it's funny how much of your life feels like it's happening to you right you wake up in the morning and it feels like the world around you is constantly shifting pulling at your thoughts emotions and decisions you're bombarded by the endless stream of information expectations and worries and at times it feels like everything around you is real you wake up get caught in the rush of your day and everything seems to demand your attention but what if that much of this reality this constant mental chatter these worries fears and doubts isn't really real or you
at all the world you see the life you experience and the way you react to it is simply a creation of your own mind think about the last time you worried about something no I mean really worried about something when your heart started racing your mind went into overdrive and it felt so real but here's the truth most of the time those worries aren't grounded in what's happening right now they're simply projections of your mind mental images and stories you're telling yourself about a future that hasn't even happened yet and what's even crazier is that
you believe them you live in them you act as if they are true as if they are the reality you must live with but the reality is these are just thoughts and thoughts can change they're not the truth and yet most of us without even realizing it base entire sections of our lives on thoughts that are not connected to the present moment you're constantly living in your head constantly thinking about what will happen next or what happened before but never truly experiencing what's in front of you right now you think you're living in the real
world but in truth the world you're experiencing is filtered through your mind and the mind is a Storyteller constantly weaving stories about who you are what's happening and what will happen you believe those stories you believe that your worries are real that your fears are something you have to act on and that your anxieties are Justified because your mind tells you they are now think about this how often have you experienced something but afterward your mind told a different story about it coloring your perception a situation that seemed completely fine at the moment might later
feel wrong and you might have created a whole new interpretation that wasn't even based on reality this is why when you start to realize that what you see and feel is only your mind's interpretation of things you gain the power to change it you can choose to stop identifying with your thoughts and start observing them without getting lost in them when you detach from the mental narrative you're able to see that your reality isn't as fixed or unchangeable as you thought so if you could stop thinking just for once if you could stop stressing about
the future stop worrying about what might happen and just be present would it change the way you feel about everything what if you could step out of the mental story just for a moment it's not about stopping your thoughts altogether but recog izing that you're not bound to them you can let go of the unnecessary weight they carry what you thought was real might not actually be the truth you can create mental space to experience life as it is without the filters the projections and the stories when you become aware of the fact that your
thoughts are not who you are you break free from the mental chains that keep you trapped in worry there was a man named Josh Josh had been working at a tech startup for the past 3 years lately he'd been feeling overwhelmed he had a big presentation coming up and the pressure was starting to get to him the night before the presentation Josh couldn't sleep his mind was racing he kept thinking what if the presentation goes wrong what if they don't like my ideas these thoughts spiraled into more and more wh ifs keeping him up all
night feeling stressed and anxious by morning Josh was exhausted and full of doubt he arrived at the office late disheveled and already defeated by his own mind before the meeting even started now let me ask you this what did Josh do wrong was the fear he had truly grounded in reality or was it just a creation of his own mind Josh allowed his thoughts to take over and create scenarios that hadn't happened yet and because he didn't step back those thoughts controlled him when he walked into that presentation his exhaustion anxiety and self-doubt had already
set the stage for failure even before he spoke a word doesn't that sound familiar maybe not the exact same situation but have you ever found yourself in a similar cycle constantly worrying about things that might never even come to pass we all have our own version of Josh's story Maybe it's a job interview a difficult conversation or even something as simple as an upcoming event we think we know how it will go but our minds are usually jumping to conclusions and creating unnecessary worry so what can we learn from Josh's Story the first thing we
need to recognize is that we have the power to reframe our thinking Josh wasn't really facing any imminent danger yet his mind convinced him otherwise he allowed his imagination to run wild and in doing so created a situation that wasn't even real instead of focusing on all the potential problems and what could go wrong Josh had chosen to focus on what he could control his preparation his mindset his breath this is where the power of reframing comes in by simply shifting his perspective Josh could have chosen to focus on what he knew rather than what
he feared we all have the ability to challenge the stories our minds tell us when you catch yourself spiraling into a pattern of worry try to ask is this worry based on facts or is it just a mental projection of what could happen this is where cognitive reframing comes into play instead of worrying about things you can't control focus on what you can control your actions your attitude and your response to the situation this small shift in perspective can change the entire outcome of your experience in instead of worrying about failing focus on doing your
best instead of Imagining the worst focus on the present and what's in front of you now I know many of you might be thinking well I can't just stop worrying it's easier said than done and I get it worry can be a hard habit to break especially when life feels overwhelming but think about it how often have you worried about something only to find that the situation wasn't as bad as you thought maybe maybe it's work stress a tough conversation or a health concern we often waste so much time worrying about things that either never
happen or that we can handle when they do here's something you can try in those moments of worry take a deep breath slow down in those moments of stress slow down the thoughts instead of letting them run wild take a moment to sit with them let them come and go without judgment this brings us to mindfulness which is incredibly effective in reducing worry when we are present we remove ourselves from the future oriented anxiety and stop worrying about things that haven't even happened the power of your breath can stop the spiraling thoughts and bring you
back to the present for the second meditation spend just 5 minutes in silence focusing only on your breath when a thought comes let it pass by like a cloud in the sky if your mind starts to wander simply bring your focus back to the breath this practice helps train your mind to release attachment to worries and brings you back to what's real the present moment another tool is grounding techniques when you feel overwhelmed try focusing on what's around you touch something feel the texture of an object in your hand look around identify five things you
can see four things you can touch three things you can hear two things you can smell and one thing you can taste this pulls you out of your head and helps you reconnect with the Present Moment by learning to shift your focus you gain more control over your mental state you can step out of the mental spiral and take charge of how you experience your life the more you practice these techniques the easier it comes to stop living in a state of constant worry and when you're not tied to your worries you'll find that life
becomes more peaceful more manageable and more fulfilling [Music] [Music]
