[Peter] Imagine a TV show that throws you into a seemingly unsolvable mystery and at the end of each chapter you MUST see the next one, you have to watch the next one, you go crazy! That's what happened to me watching From, have you ever heard of this show? So come with me now it's time for the series tip, I'll give you a TV show tip, and your next binge-watch could be this one!
I know most here are into horror movies. You guys are badass, you won't get scared, right? So I couldn't miss this new TV show that premiered a few weeks ago in Brazil.
I'm talking about From, in Brazil it arrived under the name Origem, and it's on Globoplay. And it was like that with me, you know when the TV show is there, and you spend a few days wondering if you're going to see it or not? Until everyone started commenting HOW GOOD THIS SHOW WAS, then there was no way I could ignore it anymore, right?
I had to see it with my own eyes (and I have spectacular eyesight) to tell you. . .
and guys, I'm so glad I did! This is the homework I like, you give it to me and I like it, okay? So come with me to find out what's different about this series that everyone is talking about.
. . and relax, it's spoiler-free – everything I say is in the synopsis and in the trailer, ok?
You've watched? Comment down here if you've watched this show and whether you liked it or not. And if you're hyped, comment down here, okay?
Let's go! The first thing you should know about From is that it's one of those stories about a place that the characters enter and they can't get out. The guys come in and don't come out anymore, like Lost, it's just the same.
And From, or Origem, is, shall we say, from the same family as Lost. That's because the main producer and director is Jack Bender, who was the director of Lost. In addition to him, other names from Lost are also back in From – such as Javier Grillo Marxuach, who was a screenwriter for Lost and returned as a screenwriter for this new series, and the main actor of From, is Harold Perrineau, who lived Michael on Lost.
Now a lot of people will be afraid of From being a trap, right? But as much as this information leaves you on the back foot, I at least gave a vote of confidence that the guys learned from their mistakes and may want to get it right now in From. By the way, it is inevitable that you will not remember Lost while watching From.
There are many similarities in the core of the show. For those who have never heard of From, the synopsis is like this: There is a city in the middle of nowhere where several people are trapped in it. You can't tell how they'll end up there, much less how they'll get out.
The thing just happens, but that's just the first mystery of the show. Then things get worse. .
. during the night, sinister beings hunt down the city's residents and brutally kill them. Bloodthirsty, gore, total gore.
And that's where we freak out, because the show piles up dangers and mysteries all the time. And the cool thing is that the viewer is placed in the same place as the characters, neither they nor we can understand how things happen and this feature makes the story very engaging. I think that wretched screenwriter KNEW very well what he was doing to trap us.
The plot of From is very intelligent and goes beyond the obvious. Oh, and get ready because the first few scenes are VERY impactful. There's blood, there's some gore.
. . But if I were to put it on a scale, the show has more suspense than terror.
Horror itself doesn't appear all the time, but in terms of suspense, folks. . .
We are intrigued and afflicted all the time, and that's the coolest thing of all. There's visual terror, but there's a lot of psychological terror, we get afflicted, and addicted to trying to unravel the mysteries. The series has a very cool characteristic that is – the more you think it is getting close to explaining something, the more you get involved in a spider's web and realize that you don't know anything!
Seriously, if you like a series that turns into a puzzle and leaves us creating a thousand theories, go for it! And overall, the entire cast of From does pretty well. The characters are very well built, each one has a characteristic and a well-defined narrative function.
The production is super meticulous in every detail, the scenarios are convincing, the landscapes, the soundtrack. . .
Seriously, I was blown away by the quality. “Ah, Peter is getting money to praise the show” I wish! But come on, I dare you to watch From and come back here to tell me if I'm wrong!
For perspective, this show has a 7. 6 out of 10 on IMDb, and on Rotten Tomatoes, it has a 96% critical and 88% audience approval. It's very high on thermometers, isn't it?
From was a success in 2022 on American TV, and I think it has everything to be in Brazil too. That's why I came to indicate her here for you, if the guys like it I'll even bring some analyzes here for you. The end of the first season is mind blowing, and of course, left many questions in the air, for us to bite our nails waiting for season 2.
. . and it's coming, it's confirmed!
The second season of From debuts in the United States later this month, on the 23rd of April. Gee, next week, is that it? Very little to go!
In Brazil, we still don't have news about when the 2nd season arrives. . .
and that's also why I wanted to bring this show so you know it exists – let's keep an eye out! Furthermore, From is certainly one of the big surprises of 2023 for me, it had me hooked from the first episode to the last. And speaking of episodes, there are 10 in total in the first one and they are about 50 minutes long each.
