if you want to start tracking your sports and your health using modern technology and get a good deal at the same time then this video is for you Black Friday is probably going to give you some great deals but even if you're watching this video after that there will still be many good deals however no matter the price it's important to choose a device that is reliable and accurate in this video I'll use actual data and testing to show you my top recommendations and which devices I would pick up myself we'll focus on heart rate
GPS sleep and health tracking which will give you a full picture and allow you to s the best device possible at the best possible price be aware that I've rejected most companies that offered me quite lucrative affiliate links because I just didn't think that products were good enough however there are three that I did accept and I will mention them in this video in addition to many other devices because I believe all these products are actually good and I use them myself on a daily basis I just mentioned this because I wanted to be completely
transparent with you now the good thing is that you will also get an extra discount if you use those links now I split this video into several parts that cover the following topics heart rate G BS sleep Health all around top performers and honorable mentions and I give recommendations for each let's start with the heart rate tracking performance specifically heart rate tracking during Sports this is actually a very hard task for smart watches because they have to measure a very weak signal basically a smart watch or Smart Band for that matter tries to measure changes
in blood flow using a flashing green light shining on your wrist and it's doing that while you're moving a lot this creates a ton of noise in the signal which means it's still looking for a tiny blood flow signal in a sea of noise still some devices manage to do this quite well so let's check out the data on my personal top picks by the way I've turned on channel memberships in case you want to support the channel but more on that later and as always we'll use an ECG chest trap as a reference which
is generally one of the most reliable ways to measure your heart rate in this case I use the polar h10 and let's start with the Smartwatch as for many generations has been the best heart rate Tracker out there the Apple watch and in this case the Apple Watch series 10 I think it's important to first explain what you can see in this plot right here so long the horizontal we have the different sports I tested Apple Watch series 10 for so spinning indoor cycling biking running indoor running outdoor and weightlifting then on the vertical axis
we have the correlation with the reference device basically want that value to be as high as possible and the results for the Apple Watch series 10 in this case are marked with a red line and a red dot so you can always see where that is and all the black dots are the other devices I've tested for that sport so let's look for instance at spinning you can see there's quite some variation in correlation and the Apple Watch series 10 has an almost perfect correlation at 1.0 so the correlation is this first value we see
for each of the sports and the second metric is the percentile that it's in now the Apple watch is in the 99th percentile basically meaning it's better than 99% of other watches I tested so it's really amongst the top 1% so a really good watch for cycling indoor for biking we see a slightly lower correlation at 0.99 but still more or less perfect and in this case it's in the top 97% of watches also for running indoors in the 100 percentile so basically the best watch out there for running outside we can also see it's
one of the top performers with a correlation of 0.98 so very close to one which is the maximum value you can get and it's at the 93rd percentile so it's really in the top 7% of watches and we see something similar for weightlifting it's in the 922nd percentile with a correlation of 0.98 I should mention here that in basically all cases where the series 10 isn't the best watch out there basically one of the other Apple watches did just a tiny bit better so Apple watch are really amongst the top performers in this overview and
the slightly heavier Apple watch ultra generation 2 actually also did very good though a tiny bit worse probably because that added weight which makes it move more on the wrist and you get a slightly worse signal you will notice there's one fewer sport here so didn't test it for running indoors but we can see that for running Outdoors it's doing okay they're not amazing so it's in the 66 percentile but for the other sports it's really good it's in the 89th percentile for spinning with a correlation of 0.99 so almost perfect for biking slightly less
good than the Apple Watch series 10 with a correlation of 0.96 though the question would be is that actually a significant difference in this case at the 87 percentile and for weightlifting it's doing quite good with a correlation of 0.98 at the 97 percentile though for weightlifting if the Apple watch has trouble detecting your heart rate it will just stop detecting it which doesn't negatively affect the correlation but it does mean there's some Dropout in heart rate values but of course the Apple Watch series 10 and Ultra 2 aren't that cheap so you could either
go for an older generation watch so Apple Watch series 8 or 9 which will likely do about the same as the Apple Watch series 10 or you can actually go for the Apple watch SE so the 2022 version which also has a really good performance so here we're looking at spinning biking walking and weightlifting and as you can see for spinning it's one of the best performers out there with a correlation of 1.0 also for biking it's doing really well with a correlation of 0.97 at the 90th percentile for walking it's also doing really good
almost perfect and then for weightlifting it's also one of the top of performers so it's a cheaper watch it is much more affordable and still has very good heart rate tracking but let's now look at one of the main competitors of the Apple watch the Google pixel watch now both of these are exclusive to their platform so with an iPhone you cannot use a pixel watch and with an Android device you cannot use an Apple Watch luckily since generation three of the pixel watches is also a really good heart rate tracker so you can see
it for spinning so cycling indoors it's really one of the best devices out there similar to what we just saw it has a correlation of 1.0 and it's basically spot on similar to the Apple watches now for biking outside it's also really good with a correlation of 0.97 and it's at the 91st pertile but it's really amongst the top performance and it would be good enough for me in any case now I also tried it for running I couldn't load that in this overview but that was also one of the top performers out there and
for weightlifting it was okay at a correlation of 0.91 but for weightlifting in general I recommend using ECG chest strap because even the Apple watches which have the best correlation for weightlifting have a lot of dropouts so in general there's no watch that has no problems with weightlifting so for that I would just use an ECG chest strap but the pixel watch 3 based on the correlation isn't terrible I wouldn't use it for this though but for any other type of cardio exercise especially it's really good so running outside spinning and biking it was really
good so on Android is one of my top picks if you're especially looking for heart rate tracking and here the generations are different so here we have the pixel watch 3 and the pixel Watch 2 actually did a bit worse than the pixel watch 3 so here we have the results for the pixel Watch 2 so the previous generation now this is doing quite well for cycling indoor not quite as good as the newer generation but still really good at a correlation of 0.97 for biking it's already a bit worse at a correlation of 0.9
so we saw a much better result for the pixel watch 3 for running it's actually doing quite well at a correlation of 0.96 at the 83rd percentile and for weightlifting again it isn't very good so here you can definitely see an improvement in heart rate tracking from the pixel Watch 2 to the pixel watch 3 and the pixel watch one is a device I would not recommend so let's take a look so here we have the results for the pixel watch generation one and you can see that the correlation is quite low for cycling indoors
also for cycling Outdoors you can see it's at the 11th percentile for cycling indoors so really not good that means that almost 90% of all the devices I tested was better than the pixel watch one for cycling indoors also for cycling Outdoors it really isn't that good at the 55th percentile so about half of the devices are doing better also for running it's not that great so here I would definitely recommend the pixel Watch 2 over the pixel watch one and if you have the money to invest I would definitely recommend getting a pixel watch
3 instead this will give you even better performance so for the pixel watch there I would really recommend checking out the pixel watch 3 but if you don't have that kind of money to spend and you still want to use the Fitbit app which is getting a lot better recently you could actually select the Fitbit charge 6 instead so for cycling indoors it's not doing bad at all at a correlation of 0.94 though here in this case many watches are doing better so the fibit charge six is at the 52nd percenti meaning that about half
the watches did better the all of these are doing quite well honestly and it's for cycling Outdoors where it's doing especially well compared to the competition also considering its price it's at the 82nd percentile meaning that only about 20% of the watches did better and it really has quite a high correlation at 0.93 so I'm quite happy with that for running it's also not that bad but also not amazing here it does show some issues I would say though I have to retest it as well still a correlation of 0.87 isn't that bad and also
for weightlifting it's not disappointing for the price with a correlation of 0.9 and the good thing is you can use the fibit charge six on both Android and iOS and it isn't that expensive Huawei devices especially those from the GT series tend to have quite good hard rate tracking as well so here I'm actually looking at the previous generation the GT4 which you can probably pick up at a quite decent price and as you can see it's doing quite well so for cycling indoors the correlation is almost perfect at 0.99 and it's at the 82nd
percentile for biking it's also not bad at all with the correlation of 0.92 at the 81st percentile also for running outside is performing quite good with a correlation of 0.95 so for all these exercises it's doing better than much of the competition now for a weightlifting it isn't amazing with a correlation of 0.83 but as I mentioned before in general for that I would just use an ECG chest wrap and if you want to go even a bit cheaper the Huawei bands are much cheaper option and they still have decent heart rate tracking now the
recently released Huawei band 9 didn't do amazing on me but still quite good so for cycling indoors a correlation of 0.96 is pretty decent then for biking it showed some issues with a correlation of 0.83 at the 62nd percentile so about 40% of the other devices I tested it better but then again for running it's really quite good with a correlation of 0.99 and it's at the 998th percentile so this is looking quite good again for weightlifting a correlation of 0.9 is at the border but again I wouldn't recommend it and if you want to
go even cheaper the previous generation the Hua bent 8 did even better in my testing and you can probably pick it up for a pretty decent price the Huawei devices in general aren't easy to pick up in America so you have to see what's available as you can see for spinning it has a correlation of 0.96 so pretty good also for biking outside a correlation of 0.91 might be good enough for many of you and for weightlifting I wouldn't recommend it so the W went eight or nine are pretty decent choices for the price now
the whoop strap 4.0 recently got a heart rate update and it's really doing quite well so the firmware really helped improve the heart rate tracking performance for spinning we have a correlation of 0.98 so really good and you can really see it's amongst the top devices right here for biking outside it's pretty decent with a correlation of 0.89 at the 73rd percentile so not the absolute best device out there but as you will see throughout this video the whoop strap 4.0 is basically a very solid device in any category I tested in so it doesn't
stand out in most of the things it does but it's just super solid and complete so in that sense I really like the whoop strap 4.0 again for weightlifting I wouldn't use it but overall with the new update it's a really decent heart rate tracker here I do have to mention I test it while wearing it on my biceps so I still have to retest it while wearing it on the wrist finally I do have to mention Garmin devices generally tend to struggle a bit on me so here you can see for instance the results
for the Garmin 4 and a 165 which is on the lower end of their devices but I really like the price quality ratio for this device as you can see the correlation for spinning is pretty okay at 0.93 at about the 50th percentile but this would still be good enough for me in many cases for biking outside it didn't do well on me so this is something I would use it for then again for running outside the sport you're probably going to use it for it does really well with a correlation of 0.97 being around
the 9th percentile and again for weightlifting I also wouldn't use this one in general I really like the Garmin ecosystem and I'll talk about that later so I actually do use Garmin devices for tracking my heart rate while cycling outside but in that case I connect an external heart rate monitor so that would be my general recommendation if you get any garment device and you want the most accurate heart tracking just get an external HG chest strap with it Garmin has a really good ecosystem where you can easily connect all these different devices and that
really helps get more accurate heart rate tracking out of your 4 and A1 165 or even a 4 and a 965 for instance talking about Garmin if Garmin devices turn out to be a bit too expensive for you corals is actually an alternative so I really liked our Pace 3 for instance this did quite decently in my original testing I would say nothing amazing but again they have a good ecosystem where you can easily connect different devices so for spinning in this case the coral Space 3 did quite okay and it's close to the 4
and a 165 for biking it was okay though it definitely did show some issues with a correlation of 0.85 not as bad as what we saw for the 4 and a 165 but not great and then for running it really did well with a correlation of 0.98 now I do have to say I retested it recently and there did a bit worse so I'm not sure what's going on here but in general I also like the coral ecosystem it's not quite as developed yet as the Garmin ecosystem but already quite good and you can again
easily connect many other devices to it so again an external heart rate monitor is recommended but the reason I might still get a Garmin or a corus because they both have great battery life and also good GPS tracking by the way if you really care about heart rate tracking and you care a bit less about Comfort an ECG chest strap is probably the most reliable way to measure your heart rate this doesn't rely at all on some pesky blood flow signal but directly measures the electrical activity of your heart which is a much cleaner and
clearer signal next let's take a look at the Sleep stage tracking but before doing that it would really help the channel if you could subscribe since it turns out that most most of you aren't subscribed at the moment and I'm trying to get to the point where over half the people watching are subscribed also liking and commenting really helps me get noticed by the algorithm and also by brands that sent me watches but back to the testing I think that many of us are more and more aware of how important good sleep is and a
watch that tracks your sleep stages correctly can be one tool in Your Arsenal to help you track your sleep patterns now even without a health tracker you can improve your sleep just by giving your body enough time to sleep not using your phone before bed and generally creating a good sleep hygiene however I like to get a rough indication of my sleep patterns over time to help me keep track of my progress and also I just find it cool to track this I've heard many devices out there are actually really bad at this and there's
only a few that I would consider good enough in my opinion so let's take a look at the Sleep stage tracking test and make sure that you can invest in device that is actually able to provide you with some valuable data but before doing so I have a request for some of you as you might know I'm a full-time scientist and I run this channel on the side which basically means I spent most of my weekends and evenings on these videos after after a few years of doing that all alone I realized I might need

last few years where I compare all these watches against different reference devices so the devices marked in blue purple were tested against polography which is the gold standard and sleep stage tracking and the devic is marked in green we tested against the zMAX EEG device which can also measure your brain waves and the devic is not marked in any color we tested against another EG device called The Dream 2 now I had to use different reference devices for different practical reasons but overall the patterns you see are the same no matter what reference device I
used along the horizontal axis we have the average agreement with the different sleep stages so deep sleep light sleep and R sleep and sometimes also include a weit time and on the vertical axis is the agreement of the worst sleep stage so the B agreement to more to the top right devices and as you can see there's a big difference in performance between these devices some are doing really well the ones here on the top right and some are doing really poorly like the ones here on the bottom left and as you can see some
devices that are generally doing pretty poorly are devices from for instance some Chinese manufacturers like xiaomi and Huawei they're just not made for detailed sleep stage tracking also Garmin and polar both more sports watches aren't that great at sleep stage tracking it's only when you get to ride here that I would trust the Sleep stage tracking of different devices so for instance Google and Fitbit products tend to be pretty decent at sleep stage tracking fibit and Google use this same algorithm they've been using this for a long time and it's been pretty stable and pretty
good so for instance the recently released pixel watch 3 but also pixel Watch 2 are doing about the same I expect there's no real difference in their performance and they're pretty decent the same goes for the whoop strap so the whoop strap 3.0 but also the whoop strap 4.0 both of these are doing quite well and probably about the same they're in sort of the second tier of devices together with these Google products and also the withing Sleep analyzer is doing quite okay so all of these devices right here which is basically mostly Google and
fibit devices whoop and also the withing Sleep analyzer are in sort of the second tier of devices they would be good enough in my opinion for Sleep stage tracking so be it the fibit chart 6 the whoop strap 4.0 or the pixel Watch 2 or 3 all of them are doing quite well at sleep stage tracking so I would find these quite use ful and for many people this will be good enough though there are some devices that are doing even a bit better at least on me these are especially Apple watches they tend to
be very good now the aura ring is an interesting one it does tend to be a bit more to the right here on average though it still has a worse sleep stage that is not a lot better than the other devices here in scientific testing as I'll show you in a moment Ora tend to do a bit better than Google and Fitbit for instance and also than but on me it's just a little bit better than these devices now the ones that are doing really good on me are for instance the Apple watch so different
Apple watches are probably all doing about the same so you have different generation Apple watches right here and also the eight sleep podt 4 and three are performing really well on me these are really relatively expensive devices and have a lot of other features as well and I really love this device I use it every day and it's made a huge difference in My Sleep Quality but it is the most expensive device in this overview by a mile I would say so it's not for everyone also the nucoa app it's now called Sleep 2 I
think is also doing really well this is really designed by Sleep scientists that your sleep but again this is also a subscription service which basically only tracks your sleep so it's really specialized for that so it really depends if you would just be interested on this but all these results are just results on me what about scientific papers do they give the same results well to compare that let's first switch this overview to an overview where we're just looking at the different brands so if instead we color the different brands in the overview and here
I just focused on the brands where there's also scientific studies you can see there's quite a clear pattern so on me Apple watches do the best followed by the aura ring different FIB devices to whoop strap and Garmin devices and polar devices are not doing that great and a lot worse is xiaomi so this Chinese brand so that's sort of the general ranking right here but this is just based on testing on me what if we look at the scientific literature where they often test it on many more devices also over many more nights well
then you get this o right here so again I call it a different brands in the same color as in the overview on the left and we see basically the same pattern so Garmin polar and xiaomi are by far the worst this is followed by the second tier of devices so the whoop strap and Fitbit also the older generation Ora ring with the old algorithm and then in this case the best is the Apple watch and the aura ring 3 so generally very similar to my results only the oring Generation 3 is doing a bit
better in this testing and a bit worse in my testing there's actually the oring generation 4 now which I'm still in the process of testing but I don't expect any major differences there I expected the Generation 3 and the generation 4 or ring will basically perform the same so this really shows you which are the good or great devices and which are the poor devices for me any of these Brands so whoop Fitbit aura or apple would be good enough but for Sleep stage tracking polar Garmin and xiaomi would not be good enough and then
as I showed you before in my testing I also included a few other brands where there wasn't any scientific literature like eight sleep and the Sleep 2 app and these are also doing really great I would say about the same as the aura ring and Apple watch or maybe even a bit better for Sleep 2 and these also appear to be great sleep stage trackers in my testing so to summarize in my opinion if you get any device from Google Fitbit the whoop strap the aura ring the eight sleep PT or the Sleep 2 app
you're getting pretty good sleep stage tracking after for Sleep stage tracking I would personally avoid polar Garmin and xiaomi for instance now one thing to mention here that probably the most important thing to track is your total time of sleep and your total time in bed and this is something most devices can at least track to some degree especially your total time trying to sleep in bed so as a start if you just have a Mii band maybe that's good enough to already start optimizing your sleep and just make sure that you give your body
enough opportunity to even get that sleep but if instead you want to track your sleep stages you really need to take care to select the correct brand now I think that's pretty clear based on these tests it's usually brand dependent and you can see that some brands are really good at sleep stage tracking and some aren't that great one thing to be aware of though is that most of the studies I use for the last graph are based on mostly healthy normal sleepers and there's generally also a focus in research on younger mostly white or
sometimes Asian individuals so the question is if these results translate to everyone in general population if you're a young to middle-aged white male you probably have the best chance of This research being representative of you also though the testing I did on myself includes many more wearables this was just done on me so again results May Vary to some degree on others again youngish white males are probably the most likely to get similar results still I do expect that the general ranking of devices will be more or less the same also for a more diverse
population 2 all of that said let's move on to the next tests now one important thing we haven't talked about yet is GPS tracking performance now I would say there's basically a top three in terms of devices that are good at GPS tracking for me the number one is generally Garmin gar has a bunch of devices and usually their middle to higher end devices are pretty good at GPS tracking even with this slow pace it's kind of hard to both present and cycle at the same time but for me I generally use Garmin for GPS
tracking for me this generally means different epic and Phoenix devices I use both the Phoenix 7 Phoenix 7 Pro now the Phoenix 8 and also the end3 at the moment I'm testing these I think all of them are pretty decent choices okay let's stop for a second I think in terms of devices being on sale especially during Black Friday probably the previous generation so the Phoenix 7 Fenix 7 Pro will be very good choices considering the price I'm still testing the Phenix 8 which is probably a little bit better but is it that much better
I'm not sure now in terms of the other two Brands I recommend for GPS tracking Apple watches are generally very good so overall in terms of tracking Apple watches are one of the best devices out there I'll talk later about the downsides of Apple watches but in terms of tracking also GPS are generally pretty good probably a later generation but even the previous generation will be good enough for most people and finally I also really like coros for GPS tracking I recently tested the pace Pro which was really good but also the pace 3 did
a really good job and probably you can find that one on sale but let's quickly go back to the office and I'll show you some data in terms of GPS tracking now we're back in the studio and we always want to back up any claims with actual data so let's take a look at some GPS testing that I did the way I test GPS tracking performance is by cycling the same route several times and if the GPS tracks overlap the GPS tracking is more likely to be accurate however if there's a big deviation between the
tracks it's more likely the GPS tracking performance isn't very good and let's start with Garmin which is generally one of the best GPS trackers out there and in this case I want to start with what is at least a relatively affordable garment the four on a 165 and here you can see an overview for a bunch of rides I did with it so the green markers indicate the moment that I started a ride so there were total of six rides and as you can see I always started my ride right here or right here and
the fact that the markers are so close to together right here means the Garmin watch quite quickly acquired the signal so the 4 and a 165 was really reliable at quickly acquiring the signal which is good because some watches take a while but the next thing is to look at the consistency between these routes so let's take a look as you can see there's a bit of deviation with one of the lines here in the beginning but otherwise looking really consistent also right here it looks really good apparently I had to take some detours so
here we only have a few tracks left so there's a bit of deviation right here but I think I might have actually taken a slightly different route here then here again one of the lines is deviating a bit but overall this is looking really good really consistent always following along with the route and also right here we see a bit of deviation but many watches perform a lot worse right here then here I actually stopped at the McDonald's one time so there's a bit of deviation right there but that makes sense and then basically almost
until the end it's looking really good there's a bit of deviation right here and we often see that here near the radio station so maybe the signals from the radio station are interfering with it but overall as you can see this looks relatively consistent I'm quite happy with this performance so even a lower tier Garmin device is doing quite well but let's now take a look at some other Garmin devices and in this case I don't don't want to look at the most premium devices that are out there right now so for instance the Phoenix
8 I want to go one generation back so the Phoenix 7 this is more likely to be on sale so I really believe you shouldn't always need to buy the latest device probably one generation back has a lot of qualities as well so in this case we're looking at the Garmin Phoenix 7 which is one of the topof thee line Garmin watches and as you can see again the signals were acquired really quickly and if we go along the Route the GPS tracking performance looks quite good there's a bit of deviation right here but overall
not bad super good right here also right here looks quite good maybe a bit of deviation right here here it's not amazing there's quite some deviation here still looking quite okay here it's actually not looking that good this is also testing I did about a year and a half ago so maybe some software updates have improved it but still looking good enough for me so you can see that even older generation watches are pretty consistent also right here maybe a bit of deviation right here again at the radio tower but overall this is likely good
enough for many of you so generally a relatively consistent result though another one to consider here is not to get the Garmin Phoenix 7 but the 7 Pro which is not the latest device but they should have even better GPS tracking than the Garmin Fenix 7 so those are what are now probably more affordable Garmin devices compared to the topof the- line either newer products or higher end products from Garmin so those already have pretty good GPS tracking results now you can go a bit more expensive where you probably even get better results but is
that really worth it for you that's something to consider consider so I'm actually testing the Enduro 3 and Phenix 8 at the moment so stay tuned for those results but for now I think both of the ones I mentioned before so the Phoenix 7 also the Phoenix 7 Pro and also the 4 and the 165 will probably be good enough for many people but let's next take a look at some Coral devices now Coral is sort of a direct competitor to Garmin they produce very similar looking watches so more for sports people and I really
like their products as well so here we're looking at the results for the coral Space 3 which is a relatively affordable running and if you look at the GPS tracking performance we can see that the signals were acquired really quickly so that's good again very consistent then if we go along the route GPS quality looks really good I would say so one time I took a different route here but if we continue to look at the remaining signals it looks quite good yes there is a bit of deviation also right here here there's a bit
of deviation of one signal but overall looking really consistent also right here now there is a bit of deviation right here I'm probably near the radio station so not perfect but again this would likely be good enough for me compared to many other devices this is really quite consistent and looking quite good again it's not perfect but I would say for me this performance is good enough but let's take a look at another chus product as well so here we actually have the results for the newly released Coral Pace Pro which is a much nicer
screen than the pace 3 and I actually only did two rides with that so far but we can look at the consistency still so in this case I left from this location right here as you can see the signals were acquired really quickly again then if you look at the consistency between the signals this looks really good honestly really consistent signals really close together most of the route a bit of deviation right here still looking really good right here you can almost not see the two lines right here still looking really good as you can
see this is true for basically most of the ride so generally again really consistent for most of the ride only again here near the radio tower is there a bit of deviation actually had to cycle on this part because there's construction right here but as you can see only there we see a bit of deviation over overall really consistent performance again a good GPS tracker so those are some Coral devices you can use both Garmin and coral on both IOS and Android so no matter what phone you have either will work but what about the
Apple watch unfortunately you can only use this if you have an iPhone but this a GPS tracking any good well here you can see I did a bunch of rides with it and it acquired the signal really quickly which is good then let's next look at the consistency between them as you can see generally very consistent most rides are really close to each other there's only one deviating r here but of course it did a lot of ride so there will be more chance for deviations then going along the Route we can see it's really
consistent and I wasn't clear this is actually the Apple watch Ultra 2 so the top-of-the-line Apple watch and as you can see it has really consistent signals looking really good A little bit of deviation right here but overall looking really good here it's not looking so good so there is definitely some deviation right here again there's also more potential for deviation because it did more testing still this here doesn't look amazing but the other ones are are quite good then here a bit of deviation still relatively consistent here there is some deviation this is a
bit worrying so there may be some taller buildings right here which makes it a bit worse so in this case here I think potentially Garmin and corls it a bit better but here again really consistent generally Apple watches tend to be pretty solid devices again near the radio tower there's a bit of deviation right here but afterwards again really consistent so overall pretty solid result maybe slightly worse than coral and Garmin though it's difficult to quantify I really have to think of a way to do that overall I would be happy enough with these results
but of course the Apple watch Ultra 2 is really expensive around 1,000 bucks or so so let's take a look at some more budget friendly options so here we have the results for the Apple Watch series 9 so one generation back you can probably get a pretty good deal on this and it honestly isn't that different from the Apple Watch series 10 the upgrades have been relatively small over the last few Generations so let's now take a look at the GPS tracking performance again the signal is acquired really quickly all of the green markers are
really close together and if you look at the consistency between them it's pretty decent there's one deviating right here but overall looking really good super consistent right here also right here it looks really good here also a little bit of deviation but not that much to complain about honestly super consistent right here also right here it stays really consistent this is potentially even looking a bit better than what we saw for the ultra 2 before though I'm not sure if that's really a significant difference I really like this performance again a bit of deviation right
here still looking pretty good especially here in the radio house there's quite some deviation but after that again really consistent so overall looking at all these signals as a whole I'm quite happy with this performance generally very consistent results so I expect any recent Apple watch you pick up will give good enough results in GPS tracking at least in my opinion and to close off just for reference let's take a look at two devices that didn't do that great in my testing and I want to start with the fibit Versa 4 now this I tested
on my way to work and I always started my right on the corner right here and as you can see we don't see any green markers and that's because it took quite some time to acquire the signal so two times it was acquired right here and I think there might even be a third signal yes that's right here so it really took some time for it to acquire the signal there's even a fourth one I forgot about that one and as you can see there's a big deviation between the signals it looks okay consistent right
here I would say but then again a lot of deviation just going through buildings and this is what po GPS tracking looks like so this is just to give you some context compared to what we just saw and let's take a look at one more example of poor GPS tracking and that's displayed right here this is the fossil Gen 6 a watch I really wasn't that happy with and as you can see there's a lot of noise in the signal a lot of deviation between them it really mostly just looks quite noisy I would say
it just jumps all over the place the signals are quite far apart and also going up and down and left and right quite a bit so this would be the kind of GPS tracking I wouldn't be happy with with yes they're roughly following along but there's quite a bit of deviation really clearly going through buildings all over the place so this is the kind of performance I wouldn't be happy with whereas what we saw for Garmin coral and apple I would be happy enough with but I just wanted to show you the raw signals as
well so you can get some Impressions all of the devices from the top three brands I mentioned in my opinion will likely have good enough GPS tracking for most of you at least based on my testing so it really depends on what else you're looking for in a watch which exact one you should select next let's take a look at Health tracking performance and which device you should choose here partially depends of course on the quality of the data collected but what sets apart a good device from an amazing device mostly depends on the app
they've developed I personally use three devices and apps myself every day and I think there's also a fourth device I think is worth mentioning here all of these devices have good data quality based on my testing and it's the appdate provide that sets them apart from the competition the first one I want to mention is the aura ring I think Aura currently has one of the best apps out there there where each morning you can clearly see your health statistics they provide an overview with for instance their Readiness score and their sleep score which gives
you a quick overview of your current state and if you want to dive deeper you can very easily see what metrics are off during the night or maybe if you've been too stressed during the day I should mention that I still have to test that daytime stress feature so I cannot really comment on that performance but in general for other metrics Ora has always performed very well and I think they probably have the best or maybe one of the best apps out there they also have really great sleeve stage tracking performance as we saw before
however one thing where they're not doing very well is tracking heart rate during workouts I think it's inherently just very hard to track your heart rate on the finger when you're being very active and on me at least this has been very bad with all the ring Brands I've tested so far now if you do decide to get an aura ring I generally recommend searching for a discount link online but if you cannot find one it would be greatly appreciated if you use my affiliate link below as we saw before the whoop strap is actually
much better at tracking your workout it's amongst the upper middle class of device when it comes to heart rate tracking during Sports and in addition to this the quality of the whoop app is very similar to that of the a ring currently actually slightly prefer the strap over the new aing app though both are just very good very similar to the aing first provides you with a quick glance at your health stats and if anything is off you can easily dig quite a bit deeper the quality of the nighttime measurements is generally also very good
with whoop and we also saw earlier in this video that the wo trap is in the second tier of devices when it comes to sleep stage tracking so pretty good there as well this makes it overall one of the most versatile and complete Sports and Health trackers in my personal opinion however it does lack built-in GPS and that's of course also true for the ordering so that might be a deal breaker for some of you now if you do decide to get a whoop strap there's a very good Black Friday deal going on with my
affiliate link below and even after the Black Friday sale you can still get the best discount available the third Health rcking device in this list I use every day myself is actually the only device that I own that actively improves my Sleep Quality it's the eight sleep B 4 ultra now this is a car you put around your mattress and it actively cools and heats each side of the bed separately this has actually been a lifesaver to stay cool in the summer because we don't have air conditioning here and you can independently set it to
different temperatures for each person and in Winter I actually like to fully open my window for fresh air and the eight sleep pot actually helps me and a potential partner stay war in that case the hle pot Ultra can also raise the head of the bed ever so slightly when I start to snore to help me stop and when I do stop it lowers it again afterwards but that's just what it can do but it also needs to be good at sleep stage tracking and auto tracking and it actually did great in my testing in
terms of health and sleep stage tracking and it does all of this without you having to wear anything now if you want to know more about that testing check out this video up here and if you want to know about the Sleep stage tracking that I mentioned earlier in this video now the eight sleep pot has had the greatest positive impact on my sleep out of any of the devices I own and I've been using it since generation 2 and we're now already at Generation 4 of course there's also some downsides to each device and
I've experienced two main downsides so so far one it only tracks my health if I'm actually sleeping at home so if you're traveling a lot or moving between your partner and your own home you might get a lot of missing data and two is really quite expensive depending on the exact model you get it will likely set you back anywhere between $2500 to a little over $4,000 so that means you really need to save some money where you can if you want to get the best possible discount I know of use my affiliate Link in
description below that really helps support the channel as well however if you cannot afford this don't worry there all sorts of Cheaper hacks that could help you regulate your core temperature before bed like taking showers at a certain temperature now the final device I want to mention is the Google pixel watch 3 this has been surprisingly good in my latest testing it has good heart rate tracking pretty decent sleep stage tracking and the Fitbit app currently isn't bad at all Google actually seems to be catching up more and more with for instance Aura and whoop
in terms of the general app experience and if you're on Android this is a very solid choice if you want to know more about how the pixel watch 3 performs check out this video up here now if you're interested in specific features so far in this video I've tried to list pretty clearly what are my top performance based on actual data however which devices are the all around most complete devices well if you just care about the data quality then an Apple Watch is probably best and all recent Apple watches will probably perform more or
less the same however the default apps that present the data to you that come with the Apple watch aren't great the health app itself just shows you your data without much context the new vitals app though is a step in the right direction but not close to the competition yet honestly if you do want to know more check out this video up here on Android I would say that the Google pixel watch 3 is a pretty good choice overall only General Health section is still slightly behind Aura and woop in my opinion but overall it's
a very good device the whoop strap is a great allrounder with pretty solid data quality though the Apple watch and pixel watch would be slightly better there in my opinion but the whoop strap in my opinion still has a better app and better data presentation to close off let's talk about some honorable mentions specifically I need to mention Garmin devices here I think the Garmin ecosystem is pretty amazing and I use different Garin devices myself for my sports tracking every day I have my smart trainer watt meters temperature sensors connected to my watches and I
use an external heart rate strap to track my heart rate with that complete setup and the fact that Garmin generally has great GPS tracking I would say getting a Garmin watch can be a very good choice if you care about gu GPS you want amazing battery life you like the ecosystem where you can connect most any too you don't mind wearing a chest strap for heart rate and sleep tracking is just something you don't care about much specifically for Garmin devices when you want to get a good deal you probably want to look at the
previous generation watches so something like a phoenix 7 or Phoenix 7 Pro or even a newer one like the Garmin 165 are just good and solid choices and if you want to go even a bit cheaper Coral would be an other brand to look at they also have a good ecos system though I think they're still slightly behind Garmin in some regards but they're really catching up now if you do decide to get a chorus device a Garmin a whoop strap an aura ring an acle B 4 another device or anything at all on Amazon
