on the cross upon witnessing the earthquake and the astonishing occurrences they were filled with profound fear and amazement truly acknowledging him as the Son of God this narrative is recounted in Matthew 27 veres 5354 the centurion's duty was to ensure the proper execution of the crucifixion without complications typically commanding a cohort of 100 soldiers his courage and intelligence during the crucifixion characteristic of a seasoned Soldier propelled him to higher ranks to excel in his role he needed to be stoic and efficient consistently following orders from his superiors the crucifixion of Jesus was such an extraordinary
event that even a toughened Roman Centurion acknowledged Jesus as the Son of God this acknowledgement suggested Jesus innocence regarding the charges for which he was crucified the Centurion likely experienced a mix of emotions upon realizing he oversaw the crucifixion of an innocent man these were not the hesitant words of a frightened recruit or the indecisive words of a gullible recruit they were firm conclusions drawn by a seasoned veteran who had witnessed many men meet their demise for whom he was responsible this Centurion was well aware of the severe judgment from the Jewish religious leaders who
had brought Jesus to the cross on blasphemy charges his Superior Pontius Pilate had upheld the conviction that Jesus had made a claim however the Centurion disregarded the condemnation and affirmed Jesus statement because the arguments supporting Christ were undeniable it's noteworthy that this man had likely overseen numerous crucifixions yet there was something notably different about this particular execution what he witnessed during Jesus arrest trial and crucifixion converged into a compelling realization firstly Jesus response to the Injustice he endured at the hands of his own people during his arrest and trials was striking undoubtedly this Soldier had
witnessed numerous crucifixions before during jesus' interrogation by the high priest where he remained silent the high priest adjured him to declare if he was indeed the Christ the son of God Jesus affirmed this for telling his future Glory this event is recorded Ed in Matthew 26: 62-64 Jesus endured severe mistreatment at the hands of the governor's soldiers enduring mockery beatings and humiliation despite this he maintained dignity and silence resembling a lamb led to slaughter as described in Matthew 27: 27-31 Jesus response to the hostile crowd demanding his crucifixion was one of sealance displaying remarkably forbearance
even as the high priest inited the crowd to call for Barabas release instead and ptis out to understand Jesus alleged crimes the crowd persisted in demanding Jesus crucifixion pilate seeking to appease the crowd released barabus and handed Jesus over to be flogged and crucified as recounted in Mark 15: 11-15 amidst all this Jesus demonstrated compassion praying for forgiveness for those who persecuted him including the soldiers involved in his crucifixion such as the Centurion his plea father forgive them for they do not know what they are doing illustrates his overarching concern for forgiveness and Redemption the
soldiers cast lots dividing up his clothes among them and sitting down they kept watch over him to prevent any attempt to rescue him from his followers he saw the reaction of creation we read that the Earth Shook and the Rocks split nature itself was shaken by the death of the Son of God the hearts of men did not respond to the agonizing cries of the Redeemer of the world a dense Darkness covered the whole land scripture was now fulfilled Amos 8 verse it will happen on that day decare as the Lord God that I will
make the sun go down at noon and darken the Earth in broad daylight those who often demanded a sign from Christ from heaven now had one but it mean blend L for their eyes at this point in the afternoon it would be 12:00 noon and the Darkness would persist until 3: in the afternoon this Supernatural Darkness occurred when the sun was at its peak like the moon was full it could not have been caused by an eclipse as it cannot intervene between the Earth and the sun when it is full undoubtedly God's Swift intervention brought
this Darkness also mentioned is an earthquake which aligns its story closely with the sacred record Darkness occurring at such a critical moment could have several meanings first Darkness was traditionally associated with mourning furthermore Darkness was a sign of God's judgment the tombs were opened and many bodies of the Saints who had fallen asleep were raised God's people who had died were resurrected and came out of the tombs after the resurrection they entered the Holy City Jerusalem and appeared to many people Matthew 27: 5253 it is evident that the Centurion was shocked to witness such a
dramatic event during Christ's last hours especially because he had never seen anything like it before the impact on the Centurion was profound and almost beyond measure he witnessed heard and felt all the events surrounding Christ's crucifixion and death leaving him and his soldiers deeply frightened despite their accustomed resilience to fear they were now overwhelmed with sheer Terror jesus' influence extended not only to toughened individuals like the Roman Centurion but also to women exemplified by figures such as Mary magdaline who had previously been possessed by demons and had followed Jesus From Galilee among the Witnesses were
many women who had followed Jesus From Galilee including Mary Magdalene Mary the mother of James and and Joseph and the mother of zebedee's sons James and John the salvation of all Humanity traces back to Jesus sacrifice on the cross which began its transformative work immediately and has persisted for two Millennia it is the power of the Cross and the love demonstrated there that touches hearts even those of battle hardened soldiers leading them from Death To Life an age-old saying asserts that the ground is Lev at the foot of the cross a truth that held in
the first century and remains relevant today at the foot of the cross both the impoverished and the affluent find equal footing to kneel and embrace the Christ who died for them for those who have heard and believed the journey does not conclude there we must have the passion to know him more deeply in Philippians 3: 10-1 so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ to the glory and praise of God May
divine grace overflow and act in the faithful and may we share in the communion of his suffering being continually transformed inwardly to his likeness Until the End may this same desire burn in our hearts so that we may honestly know the one who loved us and gave himself for us one cannot help but wonder how being in contact with Jesus affected the lives of the soldiers did they Embrace Christianity according to tradition the Centurion was known as longinus later recognized as St Linus he fervently embraced Jesus teachings spreading the gospel and eventually facing martyrdom tradition
suggests that he converted left the Roman military and sought sanctuary in capadia where he adopted a monastic lifestyle there he endured persecution for his Christian beliefs refusing to renounce his faith despite brutal torture that resulted in the removal of his tongue and eyes while the veracity of this account remains uncertain it underscores the transformative power of Jesus's truth in Touching Hearts the cross of Jesus possesses the profound ability to alter individuals initially a Roman officer overseeing crucifixions the Centurion ended the day acknowledging Jesus as the Son of God as stated in 1 Corinthians 1:18 for
the message of the Cross is foolishness to those who are perishing but to us who are being saved it is the power of God the preaching of Christ crucified may be perceived as Folly by many inight opposition and ridicule yet to those who respond to the call Christ represents the divine power and wisdom ultimately the decision to accept Jesus message rests with each individual God has already initiated the pathway to Salvation through Christ's sacrifice Jesus sacrificed his life so that Humanity could be redeemed and live alongside him he asks only for a life of righteousness
