deal for Arctic security it involves new ships drones and satellite surveillance but is it really about the Arctic or is it about deterring Donald Trump from going after Greenland our next report has the details Denmark has announced a new security spending package it's worth 14.6 billion Danish Kona which comes up to a little over 2 billion USD Copenhagen says that the new package is for Arctic security Denmark is one of the eight members of the Arctic Council it's an intergovernmental forum for countries with land inside the Arctic Circle but Denmark doesn't actually have land within
the Arctic Circle it's only claimed to representation there is an autonomous territory Greenland Denmark's new Security package heavily involves Greenland it's a partnership between Denmark Greenland and another autonomous territory the Pharaoh Islands the message is clear Denmark wants the world to know that it still holds Greenland and it's ready to defend it now ordinarily this message would have been for Western Rivals like Russia and China but these days Denmark has a new headache from within the Western coalition the problem is their big brother the United States or rather the new US president Donald Trump trump

so yesterday it announced the new Arctic Security package and the new package seems ordinary at first first glance Denmark announced three new Arctic ships long range drones and increased satellite surveillance again not enough to deter an invasion from a hostile Force but it did get a positive reaction from greenlandic authorities Greenland's foreign minister said I'm pleased that with this partial agreement we have taken the first step towards strengthening Security in and around Greenland so the Danes have got the greenlanders on board however one crucial aspect of defense spending was not discussed something that could actually
