so you've made the decision that you want to make music your full-time career maybe YouTube you've been studying and studying studying and reaching out those who you look up to it find it frustrating that you're not getting any responses let's talk about that what's going on guys Aaron Ivy Adam Ivy calm I've recently received an email that I really want to share with you because so many times I received these type of messages and I really think for the younger viewers especially that this message is going to be very powerful let's get to the email
so this email is a little bit longer I get emails that are pretty long sometimes because people want to give me their backstory and the current situation everything and that's fine but in this situation I'm going to condense it a little bit paraphrase what this viewer is asking his name's Ian he's a 17 year old kid while young adult who's been interested in getting into the music industry since he was 13 he's been studying the entertainment industry been watching smaller artists watch them move grow their audience some have failed some have been successful he realized
that it's not necessarily the quality of music but what you're also doing as a brand as an artist or as a producer sounds like he's interested in producing if not just hip hop and jazz reggae many other genres he's interested in he doesn't know much about the music industry as far as the perform sorry the producing side of it he's asking if he can get in contact with me directly to mentor him one-on-one essentially saying that if I charge that he doesn't really have that many resources and that's fine but asking to get a hold
of me asking me to mentor him one-on-one um a lot of people email me asking if I do mentor asking if I do pay mentorships or paid coaching which I do but I'm very select with who I do that with and there's a reason Ian if you're watching this you're 17 you've been studying this since you're 13 you're not ready for a mentor not ready for paid coaching not ready for anything like that because all you've been doing from from what I gather is studying and watching so many times and I've covered this in other
videos but so many times we do this right we watch people for instance if you want to be a vlogger on YouTube who are you watching you're watching Casey nice that everybody watches Casey you're watching Ben Brown you're watching you know you name it there's a million of them I could you know name here I'll put my phone down but that's all you do like I said in other videos there's a difference between consuming and creating so many times we get wrapped up in needing to think that we everything need to be perfect thinking that
we need to know everything before we jump in and that's not the situation you can't get better until you start taking actions and that goes for youî and that goes for any of my viewers so it doesn't matter what age you are I'm 32 years old if anybody's wondering I get a lot of comments in the comments below that I look like I'm 18 and 40 at the same time I feel like I'm 18 and 40 at the same time a lot of times so you guys are pretty accurate but what I'm getting at is
I didn't start making music until I was into my 21 year on earth way of 21 when I started making music so if you're 17 and you've been watching it for five years at 17 I wasn't interested in music at all in fact working on cars and working on import in your European tuner cars was kind of my passion as well as working out and sports and stuff like that like a lot of high school kids so I didn't get into music until I was 21 and I've mentioned that story in other videos I'm not
going to make this video really long what I'm getting at is a lot of times we seek out mentors we seek out people's advice lord knows I've done it you know you reach out to somebody that you really have looked up to you ask for advice and they're like okay cool send me your links and that's what I ask I'll ask you in send me your links send me the videos you've done send me the stuff you've done on social media so I can coach you you can't coach someone if they haven't done anything a
person can't go up to you and say I need to get better at being a quarterback okay well where are you right now I don't know how to throw a ball obviously you could start at the main floor but you don't really go to a coach for that right away unless I'm in certain situations but when it comes to music when it comes to creating on YouTube you've been studying for five years maybe you know you watching right now have been just getting into it for the last few months maybe you've been you know like
Ian five years in and you want this information well the issue is you have to take action action is going to get you further along and actions going to teach you more than I could ever charge you to teach you honestly now before I get off on a tangent you're probably asking right now well when would be a good time to seek coaching or mentorship or any apprenticeship or something like that it's all in what your goals are right so you need to get into the craft that you're interested in even at a base level
to understand creating and then from there you need to set goals whether that be I want to get into the music industry I want to sell beats online I want to just get my name out there on soundcloud and social and really reach out to those who are doing what your goals are based on right so if I'm selling beats online and that's all I'm doing you wouldn't reach out to me and ask how to get placements in the music industry commercial placements right and the same goes for commercial artists who aren't selling beats online
you don't go to them and ask them how do I make a hundred thousand dollars selling my beats online they won't know because all they do is work in the music industry it's kind of like a split up thing it's kind of confusing that's over a whole different video but what I'm getting at is you reach out to the people like I said in a different video one step above you maybe two steps above you you don't go right to the source when you don't have anything to show for it now before I go off
on a tangent like I usually do you're probably asking well Adam when would be a good time to reach out for a mentorship internship apprenticeship coaching whatever and that's after you get a little bit of you know dirt under your nails with the craft that you want to pursue whether that's music whether you want to be an artist whether you want to be a choreographer I've never really mentioned that whether you want to be a youtuber a music producer you need to do before you can get stuff done you need to actually have a little
portfolio or at least show some type of ambition in a sense of action before anyone is going to take you seriously I wouldn't take your money if you asked me to coach you into music production or making money online or anything unless you actually have something to show me so once you are to a point where you've kind of maxed out on your own that's when you reach out to somebody you don't just go in blind and say well I've been thinking about it I've read these books I've watched YouTube videos Ian you're on the
right track you're young kid guy young adult sorry and then me newest on you but you've been studying this since 13 you're 17 now now's the time to take action because if you don't take action what are you doing don't pay me don't pay anybody for coaching spend that money on actually doing what you want to do and learning you know here on YouTube you could find so many different tutorials you can be at a much higher level within six months if you really focus you know I didn't go to school from you for music
I know a lot of people that are massively successful that didn't go to school for music not saying that school is a bad thing but what I'm getting at is though the resources are out there to learn so before you go to someone and email them asking for all this advice make sure that you've done something right and I might being ridiculous for Sammis I I'm sure I'll get some hate in the comments below I always do welcome do something take action stop talking about it stop studying everyone and thinking that you need to know
everything because you won't you'll never know everything a lot of times a creative person will create their own style based on learning themselves so that's my advice for you if you've gotten to this if you you know I call this paralysis by analysis I didn't coin the term but you think about it so much that you paralyze yourself from actually doing anything and taking any action if you've been guilty of this I know I have leave a comment in the comments below let's give Ian you know some support let's show Ian what it takes to
really you know cultivate a skill and if you've been in the same position as Ian or anyone else that I talk about in these videos leave a comment in the comments below and let's give them some you know quality advice if you haven't yet please give a thumbs up to the video got a lot of great content coming sorry this video is kind of all over the place I actually wasn't planning on doing this I just read the email I said you know what forget about it I'm going to turn the camera on and record
