tumbling those tariffs kicked in at midnight last night new 25% tariffs on all Goods coming into the United States from Mexico and Canada and an additional 10% tariff on goods from China the Dow plunging 670 points today dropping more than 1300 points in two days now wiping out the gains the market had seen since the inauguration Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tonight vowing Canada will not back down saying we did not want this and addressing the American people directly saying your government is doing this to you Trudeau now imposing retaliatory tariffs on American Goods entering Canada Mexico's president Shane bomb saying Mexico will impose retaliatory tariffs on us Goods coming into Mexico starting Sunday and tonight China calling Trump's actions bullying Behavior also retaliating with an additional T to 15% tariff on American Goods coming into China tonight from Target to Best Buy the stores here in the US already warning Americans that prices will go up on everything from groceries to clothing to cars ABC's chief White House correspondent Barry Bruce leading us off from the White House tonight as the president prepares to address the nation the Dow plunging for the second day in a row now down 1,300 points in two days as Trump's new tariffs ignite a trade War the president imposing a sweeping new 25% tax on all Goods coming into the US from Mexico and Canada America's largest trading partners Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau quick to respond I want to speak first directly to the American people we don't want this we want to work with you as a friend and Ally and we don't want to see you hurt either but your government has chosen to do this to you as of this morning markets are down and inflation is set to rise dramatically all across your country your government has chosen to put American jobs at risk economists warn that with these tariffs it's the American businesses who will pay for the products coming into the country and pass those costs onto American consumers by one estimate the average household will spend up to $2,000 more a year year on everything from produce to clothes to electronics today Target CEO warning Americans could see prices rise almost immediately on fruits and vegetables imported from Mexico no those are categories where we'll try to protect pricing but the consumer will likely see price increases over the next couple of days American farmers could soon be feeling the pain too Canada now responding with plans for their own 25% tariff against $155 billion worth of American Goods Canadians are reasonable and we are polite but we will not back down from a fight not when our country and the well-being of everyone in it is at stake around the country the anxiety among small business owners palpable in Chicago Marco Rodriguez owns a chain of candy stores that have been in his family for over 30 years scary I mean it's a scary time in our business um everything you see around us is either imported by ourselves or we bought by ourselves and made in Mexico Trump has also imposed an additional 10% tariff on products from China Heidi Skelton says that will drive up prices at her clothing store in Westwood New Jersey I'm paying rent employees paying for the clothing so I will have no other option really but to pass some of the charges onto my customers China now retaliating with an additional 10 to 15% tariffs on some us Goods including chicken wheat soybeans and beef and calling Trump's actions bullying Behavior Mexico's president Claudia Shane bomb saying she will announce retaliatory tariffs on Sunday Trump tonight prepared to Double Down saying he'll fight back with even more tariffs an approach we can expect him to tout in his speech tonight tariffs are easy they're fast they're efficient and they bring fairness tariffs have long been a Cornerstone of the president's economic policies and he's offered a wide range of reasons for why he feels these new tariffs are necessary the big question now how much pain might Americans feel from this and will he prepare them for that in his speech tonight David Mary I will see you a short time from in the studio tonight and Martha president zalinski ALS also offering praise about President Trump in this statement it's very clear that ziny thought these are words that President Trump needs to hear he was clearly speaking right to president Trump because losing that Aid is a gut punch for president zalinski and if that lasted for several months it would have a profound effect on the war so tonight he is heaping Praise on the US saying on X how thankful he is for American Support singling out president Trump for sending Javelin missiles to Ukraine in his first term and adding our meeting at the White House on Friday did not go the way it was supposed to it is regrettable that it happened this way it is time to make things right again stressing his gratitude to president Trump and saying Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible he also said he's willing to finalize that mineral deal that they tried to do last Friday we'll see if it's enough for Lee this storm is massive indeed David I mean from the Canadian border all the way down to the Gulf Coast a classic Clash between winter and spring it's leading to severe weather active tornado warning near New Orleans west side of Lake pona train the tornado watch was just extended until 1:00 in the morning the threat goes from Louisiana to Mississippi into Alabama part of that massive storm its wind alerts across about a third of the country and blizzard warnings across parts of the Midwest into tonight let's time it it'll move across Alabama Georgia Florida Panhandle tonight then that storm will start to reach the Mid-Atlantic and the East Coast as we go through the morning hours tomorrow that's an enhanced threat for damaging winds all the way from Charleston up to norick even severe weather up to DC then later tomorrow it's a Squall line Philly to New York City all the way to New England late in the day it could be a nasty evening commute in the Northeast David Lee Goldberg with us tonight as well Lee thank you next tonight here 30 officers are facing charges for allegedly staging so-called Gladiator fights among juvenile detainees tonight you'll see the stunning video right here prosecutors accusing them of organizing fights involving 143 teenagers here's Trevor alal tonight 30 Los Angeles County Detention officers charged for allegedly facilitating these so-called Gladiator fights between juvenile detain knees this video capturing multiple fights at the center of the case watching the video the officers look more like referees or audience members at a prize fight not adults charged with the care and supervision of young people one officer even seen on video shaking the hands of one of the juveniles after a brawl the Attorney General says from June to December of 2023 there were 69 fights involving 143 teenagers the youngest just 12 12 years old the officer now facing charges ranging from child abuse and Battery to conspiracy according to court documents in one day the officers allowed nine one-on-one fights to occur claiming two of the officers told new detention Services officers that they were not to say anything and just watch when fights occurred the officers don't step in don't intervene and don't protect their charges and the laa County parole department says all current staff who have been charged are now on leave without pay David Trevor all tonight Trevor thank you this evening our team on the scene during an immigration raid in Virginia our Rachel Scott there as agents moved in from Ice the FBI and well this target here um was wanted for sexual assault and for battery multiple re-entries into the country but also in the home his two American children and his brother who authorities say is also families could be seated there is consequences and um we're giving him time to leave these children with someone else the Department of Homeland Security says they handle these situations involving
