[Peter] Admittedly, there is no greater rivalry between a hero and a villain than the rivalry between Batman and the Joker. At best, there's no way. One is the greatest vigilante in comics, the other is the greatest psychopath in comics, who, incidentally, is always increasing the trail of bodies he leaves along the way, very psychopathic.
So after all, why doesn't Batman just kill the Joker? Worse than that, several times he has saved the Joker from certain death. Well, he doesn't kill, he saves!
Does Batman like the Joker? Come with me in this video and the answer will shock you, trust me! Let's go.
Hey Nerd, what's up? Peter here! I think everyone already knows that Batman has a firm moral code, he has a rule that can never be broken: “No Killing”.
There is even a famous phrase that people say around: “If I kill a murderer, the number of murderers in the world does not change”. “If I kill a murderer, the number of murderers in the world does not change. ” Because when you kill someone, you become a murderer too.
You even take a murderer out of the world, but you take his place as another murderer. It's a good catchphrase, but mathematically the accounts don't add up, if Batman killed the Joker thousands of innocent people would be saved. Batman sentences countless innocent people to death each time he locks the Joker in Arkham Asylum knowing that he will run away someday, as he always does, rather than killing the Joker once and for all.
You've certainly stopped to think about this, it was your doubt, you questioned Batman, didn't you? But what if I tell you that the situation is even worse than you think? The Joker has already been about to die several times and Batman saved him, even if he could have just let him die, but no, Batman preferred to do everything possible to save his greatest enemy.
It's not even a matter of not killing, it's also a matter of not letting die, it seems that's Batman's rule. Arlequina, for example, already filled the Joker with bombs, there it was certain death. All Batman had to do was leave, but he preferred to tell the Joker where his equipment was to defuse the bomb.
Bruce could just be QUIET and he would practically change the world, the Joker's terror would be over. But he wanted to save the guy. In fact, there have been situations even weirder than this one, Batman has even knelt down to pray with the Joker just to stop him from killing himself.
What's the logic of that? The Joker's death was used as blackmail, it was clearly something Batman didn't want to happen. So is Batman really so dumb that he can't do this basic math that he's letting the Joker murder people while the two of them play cat and mouse forever?
Can't Batman just stop and do a quick calculation? No, we know that Batman is the smartest person in the world. So the only explanation is that these two like each other.
At least the Joker has admitted several times that he loves Batman, I'm not talking about a romantic and sexual love I'm talking about a platonic love. The Joker knows that all that gives his life meaning is Batman. And he also already had clear opportunities to kill Batman and he didn't, on the contrary, he saved Batman at those times, because he knows he needs Batman to justify his own existence, he needs Batman to run after him, beat him up he, he likes it, he loves it.
As for Bruce, things are a little different, but he has the same idea about needing the other. There's no way Bruce knows that he can't let the Joker die, because the Joker is what gives meaning to the moral battle he fights inside himself all the time. Batman NEEDS those dilemmas inside of him, he needs the trauma, the post-traumatic stress and all that negative stuff, so he can continue justifying what he does.
This may seem absurd, but you need to understand that Batman, despite being a hero, is not a NORMAL man, a mentally healthy human being, he has mental problems, disorders, traumas. He doesn't even consider himself a man anymore, he doesn't consider himself Bruce Wayne, Bruce Wayne is a disguise, an act, his true identity is Batman, he's something else. He is a symbol, and as a symbol he cannot be what his enemies are.
No wonder that the common thread of everything Batman does was the death of his parents when he was a child, he saw his parents being murdered, and it was at that moment that he understood how powerful the act of taking a life is. Batman cannot afford to become what he was born to fight. So that messes with his psychology a lot.
And the Joker is the ultimate reminder of that, it's what keeps Batman on that fine line between crossing and not crossing the line. As long as the Joker lives, Batman knows he is making the right decisions, because he knows that among all the villains, the Joker is the easiest to kill, he is the one who has no way, there is no cure, he is the closest of "deserving death". And yet Batman doesn't cross the line, because from then on, if he did it with the Joker, why not do it with other serial killers?
Why not do that with all the other villains? So as sick as it sounds, Batman can't let the Joker go because the Joker is his moral compass, fighting the Joker means fighting the urge to kill. All I've said are things that have already been explained in the comics, but the real magic of the interaction of these two is that a lot is not revealed, this is one of the graces behind the history and psychology of Batman and the Joker, there is a lot of mystery.
Maybe Batman is even crazier than we think and somehow he also developed an affection, a love for the Joker, or even a dependence on having someone to hate. Suddenly, he loves to hate the joker, have you thought about that? It's just like Batman to nurture trauma and negative feelings to justify his own fight.
Now, truth be told, these are the reasons within the canon, within the story, already outside Batman and the Joker are not killed simply because they make a lot of money, every month these two characters are filling DC Comics' ass with money, without exaggeration, Batman generates more profit than virtually all other DC comics combined. So we're hardly going to spend an era at DC where there isn't a Batman and a Joker, this pursuit between the two is eternal. What do you think about all this?
Do you think Batman had to kill the Joker, the Joker had to kill with Batman? Or do you think this chemistry between the two has to continue and has to be taken to the movies? Do you have any explanation as well why Batman doesn't kill the Joker and the Joker doesn't kill Batman?
Comment down here, it will be very important. Now one last question: if you were Batman, would you have killed the Joker? This one I want to see.
