[Music] the right to education and Healthcare is a fundamental human right critical for promoting the well-being and dignity of people and for them to reach their full potential access to these basic Services is essential for overcoming poverty and fostering healthy lives this is especially relevant across Africa which is at a critical Turning Point towards sustainable development however corruption often stands in the way this prevents us from getting the needed treatment vaccines or safely delivering a baby it also takes away our chances for learning skills gaining knowledge and developing critical thinking corruption steals our future and
it disproportionately affects marginalized groups women girls and other groups at risk of discrimination such as persons with disabilities and the lgbtqi plus Community are usually more reliant on public services facing even more exposure to corruption resulting in bigger inequalities transparency International's research shows that countries that score better in the corruption perceptions index have more transparent and accountable public services our research highlights that virtually every process in the education and health sectors be it procurement of textbooks recruitment of Staff or access to maternal Health Care are vulnerable to specific forms of corruption to address these risks
it is essential that governments and public institutions facilitate the inclusive participation of Civil Society local communities and marginalized groups in the delivery of education and Health [Music] Services service providers need robust code of conducts and training on what is expected from them they also need to establish safe gender sensitive reporting systems for Citizens especially for women girls and whistleblowers to expose the prevalence of sexual corruption several soci society and Community initiatives should engage citizens to demand transparency and accountability and policy makers at National Regional and Global levels should advocate for recognizing the discriminatory nature of
corruption including its gendered forms like sexual corruption as a threat to effective Service delivery and development progress together we can fight corruption and ensure everyone has access to Quality Education and healthc Care fostering a brighter more Equitable future for us all
