but if you are here and you are sucking oxygen out of the air there is a seed in you there is a seed in here and if you will nurture it if you will nurture it i don't care if you've been in prison i don't care if you're watching me from prison right now i don't care if you have autism i don't care what they have put on you come out of all of that come on there's a seed in here [Music] you have to know who god created you to be and then then follow that follow that into new idioms of thought new realms new creativity new resources go where nobody's ever been before most of the people that we admire today we hated them in their lifetime yeah there you go i do i tell if martin luther came back came back out of the grave today he would be shocked at streets named after him in schools named after him they hated dr king in his lifetime that's why he got murdered and it wasn't just white folks black folks didn't always take him in either there were many many churches that would not let dr king come in the door he was highly controversial if you are going to do something that matters you cannot be swayed by whether people like you or do not like you you have to stand up and go ahead you know as you're saying that i'm thinking about jesus when he came into jerusalem and all the people saying hosanna hosanna and one week later those same people are saying crucify him crucify him and it says that jesus didn't give ear to man because he knew what was in the heart of man and i think just what you're saying i'm thinking you're just really like jesus is that if you're going to pioneer a road you cannot be swayed by how do you allow the naysayers not to get to you first let me let me touch on the thing you said about jesus jesus was radical totally oh my gosh he went in church and turned over the tables and started beating people jesus was rattled cursed a tree and told it to die jesus was radical ate food on the wrong dates with unclean hands broke all the rules fed people ran around with wine bibles controversial didn't fit them all so now church people gave him the blues okay jesus was radical because you cannot be revelational and be religious there you go okay if you're gonna walk in revelation you can't walk in tradition and people love traditions because they make them feel safe just keep it like it was don't move anything around don't do it read the scripture first and then say the prayer that you're not supposed to say the printer you read the script we got more rules for which there are no scriptures than any place in the world but we are serving a radical jesus come on a radical relentless jesus who talked to people who wasn't supposed to talk to you know your people have no dealings with my people that's what the woman at the well said to him he broke rules he crossed the line he got engaged with people and yet we have a church today who if they see you with anybody who doesn't believe like you believe what are you doing with them what are you doing with her jesus hung out with them come on it was the uses he stayed away from bishop jakes i'm so inspired by what you're saying i was thinking through john 17 where jesus said father i do not pray that you take them out of the world but you keep them from the evil one they are not of the world just as i am not of the world sanctify them by your word your word is truth as you sent me i send them and it's as you're talking right now and being salt and light and you are right there at the forefront and in fact even that um in mega fest you are trying to have an interconnected life you're not saying we have a sacred and a secular life we have one life in christ so i'm watching that in everything that you're doing i'm listening to it in your preaching you know i i listen to you every week and so i keep thinking of that being in the world not of the world it seems to me that in many cases the church has in fact become of the world but is no longer in it and rather than being in it but not of it and you can't change a world you're not in you can't change a world you're not in you can't change a person you're not in you have to get involved with people where they are and meet them with the love of jesus christ i i went out to hollywood and i was shocked at the hunger wow the hunger is staggering of prominent people who really want to know about christ and want to know about your faith and have been offended by church and ostracized by church but yet hungry for christ wow and uh if if we can go out there and we can minister to people everybody can't do it in the way that i did it i can't do it in the way that you did it but all of us have a responsibility within our sphere of influence to affect people to affect people's lives to leave people better than when you met them right that's that's the assignment for every christian to leave somebody better than you found them that's it so how do people [Applause] absolutely start to affect the culture and not let the culture affect them i truth be told we are affected by the culture we're affected by the culture and we always have been if you read through the early epistles there was large debate amongst the disciples about cultural ramifications should women cut their hair right you know should men shave they were all these debates about should your head be covered or not does not nature teach yourself that it's unseemly form for a woman to have uh short hair and all these ideas and ideologies they were grumping with it all the way back should we eat meats or not eat meats and what days should be recognized not be this is not new this is not new you are going to be affected by the culture of the society you're in you're gonna be affected by your age you'd be surprised how differently you think at 70 than you did at 17. some of those things became sin because you can't get up anymore your knees hurt your back all of a sudden it's easier to live holy as you get older but uh i'm teasing i'm teasing all right all right okay but it's true uh your ideas between women and men are different all of that affects the way we see the world right okay so our world view my world view has changed drastically the first time i left the country my worldview began to change when you travel internationally you begin to stop you stop thinking in in the microcosm of americanism right as if america is the globe right you find out how there is a world out there and there are other people there are other issues and it changes everything so when you say yes we are affected our worldview is affected and it is a progressive revelation that we continue to evolve as a species and thank god we do because if we're not evolving we are dead absolutely okay the question becomes how effective are we at affecting the world that is affecting us okay have have we left as much effect on it as it has on us and i know there are people out there watching me right now say it has no effect on me and all i want you to do is send me a picture of what you got on right now and i want to ask you where they were in that 300 years ago i want to see your hairdo i want to see your makeup i want to see your your shoes you're wearing were they wearing that 300 years ago yes you're being affected by culture absolutely the question becomes how can we become more adept at affecting the culture that affects us that means we have to engage in politics we have to go into forbidden areas dangerous areas and toxic areas we have to get involved in the decisions that are being made around the world we have to be involved on television and technology and everywhere there is an issue or an interest there should be a saint of god standing there with the sword of the word come on garden that spot come on do you think the division between the sacred and the secular is what has caused like a lot of the issues that somehow the church instead of running towards it thought that i'm holy so i have to be come out from amongst it and be ye separate i mean how have you reconciled that in in the eighth chapter about around the eighth chapter of the book of acts the disciples all up into the eighth chapter kept going back to jerusalem home base and i understand why they go back to jerusalem jesus is gone that must have been awfully scary right the holy spirit is coming now you're up you're being directed by the invisible yeah that's pretty scary especially when you're being beheaded that's pretty scary stuff and they kept running back to jerusalem until finally he scattered them out of jerusalem and forced him to go into all the world and they went into all the world until we got so caught up in our buildings and our man-made institutions it used to be that faith was inherent in the fabric of our daily life they continued daily in the breaking of bread and fellowships moving from house to house when we started building organized cathedrals we started saying for people to come but jesus really said go okay and so now now we have this issue here that we have taken our faith and locked it up in an address when what god really wants him to be a part of your daily life your daily bread how you live how you get up in the morning how you go forward the only reason to really come to church people say you came to church of worship i worship at home i worship right now worship anywhere the only real reason to come to church is to get further instruction to be fed to be fed to be fed so that you can live your life out in everyday living he wants us to be out there engaging people interacting people and not always antagonistically exactly because sometimes i'm saying this and then i'm sorry i'm talking too much i was reading in ezekiel the other day where ezekiel says that he goes down to the rivers of shabar i think it is and he says i went in the heat of my own spirit and he said i s but when i got there i sat where they sat and he said i sat where they said for seven days in astonishment when you go to correct people that you don't know you think one thing right but when you sit where they sit and you go through what they've been through it will shut your mind it will shut your mouth it is easy to say how to fix something you were not affected by when you when you're actually in it it changes the whole tone absolutely except for seven days he didn't say anything and then he says the spirit of the lord came upon me look at the contrast he went in his spirit but he couldn't be effective until the spirit of the lord came upon him i think so many people are saying and doing things in their own spirit and using scriptures in it because they have attitudes about it right that they have infected the integrity of the power of the word polluting it with the toxicity of your opinions and your biases and your ideologies yes we need to sanctify the word hallelujah because because of the potency of god's word it is not just some uh uh uh creed to which we have ascribed allegiance to god's word is his semen it is how he reproduces and it can't be polluted or diluted with us unless it loses its effectiveness you understand absolutely oh no you can keep going i'm like ready to run a lap that's what i'm saying um you know as you were talking i thought even the word himself jesus before he did any miracle or even talk to people he was always moved with compassion right and so that right that attitude and that feeling deep in your guts of of love and mercy and empathy he had it whether it came to when before he uh you know fed the five thousand he had compassion on them so he taught them many things so even he's teaching with compassion or he's healing the sick or the blind man or the leper and i think you know what i hear you saying is is this word is full of life but you can cause it to almost sound like words of death if you walk in with your attitude of judgment and negativity and criticism and so how do you balance then speaking the truth in love and not throwing out truth in the name of love that is that is important let me say two things about that i think a lot of times we don't think people speak the truth unless we get to hear them speaking which causes us to use our influence with people and we could win them to christ but we attack them because we have to validate the fact see i stood for righteousness see when in reality when you really want to influence people you don't do it with lights and cameras you see what i'm saying when you really want to touch somebody it's it's it's swiss bringing in their ear it's gradually leading them to a place that it's not showing real witnessing is not sure preachy preaching can be showy but witnessing is not showy you don't do that in a camera you don't do that so that your ratings go up you don't do that so that you can impress the people who follow you this is a hard to hear my sister says it better than i do she says christianity at its best is one beggar telling another beggar where he found the bread hello hi that's the bottom line but what we have we have confused real ministry with just preaching and so sometimes we take that platform and we go at people we go at them not go with them we go at them you see you you can win me by going at me i'm a man you start coming at me my first reaction is to react to you oh yeah okay you know never mind what you said yes that testosterone a little bit i got left just rises up glory to god thank you i'm trying to hold it then a little bit i got loving rise up and try to choke you because i'm i'm not gonna hear what you're saying because i'm going to react to how you're saying it speaking the truth in love can be spoken in love but let me tell you something a lot of times we're speaking the truth to impress people it's fantastic to authenticate and validate that we are absolutely holding to a doctrine or standard but real witnessing is private this is a birthing room no visitors allowed when you really get ready to birth somebody you go in to really inject that seed of truth you don't need a crowd around for that you see what i'm saying and a lot of us are so busy trying to play to the crowd that we lose the soul see i think a lot of older people have have talked themselves out of the face well i'm old now that's it you know i'm getting old enough and we start playing this role that's been taught to us that you should go sit in a corner and dry rod the devil is a liar a liar come on i'm not doing it you have to watch the language that people will infuse upon you and they'll make you confess things that make you sick they will make you confess things that make you die you'll get to a certain age and you'll start calling sickness on you because you think that this is the way all people like and this is where i'm supposed to act and we start playing a role and then the body cooperates with the role we play because the less you use it the less it will work so after a while you have really talked yourself into dying when god is pumping life into you life into you life into your life until every day every morning every day god is saying live and he wants you to live for a purpose there is a reason you are still here he's not just being nice to you god's letting you live because there's something he wants you to do come on and if you're not dead you ought to do something new you ought to do something every day every day every day you ought to do something move something say something write something speak something you're it's never too late to have a destiny it's never too late and so i think that so many times we hung up our guns too soon i was talking to bob shaffer you know and uh the journalist and he told me he said let me tell you something he said don't ever think you're old he said everything major that happened to me happened after 65. whoa everything major in his career in his life happened after 65.
sometimes we groom ourselves to think a certain way look at the men who are serving in congress at 70 and 75 and 80. our president is 70. come on you know you're talking i'm thinking i was just with my spiritual mother joyce meyer the other day at 74 still doing more than i had to run to keep up with her she's like walking five miles every day she lifts heavier weights than me no joke and i go what are you doing she says i'm just writing another book number 123 mind you and um i think caleb was 85 and he said to joshua i'm not cashing in my 401 case i see hebron that's what moses told me absolutely and he said i'm as strong now as i was then i i've turned 50 and i've said the same thing i i just feel like i'm just coming into it now you just start to get some sense around you start to figure out two or three things that start to line up and you get bold enough to say what you mean mean what you say and not care what people think about it i love it i love it i love it i love it i love it and stats say that baby boomers are living longer and healthier than ever before we're having to re organize our cities to accommodate the fact that we are healthier than we have been and we are living longer than we have ever been before that's important by the same token when it comes to destiny we have a generation of young people that were raised in front of facebook and twitter and instagram and when they cut off all those gadgets they don't know who they are right and we need to let them know that you have a destiny that you were created for purpose that god has a plan for you there are no mistakes there are no mistakes there are no accidents whether you knew your mother knew your father or not you are not an accident you are not a mistake god brought you here for a purpose he has a plan for your life you got to discover your gifts and get in the game roll up your sleeves and start duking oh i'm about to i'm about see she and i were talking in the back she marveled at the fact i started preaching at 19.
yeah i started preaching at 19. i started pastoring at 22. by the time i was 30 years old i was on national television around the world i was 38 years old when i came to dallas i'm telling you it's never too early to start and it's never too late to start at every age you can be productive because there is not let me say this one thing because phil i preach the very first thing that god says to man is be fruitful there you go the very first thing is be fruitful very law first mentioned be this is what he expects from you be fruitful every day you breathe be fruitful he's still saying the same thing now let me go a little bit deeper and say you can't be fruitful if you're not seedful okay come on so when you start talking about destiny destiny doesn't begin with with the fruit it begins with the seed there is a seed of greatness in you there is a seed of greatness in you it may not be reflected in your finances it may not look like it your friends might not acknowledge it your kids might not be speaking to you your dog may not even want to come near you and sit on your lap but if you are here and you are sucking oxygen out of the air there is a seed in you there is a seed in here and if you will nurture it if you will nurture it i don't care if you've been in prison i don't care if you're watching me from prison right now i don't care if you have autism i don't care what they have put on you come out of all of that come on come on there's a seed in here there's a seed down in you and just a seed and this is what god is going to ask us this is what god's going in the parable when he when the householder went and he left one man a talent another one he left two dollars another one he left five dollars when he comes back again he says to them what did you do with what i gave yeah what did you do with what they talked to i don't want to hear about who talked about you i don't want to hear about your mother come on i don't want to hear about your neighborhood i don't want to hear about your aunt kissy i want to know what did you do with what i gave you got a voice saying got a pen start writing got a pictures take the picture if you can paint paint whatever god gave you if you cook cook what did you do with what i gave you we have a doing god he is an active god he wants you to do something it's not just thinking it it is doing it and if he gave you life today if you're watching me right now do something bust a move come on come on do it [Music] in your experience what would be one of the major reasons people don't do i think that uh people allow fear to trap them and and it can be the spirit of fear the need to be accepted yeah uh sometimes we are surrounded by do-nothing people and in order to fit in they have lulled you to sleep because they didn't like the fact that you were active and that you were energetic and that you were enthusiastic and that you didn't live in the prison of what they expected you to be yeah i've never let nobody put me in a box oh you're a preacher i said i was a person before i was a preacher yeah okay i didn't come here with a call around my neck i was a person who had gifts and interests and talents and energy don't let people put any title on you that becomes a ball and a chain that you can't get out on that you can't be who you are for living up to who they expected you to be and some people are in situations where the neighborhood the family the spouse expects you to be sleep and you're just playing sleep so you'll fit in but deep down on the inside you want to do you want to move you want to get out there and do it yes do it do it have it the validation of people is not as important as having the accommodations of god so you have to get out there and do it so one thing is fear the other thing is our need to fit in the third thing is our resources don't line up with our vision right yes okay you remember when when joshua came down uh to uh the jordan and his mentor moses when he came down to the red sea the red sea parted before he ever got in it when joshua comes to the jordan it didn't work for him like it did for moses right he had to step into the water sometimes you don't get the provision until you step into your vision you can't sit back there and wait for the money to come before you do it go do it and let the money catch up with you there you go that's a word for someone the the money will come when you start doing it the waters will part when you step in it people will help you if you start grabbing something too heavy and you start dragging it somebody will come and help you nobody's going to help you sit down and think about it get up and do it there you go would you say in your own personal life that your vision has always exceeded your resources always oh my god i can get them shot right now i have never had enough money to do anything i tried to do ever not one time did i walk into it where i thought oh i got this i always went into it with on a wing and a prayer never did have the budget had to walk by faith gritting my teeth stressed out up in the middle of the night trying to believe god oh god [Applause] oh god never had enough money i haven't never had enough money never let that stop me when you come up poor you're used to walking by fast you are you used to walking by when you've been broke and you had to lean and depend on god all of your life no matter what level you you could not be intimidated because i have always had to have him to do anything so so i'm not encouraging you to do crazy stuff but i am saying that just because you don't see your way clear doesn't mean you can't do it right and and and somebody has you might have the gift of vision and somebody else has a gift of provision right and god will send people to you with provision to get up under your vision bring your gift to the table bring it up beautiful somebody will help you somebody will help you somebody will come sing for you somebody will come do the other part for you somebody will negotiate the contract for you but do it don't just keep sitting there talking about oh [Music] i don't have enough money i can't do it i don't have enough friends i don't have enough education i don't have enough as a spirit and when you get the money to say you don't have enough education and if when you get the education to say that you're not young enough i don't have enough is a spirit it is a spirit but i know another spirit that is more than enough come on come on and you need to let that spirit of the holy ghost which is more than enough come against it i don't have enough and going out there and do it anyway i never had enough i never had enough i see that young man looking at me right now i never had enough for anything i did i was always uncertain i was always insecure i was always afraid but i did it anyway do it you know bishop jakes you said something very interesting you talked about the social media world in which we live so when you even started uh you didn't get a glimpse on a screen into your future you couldn't have imagined where you are today and we have a whole generation that is growing up every day glimpsing things wanting to sort of start where they're seeing other people have ended up as we go into the future and social media is not going anywhere so it's going to be there how do you think the next generation can navigate understanding that there are still steps to destiny you talk a lot about that and a lot of those steps are in anonymity and obscurity but if all our life is spent right there on the screen and comparing and competing how are people going to navigate the things that they need on the inside to be first of all it's an illusion almost everything you see on a screen is an illusion i never post a bad picture okay you know the pizza pictures that make you look like a gorilla and you know you know you delete them you delete them you know the ones that came out to darken lighting if the color is not vibrant you enhance it so we put this picture out there that that makes people think that this is the way our life is right we don't show them our bad days we don't we testify about when the lord came we don't tell him about when he didn't okay so all of a sudden when you run in a day and god didn't move the way you thought he should move you think something must be wrong when in fact i went through many many bad days to get to it one good day i cried a lot of nights before i danced all over the church okay people not seeing the whole story is disappointing because if you are not familiar with the struggle you will never be able to embrace the success right the struggle does not mean that god is not there i spent most of my life preaching in a storefront wow i was pre i'm the same person i was i tell you people who know me will tell you i am the same guy in the storefront preaching to seven people and two or more sleep okay and and that was important to me being able to handle this people who meet me now say oh i guess you are preaching you got a big church and you got a big and you got a big bag but people who know me no no no that can't be it wow cause that guy preached with his lights off with his water off he preached when he had to thumb to church right he preached when he was hungry and didn't have anything to eat see if you can't understand omega till you seen alpha whoa whoa right yeah you you know what it's like it's it's like you're watching this movie you know and your spouse comes in uh toward the end of the movie and they come in at the end of the movie you're asking all these questions and what is that going what you should have seen the beginning you'll never understand the ending if you didn't see the beginning you see at my beginning tells you it sets the compass right he started me low yeah he kept me humble he let me fail over and over and over and over again and see if i would preach in what was disarray in fact there was a room around said i couldn't pastor he said he can preach but he came pastor because i came home to a little storefront church i preached for people in big churches but i pastored i used to watch people drive past my church trying to find it coming from out of town they'd just be driving passing looking all around trying to fight i was standing there in the window waving i'm over here i'm over here but let me tell you something they might laugh at you right now but if you are faithful over a few things god will make you ruler over many never let go of your brain never let go of your dreams see i don't have to do uh manufacturing that kind of stuff's a big headache a big budget a lot of stress why would you do that because at this point in my life the only thing i really care about is getting everything i learned and everything i can get my hands on into the hands of as many other people as they can so that they can find their dreams so that they can move into their purpose so that they can get up on their feet and everybody's destiny is not to preach yes exactly we we need people we need anointed pilots we need anointed lawyers we need anointed presidents and senators yes legislators and people in government some people need to be called into business if the wealth of the unjust is laid up for the just how are we going to get it we got to go in there and get it and pull it in and draw it in and take over so that we can make better decisions and choices than secular people you won't be able to do that if somebody doesn't teach you how to lead how to administrate how to develop a staff how to train how to go forward how to move people i found out the most amazing thing about people and i have worked on death row i've literally been on death row i've worked with inmates our texas offenders re-entry initiative we have worked 10 000 inmates have gone through our program and we've reduced the rate of recidivism as a result of our program so i've been everywhere i don't care what you did i don't care how bad it was i want to spend this season of my life pouring into other people helping them reach their dreams i i have nothing to prove yeah you know i'm good i'm satisfied i'm happy i've answered my questions about myself to myself for myself there you go there you go that's a good thing you know so it frees me to be able to be interested in you to invest in you to impart life into you and most importantly not to be jealous of you [Applause] and now through the things that i'm doing i really want to see a generation of giant killers arise so that when the time comes that i fold up my feet and go to the land of my fathers all that we work for will not end with us i want the millennials to be strong i want them to be effective i want them to be in power i am their coach i am for them i i hear people complain about it but but you realize there are children whatever they are whatever they're not those are our children we raised them and the job isn't finished yet i tweeted out something you follow me at bishop jake's instagram twitter facebook i'm on all of it everything everything pinterest okay i said growing up i tweeted it out today growing up is such a hard job it takes your whole life to finish yes yes it takes your whole life to finish there's still a little bit of kid in you even at 50.
even at 60. there's still a potential of a dumb thing at 70.
