hello and welcome to another episode of elephant english podcast today we're going to be reading an original story that is called the old lady and the geese many years ago there was an old lady who loved animals every morning she put on her coat and hat and walked to the park it took about 10 minutes to walk there without rushing before she left her house she always took two slices of bread from her ladder and placed them in a plastic bag her walk took her past rows of terraced houses and all of them had different
colored front doors and pretty gardens with flowers and plants on this particular day a wednesday in june it was sunny but not too hot the old lady set off as normal she was looking forward to seeing their wildlife in the park when she arrived at the park she looked to see if anyone was sat on her favorite bench it was a nice wooden bench next to the duck pond well it was known as the duck pond but these days there weren't many ducks swimming around there the old lady was lucky because the bench was empty
she sat down and she took out her bag of bread as soon as she opened the bag of bread she heard a noise she couldn't think what it was she looked at the duck pond and saw a big group of canada geese swimming towards her oh she cried and quickly put the bag of bread back into her shopping bag the geese were swimming faster now and making a honking noise honk honk honk the old lady got up from the bench and walked away quickly from the water's edge when the old lady got home she reflected
on what had happened silly me she said to herself i ran away from geese silly old woman the next day she put on her coat and hat again and she set off for the park with a big bag of bread in her hand she walked past the row of houses with the brightly coloured doors and stopped to watch the bees and butterflies in the gardens the old lady settled down on the bench and started to break up the bread in the bag a tremendous noise came from across the pond as hundreds of geese that had
been sat on the grass suddenly entered the water and started honking loudly at each other the old lady was startled but was determined to stay on the bench as the geese approached her she started throwing the bread into the water some geese ate the bread quickly but others continued to swim towards the edge of the pond where the old lady was sat they climbed out of the water clumsily and plodded towards her stay calm stay calm she said to herself but inside she felt shaky and nervous the big geese approached the old lady expecting to
be fed she broke off a large piece of bread and hand fed the first goose then another and another and another she found it exciting and was disappointed when the bag was empty she walked away from the newly named goose pond feeling brave and happy the following day the old lady got ready for the walk as usual but she felt different she felt confident as she walked past the houses and gardens she said good morning to everyone she met one lady of a similar age asked her where she was going i'm going to the park
to feed the geese i go every day she said can i join you ask the other lady yes come with me now and bring some bread if you can spare it she replied the two ladies walked to the park and sat on the bench the geese crowded around them and both ladies laughed as the geese tried to get as close as possible to get the most food the ladies had so much fun together and got along so well that they started to meet up every day weeks later the old lady looked back on that day
