we just watched one of the most unique experiences in the history of sports and I'm talking about the Caitlyn Clark experience she was the biggest star in college sports she took that mantle uh in uh a in March and April of 2023 she's now the biggest star in college sports and she's playing at Iowa and then the clock rolls into the NCAA tournament and by the NCAA tournament I start I was like this girl is the biggest star in sports Caitlyn Clark's WNBA Journey just hit a major speed bump the rookie sensation who dominated college
basketball couldn't save her team from a playoff exit but here's the thing this setback might be the key to unlocking Clark's true potential want to know why let's talk about Clark's insane college career she was breaking records left and right at Iowa scoring like crazy and making headlines everywhere everyone thought she'd come into the WNBA and just dominate from day one the hype was real and the pressure was even realer imagine this you're Caitlyn Clark stepping onto the court for your first pro game she's the biggest star in all of sports and she's a woman
this is very unique no woman's ever been asked to to to carry this burden no it's never happened in America all of that and it's like wow and then obviously you have Angel ree still trolling her and the people in the media uh being uncomfortable she's playing in a social issues League that wants to wears shirts that say vote wants to scream black lives matter wants to push some sort of political agenda she just wants the ball the whole world is watching expecting you to turn the Indiana Fever into instant Champions that's a lot to
handle right but you know what's crazier the unexpected challenges she faced in her rookie season how did she deal with the transition from college Superstar to WNBA rookie you won't believe what happened next remember all those College records Clark shattered in the WNBA she broke even more but here's the kicker her team was losing a lot how did Clark manage to shine individually while her team struggled to find its footing Caitlyn Clark's transition to the WNBA wasn't the fairy tale start many expected the Indiana Fever kicked off their season with a brutal 1 18 record
talk about a reality check Clark went from dominating College courts to facing some of the toughest competition in women's basketball and she's caught up in this racial discussion and she's dealing with Nike and organization that got her on a Bargain Basement deal and is telling her well we're going to wait to promote you until we're done promoting Asia Wilson they're all having conversations they used to not have because no one cared about the WNBA and so these guys could go play their game in anonymity with very little pressure no one really cared and they got
a little small small 3 four week break because of the Olympics but it still wasn't much of a break because a lot of discussion was like how come she ain't on the Olympics it's like going from being the big fish in a small pond to swimming with shark but here's where it gets interesting even with the fever's early struggles Clark was putting up numbers that would make any rookie jealous she didn't just break records she shattered them 337 assists in a single season that's a new WNBA record and get this she had a hand in
1,220 points either scoring or assisting that's another League record now you might be thinking how is she doing all this while her team is losing well that's the million-dollar question Clark was facing a tough schedule going up against Championship contenders like the Connecticut sun and New York Liberty it's like being thrown into the deep end and expected to swim like Michael Phelps on your first try but Clark isn't one to back down from a challenge she kept pushing kept learning and kept leading after the Olympic break something clicked for the fever they you know they're
going to give their best effort they wanted to win that game but I think there was also part of them to just let me get to Cancun let me get out of this bubble I need a break cuz that that's I've been waiting all season and I know aiyah Boston has been supportive of Caitlyn Clark but Aaliyah Boston has a different personality Aaliyah Boston from my vantage point one of the nicest people on the planet hats off to Caitlyn Clark hats off to the Indiana Fever hats off to Christy sides and not the perfect coach
but the young coach that helped them get through they started playing faster smarter and more Co cohesively suddenly opponents couldn't keep up with their Pace it was like watching a completely different team Clark's leadership was key in this turnaround she wasn't just putting up impressive stats she was rallying her teammate in her own words nobody ever quit Superstars are going to get a special whistle and they should get a special whistle protecting their one Superstar who brought in more eyeballs than anyone else has ever done in the league she should have a special whistle calls
like this should be made should be reviewed because at the end of the day it's not just the sport it's the entertainment of the sport and you need to protect your Superstars and the WNBA has not done well this entire season we came in here every single day and continued to work we just weren't executing we weren't really on the same page that's the kind of attitude that turns losers into winners and turn it around they did the fever went from being the League's punching bag to clinching their first playoff birth since 2016 that's right
Clark helped end a six-year playoff drought in her rookie season talk about making an impact but let's not forget the individual accolades Clark set the rookie record for points in a season with 769 oh and she casually drained 122 three-pointers along the way it's like she brought her College hot streak with her and cranked it up a notch Clark's regular season was on fire but the playoffs that's when things got really interesting Caitlyn Clark finished a regular season leading rookies in scoring field goals made three-point field goals made assist Steals and minutes played and she
led the league an assist and three-point is made people when they talk about boxing Andrea Shay Molly they might they'll say Muhammad Ali was the greatest she elevated she seemed to thrive the second that she we talked about her needing to be on Team USA obviously all of us weren't in agreement with that imagine going from setting League records to struggling to sink a three how did the rookie Phenom handle her first taste of postseason pressure the Indiana fevers playoff series against the Connecticut sun was like Dave facing Goliath the sun came in with a
whopping 222 combined playoff games under their belt the fever just 19 talk about a mismatch and experience game one hit Clark like a freight train remember those jaw-dropping performances we got used to seeing they were nowhere to be found Clark scored a measly 11 points shooting an ice cold 4 for 17 from the field and her signature three-point shot it was like watching a magician's trick go wrong she only made two out of 13 attempts ouch but here's where it gets wild I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that I do
think that this was a basketball play but I think it was a careless basketball play I wouldn't go as far to say that I think D Carrington poked her in the eye on purpose a lot of people are also saying that the WNBA needs to overhaul the referees that they have just been absolutely awful this season however I do think that she was Reckless when she was going for this steal she didn't care where her hand landed Clark didn't just struggle with her shot she ended up with a black black eye during the game talk
about adding insult to injury you could almost feel the pressure Weighing on her shoulders it was like watching a star player suddenly forget how to play basketball now you might be thinking is this the end of Caitlyn Clark's magic not so fast game two rolled around and it was like Clark flipped a switch she bounced back in a big way dropping 25 points and dishing out nine assists it was like watching a completely different player Clark showed everyone that she could take a punch literally and figuratively and come back swinging the final game of the
series that's when Clark really showed what she's made of I I'm disappointed in you and and and Molly I'm disappointed in you Molly what's up you say because here's where I'm at Molly where all the ladies at what did what did I say I me who the bad guy sh sh me we were the bad guy sh sh Molly Molly I said really Molly wow we they jumped on us they jumped on us Molly they jumped us as a she set a record for the most points scored or assisted on by a rookie in a
playoff game a whopping 45 points it was like watching a highlight reel in real time Clark was everywhere doing everything she could to keep her team in the fight but here's the kicker even with Clark's heroic the fever couldn't pull off the upset they lost the Series but Clark she gained something way more valuable than a win she got a taste of what it takes to compete at the highest level and she proved she could hang with the best of them looking up a stat I don't know if if you know this or not you
probably do knowing you cuz you don't miss much uh Caitlyn Clark has personally received 177% of the flagrant fouls called you know five of those fouls of of 32 have been on Caitlyn Clark that's where we get the 177% from she didn't cry she didn't quit she got up she shook it off she hadn't said anything in a press conference no matter how good how fast how athletic how high you jump you can never catch up with the pace of the ball you know what's crazy after that tough game one Clark didn't sulk or make
excuses she stepped up and delivered a powerful message to her team she said we can win it's not anything about the building it's not about the gym I have all the confidence in the world in this team that's the kind of leadership that turns good players into great ones even after the series ended Clark was already looking ahead she said the fun part is I feel like I'm just scratching the surface and I'm one that's nitpicking every single thing I do that's the mindset of a future Champion folks she's not satisfied with just being good
she wants to be the best Clark may have lost in the playoffs but guess what she's already changing the game in ways you wouldn't expect the rookie sensation impact on the WNBA goes Way Beyond her stats it's like she's got a Magic Touch turning everything she's involved with into basketball goal let's talk about the fever's home game they're not just selling tickets they're packing the house the Caitlyn clar situ situation where Kennedy Carter side side hipped her you know basically checked her with a you know side hip move and whatever knocking her to the ground
one of the things that I highlighted was that Caitlyn Clark's the Golden Goose she happens to be a terrific Talent who's white and very very marketable it's all justifiable because there were people that were pounding the pavement and going through so much to help Elevate the wnba's profile long before Caitlyn Clark ever came long and yet were denied that level of recognition we're talking over 177,000 fans on average that's insane it's like Clark brought her own personal cheering section from Iowa and it's growing with every game the energy in that Arena must be off the
charts because I think it makes a mockery of the women's game if the focus on okay now we just have to have people because of marketing and their atttention and they're not as talented we're not putting the best team out there is unfair to the women of this league to your point who have laid the groundwork for Kaitlin Clark to come in and now take it to the next Stephen A respectfully with your platform you could have been doing this 3 years ago if you wanted to but it's not just about butts and seats Clark's
Making Waves across the entire league you know what's crazy six different TV Partners hit record viewership numbers this year all featuring the fever it's like Clark's got her own gravitational pull drawing eyeballs from all over the country now you might be thinking all this attention must be great right well it's a double-edged sword sure Clark's getting Tons of love and support but with the spotlight comes some seriously nasty stuff too coach Christy sides didn't hold back when she called out the haters she said it's a lot of hurtful hateful speech out there that's happening and
it's unacceptable imagine dealing with that on top of the pressure to perform it's like playing basketball with weights on your shoulders but here's where Clark really shines instead of letting all this noise get to her she's using it to fuel the team coach sides is all about keeping the team focused and tight-knit Kaitlin Clark received 17% of the wnba's flagrant fouls this season and 80% of those flagrant fouls were committed by the Chicago Sky against Caitlyn Clark league and that's what a lot of players and coaches said about Caitlyn Clark and about the rookie class
coming into the league is that that was going to be something that they would need to adjust to they would need to adjust to the physicality of this league so there have been cheap shots there have been hard fouls there have been other plays that haven't even been called flagrant fouls but when you have the face of your league getting nearly 20% of all flagrant fouls called against her that is an issue she's got them blocking out the external noise and staying locked in on their goals it's like they've built their own little Fortress of
basketball awesomeness and Clark she's not just along for the ride she's leading the charge her competitive spirit is infectious it's like she's got this superpower that makes everyone around her want to step up their game the whole team culture has shifted they're not just playing for themselves anymore they're playing for something bigger you know what's really wild Clark's talking about this season like it's just the appetizer after their playoff run she said it's a good little taste of what's possible for this organization and for this franchise that's the kind of attitude that turns good teams
into great ones she's not satisfied with just making the playoff she wants to take over the whole league but here's the kicker all this hype all this pressure it's not just affecting Clark and the fever it's changing the entire WNBA landscape more eyes on the games mean more fans more sponsorship more opportunities for growth Clark's not just playing basketball she's helping to build the the future of women's sports Caitlyn Clark's rookie season was a wild ride full of ups and downs she broke records left and right but also faced some tough losses not calling some
of these fouls and not cracking down on some of these cheap shots and hard fouls that are so excessive not only against Caitlyn Clark but against other players as well people to be more excited in players other than Caitlyn Clark people want to see a fast-paced high-scoring long range shooting game from these women people should know right off the bat shouldn't be the first round of the playoffs that players think that they can still do this kind of thing to Caitlyn Clark to Angel Reese you know what's crazy even after all that Clark's hungry for
more she's not just sitting back and basking in her success listen to this I feel like I'm just scratching the surface and I'm one that's nitpicking every single thing I do that's Clark talking about how she wants to keep improving she's not just thinking about herself either she wants to make her whole team better the fever went from struggling big big time to making the playoffs that's huge Clark sees it as just the beginning she said it's a good little taste of what's possible for this organization and for this franchise imagine what she'll do next
season with all this experience under her belt the future is looking bright for Clark and the fever
