there's been a bit of a trend over the last prob only year maybe two years for Riders to start using shorter cranks pagat are of course going down to 165 and he's a rider that so many people follow that I understand certain manufacturers group sets have started to run out of 165 mm cranks anyway I wanted to find out from some of the Riders here at the UAE women's tour what crank length they're using and whether it has come down in the last couple of years [Music] I'm going to start by asking you crank length
I know the answer to this actually cuz I saw your bite yesterday but tell the viewers yes so I'm on 160 cranks um have been for a couple of years now I think when you have little legs that helps um yeah but has it come down in length over the years that you've been riding yeah I think I started on about maybe 170 I want to say 165 um but I've never gone crazy big that's it's always being quite small uh yeah feel better with 160s yeah uh I can't say I feel a massive difference
I think that probably means that they're working just fine um yeah I I tend to do what I'm told so I've been told that's the best so I'll stick with that 170 from 14 years ago Harry Ru winner Alison Jackson it is a pleasure to meet you we met yesterday didn't we but that was for the first time uh I've got a few questions for you yes number one what's your your crank length uh 170 okay has that changed much over the years or you stuck with what you used to uh no I I did
used to have 175 1725 uh and actually in the last couple years went a little shorter and also a little shorter on the TT bike but I think I just started from like the guys that I rode with just like standard stock from the bike shop was 1725 and that's why I had that and then yeah trying out the a little shorter are you contemplating going short to still cuz that seems to be a trend no I think that's enough for me yet what what length did you in Ru on 1725 [Music] ah uh crank
length what crank link have you got now and has that changed over the course of your career yes I 170 now but I will try I would like to try this this winter already the 165 but uh because I was used to ride it on the track but uh yeah it was some difference some difficulties with the the with the delivery of it so uh that's why I still Ed the 170 so I think I changed it uh from the lotto times until to the W times and then I changed for 172 and a half
and then after it I changed to 170 and I'm still quite confident in it I think that's the patar effect everyone's trying to buy 165 there's none left Ashley what crank length are you running I'm running 165 um so I actually changed last season to the 165 crank and I'm really enjoying it now 170s before yeah I was 170s before um I used shorter on my TT bike but never thought of using it on the road bike um and yeah after discussion with my coach we decided um my talk is is really good so I
think that's usually like a a deciding factor um it's not necessarily always good for people to drop down to a shter crank length it's all got to do with your talk if you have high talk values then um yeah it could be a good option and since changing I'm really happy with it it's good to meet someone that knows why they've gone to sh to cranks rather than just being a fashion what crank length have you got now uh 170 has that always been the same uh no I've been riding also with bigger 172.5 yeah
you feel better on 170 yeah I think that's my length I tried also different ones but 170 is my L ofly what crank length are you running 165s and has that changed a lot over the years uh actually just over this winter then I went from 170 to 165s I think I had a bit of like instability in my pelvis so it kind of helped that what crank length have you got and has that changed uh currently I'm 165 I've ridden uh 170 I think for the last three or 4 years before that I was
172 and a half and uh yeah for me it's it's actually it helps me a bit with my comfort I have less uh pain on my back when I ride shorter cranks because it's less extreme in the movement so for me uh if I feel more comfortable I also feel that I can uh have better power in on the longterm so what crank Lings e running oh my God this is a good question let's check she doesn't what Craig size she what's yours Lizzy 165 I started it I've been doing I've been doing it for
years yes exactly I know Lizzy was the first one 165 I have but I meant the big like the size oh no not the chain ring ah the chain ring okay no 165 yes 165 have you changed that recently yes did last year feel better yes I I changed it in October so when I start we start training again and yes I feel good with it yes well rank length are you using 165 has that changed much it sounds like it has that's 5 mil shorter than I had before but I was always on the
170 so on the shorter end of uh of the scale anyway so not yeah shorter end for your height cuz how tall are you uh 186 so yeah yeah 6' one for uh for Old School uh old school people um yeah no I was always like the short cranks anyway so uh just kind a bit shorter but yeah so wasn't a big change actually for me what crank length are you using and has it changed in recent years oh God I didn't know you were going to ask me this kind of question um no I
think I'm still on 172 and a half like always no no thoughts of changing the should of cranks like a lot of people are doing uh maybe slightly but I'm quite comfy on what I've got to be honest what crank length are youing using 165 how's that changed from 170 so you used 170 most of your career and now down to 165 last four years I was on 170 now 165 you know uh I'm getting older so desperate uh desperate moves before 170 yeah last four years before that uh 72 and a half okay never
really big H um how tall are you 82 182 182 what length of Crank are you using uh 70 170 170 has that changed over your career or always the same um no we say always the same yes uh what crank length are you riding 175 I think so that hasn't changed no 17 2 and a half on the uh TT bike what crank length are you running and why uh 17 has it always been the same no I changed actually this season so um I'm curious what but it will bring in the races what
were you on before uh 172.5 so you have come down what crank length are you using 172 and a half I think so also I'm a normal guy yeah so you haven't changed that in your career either no I think yeah team was looking into it but uh we haven't changed yet so uh yeah I don't uh like to change make changes too often what crank length are you running and why I'm actually still quite old school I'm riding the 172 and half off still yeah actually because I always ride on it and I don't
want uh to change so much if everything is going well crank length are you using at the moment 170 and has that changed since you started yeah a little bit gone from 172 and a half to 170 yeah that feels better yeah you don't feel much of a difference but uh yeah does definitely does feel worse as you can probably tell from the noise the Riders are about to set off on their various crank links I hope you found that interesting have you changed your cranks at home courtesy of the new fashion let me know
in the comments section down below um I'm about to go and get some earplugs
