Manual do Mundo was challenged by Rexona
to test the efficiency of this deodorant. But since we are exaggerated, and we like that you learn something
with our videos, we decided to sweat it and teach you how to do a racing go-kart. I'll start doing a basic car, one that is simple and easy
to make at home.
For that, you need ball bearings,
like these. You can buy them at
auto parts stores. This is a ball bearing for trucks,
but this one is expensive.
We paid around R$25,00
in each bearing. You can go to a car repair shop, because sometimes they throw it out or
can sell them for a cheap price. Now this is something important:
they don't have to be equal.
But the back ball bearings have to be equals;
the same goes to the ones in the front. That is, you need matching ball
bearings to the back and two equals to the front. Another ironwork that you need
is a screw with bolts.
This screw is 10 cm long X 1 cm thick. I'm also using 4 washers and you will
understand why in a moment. You also need two axis, to attach the ball bearings on the edges.
The ideal is for the axis to be thicker
than the bearing hole. In this case, this axis is 4 cm X 4 cm
and 65 cm long. And, last but not least, you need a board.
I'm using this board, which is
20 cm wide X 1,20 m long. The ideal is to use good wood.
I'm using Cedar, which is this one.
It is stronger than Pine,
which is a more common wood, and it is the one used on
Manual do Mundo's panel. But it is kind of soft. Let's do this!
Let's start by the most boring part, which
is fitting the bearing in the axis. For this I am going to wear the wood
down using rough sandpaper. But you can use a utility knife,
a saw or an emery.
Then you just hammer the bearings
in the places you wore the wood down. Now, I need to attach these
axes on the board. The back is easy.
I mark 5 cm at the end of board, drill, glue and screw. On the front is a little bit more complicated. Mark 15 cm at the end of the wood, place a support wood
for more resistance.
and then drill a hole on the kart
and on the axis. Now screw everything.
But between the axis and the kart, you need to place two washers.
And below the screw head and the bolts too. If we were making just a simple
go-kart, this would be already enough. But we want a
racing kart!
Let's start placing a base for the seat, using two boards 20 cm X 26 cm long. On the first board, screw above the base using to supports so you don't
force the back axis. The second one you
just glue and screw.
On the front, I will place a third board, a Pine one, 30 cm X 60 cm.
This is where the hand support will be. The base is ready, and the cockpit
we are making with these two boards.
They are 30 cm wide X 40 cm long,
with this cut. I am attaching these boards
on the seat sides and then I'll place as a back support a Pine board Pinus 42 cm wide X 30 cm long If we want to make this kart run, we have to install breaks on this thing. For that, let's use wood pieces, about 5 cm wide X
38 cm long.
First, round off the kart base. Then, wear down the wood to make it
better to hold on to, drill a hole in the middle of it,
drill a hole on the side of the kart and attach with screws on both sides
of the seat. Finally, it's time to make this look
like a real racing go-kart.
For that, I am attaching two airfoils. Airfoils are those pieces that work like
an airplane wing, but on the other way around. Instead of making the car take off,
they make the car stick to the ground.
The airfoil is 20 cm X 65 cm,
the same width of the axes. On the front, use glue with hot glue
and a 15 cm support. On the back also use the hot glue, but use a bigger support, 45 cm.
It is almost looking good. It is time to turn it into a Lotus. Let's hit the track!
Pit stop. . .
Are you alive? More or less. .
. At least you smell good! It does not leave you!
