hard to imagine what businesses could actually come from a niche topic so like let's say you like and I don't have this on the slide but let's say you like baseball cards and you were obsessed with it and you just made content on baseball cards you might think like okay well you know tops or some of these baseball card companies would pay me to advertise but who
knows like five years in the future there might be a whole new paradigm of Collectibles that you're like perfectly positioned because you have this collectible Market that you could be a co-owner of you just you don't have a good sense today of what businesses could come in the future and so the only way to get the audience to a size that it could support the business is to pick something you actually don't quit at and like doing and so this is another reason why I don't like daydreaming of the market size from the beginning if
you don't have a business already so like I said and I've said this a bunch but this is I'm trying to hammer this point home you got to pick something that you would make a 100 videos in a row about and not quit that's the goal okay so at this point so far if you've watched up to this point for these eight minutes you are a building a personal brand you eventually want to build a business on top of it you want to monetize but you don't have that business or that offer yet so we've
walked through how to come up with topics that you authentically like then how to narrow those topics down to find one topic to make content about so at this point you should be good to go I'm going to go forward on the section for people who have businesses and have offers now you can watch that if you want but if you don't want to watch any further in this video go find the next video that's about how to come up with content ideas within that topic now you have the topic let's now go to how
to come up with content ideas okay here's the green slide I'm going to leave it on for a second so you guys can scrub through perfect now if you're here and you're watching from here on this will be a quick video or the rest of this will be quick but you have an offer or you have a business already in place and you're looking to use content to either build your own personal brand to drive leads or like straight up just drive leads to the business this is much easier than the first part that I
talked about let me go back because you probably already have a vision for who that ideal customer group that's going to buy your product is and that's key so you're if you have that write that down if you don't have that you should have that if you have a business if you're just launching it maybe you don't have it but I would come up with that who is the ideal customer group because now your goal is to find out what content topics appeal to those people you just want to aggregate as many of those people
as possible build trust around your knowledge of whatever you're selling and then Infuse it occasionally so what I like to say is the type of content those people are going to be interested in will fit on a spectrum of entertainment to education that's a good way to codify the the content now I have a theory nobody's talked about this on the internet that I've seen but I have this theory that certain platforms like certain formats have a slant with respect to the typical user wanting entertainment or education so for example on short form if you
imagine like you're on Instagram res or you're on Tik Tok and you're scrolling most people do not want to be educated in that format they're on their couch they're just they just want to be entertained now if they come across something that's educational they'll bookmark it or like you know I love business so I kind of like to be entertained about business stuff and of course it's going to leak value of education but the the slant is towards entertainment now for podcast and email the slant is towards education nobody signing up for an email newsletter
looking to be entertained they really want to be educated for YouTube it's kind of a mix and So based on who your core customer is and the content channels and format you plan on making you should brainstorm content topics that fit within the entertainment verse education spectrum and we're going to go over that in future videos but it's important to note that depending on which platforms you're trying to build for so here's a quick example let's say you have a business where you sell fake plants you know your core customer group is probably 22 to
40 years old they have medium to high discretionary income they like nature like you've kind of identified that's the core group so now what you want to figure out is how do I make content to attract that group to me to build a following and Affinity with that group so I can sell more fake plants if I were going with short form video Instagram Tik Tok YouTube shorts Snapchat I would make content series that were something like curating the best interior living room inspiration so like real fast kind of Carousel type content or best ways
to set up your home with with fake plants or is this plant real or fake like these are all entertainment leaning content obviously you can educate them kind of in there hidden but you really want to focus on entertainment now through YouTube or a podcast I'd make I'd make content that was more like here's why these five species of fake plants are best to have in the home or like I would go do like archit seual digress tour with someone famous and like talk about the plants like I'd go real long form trying to educate
like oh why do you pick this plant versus this plant versus this plant right so there's a distinction now you probably want to be everywhere but if you haven't started making content at all you need to pick one format and go I have other videos in this community about what topics to make and then what channels to pick but I wanted to to walk through that so just in closing the goal of this video was to figure out what topics should I make content about if you're building a personal brand now you have that idea
the walk around test you can get a list narrow that down pick a topic if you have a brand you have an offer you're trying to make content for that you have a little bit more clarity around kind of the the platform Slants and the way to think about what types of topics to use to attract that core customer group all right that's it for this video make sure to jump into the next one we'll keep building on this knowledge peace
