hi i'm ivy the occultist and today we're going to be talking about how to cast a circle we're going to talk about what it means to cast a circle and a couple different methods of circle casting and at the end of this video i will show you my method of how to cast a circle which is probably the easiest most simple way that you could cast circles so without further ado let's begin let's start with the most basic concept what is a circle and why would you want to cast a circle in your spells in
rituals when you are casting a circle you are essentially creating sacred space and the reason why people cast circles is to essentially keep things in and to keep things out it depends on your tradition and your background but typically casting a circle is a means of creating some sort of protective barrier around whatever working it is you're doing whether that's a spell or a ritual etc and it also keeps everything contained inside that barrier so when you are casting a circle it's important to note that you are keeping things out you are only inviting in
the type of energy the type of magical entities that you want into your sacred space and everything else is on the outskirts they are not able to interfere with your spell or ritual some people might believe in trickster spirits or um some you know swirls of negative energy however you want to look at that whether you believe in spirit or energy etc and so when you're casting a circle you are essentially blocking them out any sort of trickster spirit or anything that might come in and mess with your working or mess with your spell and
ritual that you don't want messing with your working so it's really nice to create that sacred space and you can also use it to invoke your ancestors your gods and goddesses etc into this bubble with you without the influence of anything in the external world so as i said previously casting a circle keeps things out that you don't want to be in your magical space while you perform that spell or ritual and it also keeps things in things keeps things contained because when you're doing a spell or ritual especially if it's a more elaborate ritual
with a lot of different working parts you really want to well it depends on you i guess in your opinion of this but most people would want to contain that energy until it is complete and then send it out in one blast of energy rather than like let's say you have a spell that is really long you have a bunch of different moving pieces while you're doing that spell over the course of 20 minutes 30 minutes however long it takes to cast that spell you don't want that energy leaking out while you're doing your working
and going into the universe for manifestation until you've completed it until you've finished all those moving pieces so that they are a cohesive message that you're sending to the universe it's kind of similar to cooking a dish in your kitchen let's say you are making a lasagna or something and you are cooking the the meat or if you're vegetarian you know some vegetables or something and you're layering all the pastas you don't want a bunch of people coming in and tasting your food until it's been in the oven until it's baked until all the spices
have melded together because obviously that lasagna is going to taste very different after it's been baked and finished when you're eating it then if somebody were to come in while you were making that lasagna and take bits and pieces from it so it's kind of the same idea with your elaborate spells and rituals if you are doing the longer spell you want to have all of those pieces cohesive and completed before you send them out into the universe for manifestation so casting a circle keeps everything contained and when you're done with your speller ritual you
can take the circle down and send out that that energy in a blast for manifestation so that is a quick guide to um circle casting as far as what it is and why you might want to cast a circle now let's get into how to cast a circle now as the title suggests this is a very very quick guide to circle casting there are many different ways to cast a circle and it primarily depends on the tradition you're practicing from obviously somebody who is wiccan versus somebody who's an eclectic witch is going to differ when
they cast circles especially if you get into different types of ceremonial magic there are different perspectives on how to cast a circle so typically within more ceremonial magic scenes when somebody asked me how do you cast a circle my answer is always how ceremonial do you want to go because you can go really ceremonial if you want to but within ceremonial magic there's typically some sort of altar that's set up in the center of wherever that circle is going to be and typically they um there is some sort of directions or invoking of the guardians
of the north south east west and so on this altar you would have the north something symbolizing earth and in the east you would have something symbolizing air in the south you would have something symbolizing fire and in the west you would have something symbolizing water and what people would do within ceremonial magic is they would start by facing east typically again this is controversial depending on your practice and what you what you prefer to do but people would typically start by facing east they would invoke the guides or the guardians of the east of
the air element and then they would walk around the altar in a clockwise fashion and then they would go to south and then they would invoke or evoke depending on your opinion on that the guardians of the um of fire of south et cetera and they would continue walking clockwise around the altar invoking all these different elements and directions that method is typically called calling the quarters because you are calling northeast southwest but again that totally depends on your practice your tradition and then when they take the circle down within ceremonial magic you basically do
everything backwards you start in the north and go counter-clockwise around your altar all the way back to east so that is a more ceremonial version of it and i know this is a like i said a very quick guide so if you were interested in that type of circle casting i highly recommend that you do further research on this subject what i'm telling you right now is definitely not enough information to get going with that but i did want to say that there are other methods available than the method that i will be showing you
a little bit later in this video i am not a ceremonial magician anymore i used to be heavy into ceremonial magic and it's just not my flavor anymore nothing wrong with it it just you got to do what resonates with your own soul right so i'm a little bit more of a eclectic chaos switch now but i'm going to show you the simplest easiest quickest way to cast a circle so let's go into that next now before you cast a circle you're definitely going to want to know how to center and ground your energy i've
already made a video on this and i will link it down below if you haven't seen that video yet but you're going to start casting this circle by centering your energy so again check out that video if you're not familiar with that concept but you're going to want to bring your energy from all the different areas of your body into the center of your being that way it is collected it is less chaotic and it's easier to manipulate so after centering your energy you're going to imagine a bright light in the center of your being
and this light can be gold blue violet whatever color it is for you everyone's energy looks a little bit different mainly my energy is a gold light that's what i envision but you do what works best for you you're going to imagine this bright light in the center of your being start to explode outward and fill up your entire body and you can definitely practice some relaxation techniques here as well taking some deep breaths trying to clear your mind and once you have that bright light that has filled your entire body you're going to push
that light out beyond your body you're going to push it past your shoulders out until it fills the entire room or the space in which that you would like to cast this circle and so you have this light that is essentially filled the entire space at that point you can choose to chant something here if you want to you don't have to i typically chant something like within this circle within this space i call upon my guides to protect and keep me safe all that is not welcome must leave so i typically chant that three
times and if i'm feeling like i want to bring in my ancestors or any other spiritual guides then i will call upon them asking them inviting them into the circle essentially to be with me in that moment and after you've done your chanting if you choose to chant and after you've brought in whatever guides you would like to work with for your spell or ritual you're going to imagine a shield come up around the light that you've created so that light again has expanded beyond your body and filled up the entire room or whatever space
it is that you would like to create and you're going to visualize this shield forming around it and that is your circle that is the quickest easiest way to do it now if you have to leave your space if you say you forgot something downstairs and you need to run downstairs really quick to go grab an ingredient for your spell you're probably going to want to cut a door for yourself and this is where it gets a little tricky and controversial because some people believe in this some people don't so if you are in sacred
space you've created that shield for yourself you don't necessarily want to get up and walk away because that kind of negates the sacred space that you've created for yourself you want to respect that sacred space and so if you need to leave then what you would do is you would essentially cut open a door you can use an athame or you can use i mean your wand your finger whatever you want to use whatever works for you but you would cut open yourself a door walk through the door and then you would seal the door
so that way when you're gone this space still remains sacred and then you can run downstairs you can grab whatever items you need run back upstairs cut yourself open a little door in the circle step in and close the door again because again you want to make sure that you are respecting this sacred space that you have created now we get into the part of how to take a circle down how to take a circle down after you've performed your spell you've performed your ritual you're ready to take it all down within again this depends
on whatever tradition you follow but if you did the um the version that i typically use which is the light filling up the room and the shield forming around your circle you're essentially going to take a moment to thank any guides that you may have pulled into your circle thank them for their presence and then you're going to visualize that shield dissolving and your light retracting back into your body because you never want to deplete yourself right like if you expended some energy you're going to need some energy to restore that supply so bring your
energy back into the center of your being and again if you're not familiar with centering check out that video because you are going to want to release your center at this point you're going to want to release that energy and let it flood evenly throughout the rest of your body and that's it pretty simple so let me know what you think about this method i'd also be really curious to know oh my gosh the sun whoa the sun's coming out i would be curious to know what you use for your methods do you cast circles
in a different fashion and if you do how do you do that um thank you so much for watching this video i'll see you in a video very soon bye
