bonjour in this video I'm going to show you how you can converse in French in five different verb tenses all at once even as a complete beginner now I'm not a complete beginner of French I'm not saying I'm great but I'm not a complete beginner in other videos that you can check out you'll see how this is applicable to Swahili and um languages that I am a complete beginner of and so the the point here is that if you are an absolute complete beginner of French it's not too early to begin conversing so the first
thing I did is I went to chat GPT and I asked it to translate this to French what did you do what were you doing what are you doing what will you do and what would you do because that represents the five most common uh commonly used verb tenses right so it says what did you do KES KES or Taqua and what were you what were you doing KES right what are you doing KES or and what will you does what would you does all right it will pronounce it for you um and if you
can find a teacher or a friend or someone who wants to help you the pronunciation then you can take that route as well then I said give me an answer to each question and it said okay what did you do I finished my work and went to the park what were you doing I was reading a book in the garden uh I'll spare you having to hear me read all that um what are you doing right now I'm making dinner what are you going to do I'm going to uh go on vacation next week and
then what would you do um I would visit Paris if I had the time then I took those five questions over to my spreadsheet which is a language Matrix I call it because it's a creative field that allows us to create possibilities by mixing and matching building blocks which is what language is um and I made a a verb timeline okay past present future conditional and the past has these two versions kind of the the imperfect or the ongoing and uh and the simple right so what did uh what did you do what were you
doing that's pastes what are you doing what will you do and then what would you do and notice I've highlighted the verb in pink because the verb is the nucleus of the thought uh every sentence needs a verb or else it's just vocab um verbs hold the sentence together it's the nucleus of the thought I also call it the verb starting point or the seed okay uh from there we come down to the this three column kind of generator that I've been using so much lately and I find it to be the craziest like most
powerful thing and so now we will go through this and again I you know with pronunciation you kind of you know need someone to help you I know and my pronunciation isn't perfect so so don't blame me on that but just as far as getting started this is the way to do it so um we start with a statement then there's a yes no question then an open-ended question right so I finished my work and went to the park is Park all right that's all well and good now watch this we bring it over to
the yes no question take that same verb put it in the second person form of a yes no question which is did you finish your work okay now you have your conversation partner ask you and you say or no I haven't yet finished my work and we're going to make that whole thing the verb so I haven't yet finished is going to be the entire verb so okay so you are answering this question that's how you know if you've learned something by the way in any language you're learning that's how how do you know if
you've learned it because you can fill in the blank no it's because you can answer a question from a person who's in front of you saying are you done with your work have have you finished this video yet say no I have not finished this video no this video see how you mix in match now that finally that brings us to the to uh to column 3 the open-ended question which is the original question so what so then what did you do KES or TAA and you say ah I finished my work J see creates
that full circle all right now we're in that ongoing past tense we're in the uh the what were you doing well I was reading a book in the garden all right is my best guess on on saying that my teacher would help me kind of tweak pronunciation now were you reading a book in the garden and I'll say or no it's either one or the other either you were were or we not so it's very very very simple decision easy choice either Ona or well if you weren't reading a book in the garden what were
you [Music] doing you have someone quiz You by asking you these questions you see and you're learning grammar as you go learning verb tenses uh I'm preparing dinner guys are you preparing dinner right same pattern you're bringing that two around behind or then what are you doing if you're not preparing dinner what are you doing doing this or doing that all right what are you going to do what would you do these were the the the next two and the finals so going on vacation are you going on vacation next week you say what about
you what are you going to do and finally what would you do I would visit Paris if I had the time would you visit Paris if you had the time Vis I say we we be of course be we got to slow it down and get it right or no either one and the other one or the other all right um I'm going to grab a a physical notebook in practice journaling practice writing preparing my thoughts speaking out loud and most importantly finding people who speak French and trying it out and having conversation that is
the complete that's a one whole lesson and it's kind it's like a mini course in French uh a tiny course you see so I hope you enjoyed and if there's a language you want to see leave it in the comments thanks for watching
