when Ashley had adopted a pregnant golden Chow set to be put down she had done it because she believed that those unborn puppies deserved to see the world but when her dog finally gave birth she was left absolutely shocked by what she saw the sound of her ringtone shook Ashley from a deep Restless sleep she had barely opened her eyes and yet she immediately recognized the number on the screen it was the pet shelter she often volunteered at a week ago she had taken in a litter of stray cats and was pretty sure they were
about to ask her another favor she was contemplating ignoring the call when the video of a golden Chow popped up on her screen Ashley could never resist this site and with a deep sigh she finally answered her phone as soon as she heard her voice the shelter volunteer begged her to take an Ava whose name was on the list for euthanasia because of a lack of space she had less than two hours left to be adopted and things were not looking up for her the moment Ashley saw Ava all resistance crumbled a another animal who
needed temporary shelter would not disrupt family life that much she capitulated however there was still some important information the shelter needed to share with the foster mom Ava was highly pregnant and would give birth soon the shelter could not determine the exact size of the potential litter being her a mix between a Golden Retriever and a Chow Chow but one thing was sure those puppies were going to be gorgeous other people might have viewed this additional information in a negative light but that made Ashley all the more determined to make a difference so she took
a deep breath and in a split second agreed to take Ava in there was no way she was going to allow a lack of space to become the reason for a beautiful and healthy dog's death especially if she was about to bring puppies to the world her driving could almost be classified as Reckless as Ashley rushed to get to the shelter the moment she saw Ava she knew she had done the right thing she was a little surprised to see how huge this mom-to-be was her knowledge of various dog breeds made her aware that golden
retrievers could have up to a dozen babies while Chows only had between three and six puppies at a time by splitting the difference she could expect about six puppies to feed and take care of had she bitten off a little more than she could chew she suddenly wondered Ashley was a dedicated mom who had three children of her own and they were already a handful to manage in addition she also had several little kittens currently roaming her place the kids were preparing for summer school and much of the responsibility would be upon her to manage
her own animal foster system her strong sense of compassion gave her the motivation to open up her home for animals like Ava and her puppies but sometimes she couldn't help but feel she was trying to save the world on her own still she felt like it was her duty to do her part so she coaxed Ava into her car and drove home where she built a little shelter for her to rest in two weeks is a very short time to build trust with a stray dog Ava had little time to learn to fully trust Ashley
and her family but when the expectant mom started dragging some fabric to the whelping box Ashley had prepared she knew it was time Ava went into labor on the evening of June 25th 2017 confident that her human foster mom would be more than capable of assisting with the birthing process Ashley could see how the contractions increased in intensity just past 10 pm the first puppy appeared still covered in placenta Ava instinctively removed the amniotic sac and started cleaning her firstborn in the next hour four more pups emerged to join the growing family although it did
not look like the mom was suffering too much during labor it was no easy feat to deliver her babies into the world thankfully Ava trusted Ashley enough to allow her to help and touch her babies Ashley did not have an accurate count of the number of puppies to be expected but it was clear that the birthing process wasn't over yet so she sat still and waited Ava seemed to be exhausted after the first five and took a little break although Ashley remained calm the anticipation was taking its toll unexpectedly Ava suddenly had puppy number six
just before midnight it almost seemed like she was done but just after 12 33 am she quickly delivered a seventh pup finally it was time to rest the labor had gone well and all the puppies looked healthy and happy the new mother was exhausted and was making herself ready for a well-deserved recuperation rest while they quietly nursed from her with Ava herself cleaned up properly and the betting changed the animal family as well as their human Fosters could finally call it a night Ashley was equally exhausted but before she could go to bed she needed
to clean up a little Ava had lost a little more blood than what she had expected since she was a stray dog no one knew if this was her first litter or if she had had health complications in the past still Ashley felt relieved that the mommy on death row was actually healthy enough to give birth to seven beautiful pups before Ashley finally fell as sleep she thought of her involvement with the Midwest Animal Rescue organization in Raytown Missouri this young woman with a compassionate nature and a penchant for saving animals had already made her
own Mark in this community and was pretty sure she would be able to find suitable homes for all the little dogs currently sleeping in her home Ava and her pups would most assuredly be the Talk of the Town for the next few days at the crack of dawn the following morning Ashley's kids were up they couldn't wait to meet the new temporary additions to their family Ashley's son was the first one to get down to the basement where Ava and her family were staying she was following at a slower sleepier Pace but a hysterical shout
suddenly compelled her to rush downstairs why did her son sound so shocked had Ava died during the night her heart was beating out of her chest when she entered the basement and what she saw left her completely speechless Ashley could hardly believe her own eyes during the night another eight babies that arrived Ava had done it all on her own delivering an astounding 15 puppies who all seemed healthy and doing well Ashley quick did all she could to help Ava recuperate her strength before shifting her attention to her own human kids they were on their
way to summer school and there was little time to waste so they reluctantly had to leave the basement as soon as the kids had been dropped off Ashley and her husband rushed home again to assist Ava and her puppies but what awaited them in the basement was even more astounding while the family was away Ava had given birth to yet another three pups the total head count now was 18. Ashley was simply in awe of this mom she couldn't even begin to think that if she had not interfered with the proposed euthanasia she would have
been responsible for the death of 19 dogs such remarkable dogs needed remarkable names Ashley's son was a fan of the Kansas City Royals and opted to name the dogs after a few of them Ned Yost Dayton Moore and buck O'Neill were but a few of the amazing players to be honored by loaning their names to this special litter of pups the golden Chows had the privilege of being fostered with great passion and care for the first eight weeks of their lives unfortunately one of them passed away a few days after the birth the vet who
assisted the family explained how common it was to lose the puppy among such numerous litters and yet Ashley still felt devastated when it gave its last breath during the eight weeks the puppies lived with her family they were properly socialized and medically examined to ensure that they were adoption ready the moment that the phone started to ring for a little while the Royal pups were famous on Facebook where their adorable pictures circulated to promote adoption then the princesses and princes were all shipped to permanent homes fit for their Royal status and nicknames they owe their
