There is a surprising aspect in Beatriz ‘s production which is this idea of an expanded painting, a thought of painting, or in painting, or through painting, which is powerful in the various expressive media, and somehow brings, or returns an entire manner, to a challenging dialogue with the modernist tradition of painting. This exercise of challenge, of a challenging return to the tradition of painting, it is also crucial for a brand-new conceptualization of this experience of painting, of this experience of the image, of a sort of advance of this plastic thought in the various media, whether traditional media, observed in a contemporary perspective, or media that are still to come. Because, actually, the painting which in modernism bears self-reference as an important theme for the painting itself, with the painting that is thought, and which is one of the drivers of Beatriz,s poetic production.
This painting is revolutionary precisely because it returns to a tradition that originated in painting. I am surprised by Beatriz Milhazes’s passage aimed at reestablishing this tradition in a challenging, acute and extremely current way in the powerful register of the contemporary visual experience.
