[Music] [Music] Hello everyone and welcome to learn public health with Isaac. And in today's video I will teach you how to write a research proposal. A lot of students find this topic hard but I will make it simple and interesting.
We'll look at what a research proposal is, why is it important, and how you can light one step by step using clear examples. So whether you are a student doing a project or someone applying for funding, this video is for you. So let's get started.
What is a research proposal? A research proposal is a short document that tells others what you want to study, why the study is important, and how you will do the study. Think of it like a plan before building a house.
You can't start building until you show the drawing. The good example I can give is that if I want to study why some people in rural areas don't use mosquito nets, I must explain what the problem is, how I will correct data and what I hope to find out. That's what goes into the proposal.
But why is a research proposal important? So you need a research proposal because your teacher or supervisor must approve your topic. It helps you stay organized and focused.
So it shows that you thought carefully about your topic. So if you're asking for money or permission to do your research, the proposal explains what you plan to do in a way that makes people say yes, this is a good idea. Let's talk about the main parts of a research proposal.
So a research proposal should have a title, introduction or background. It should have objectives, literature review, methodology. It should have a budget and timeline as well as differences.
The title is the name of your research. It should be clear and tell the leader what the research is about. For example, assessing malaria prevention in Ulo areas, a study of Sansia district.
Background or introduction. This is where you talk about the problem you want to study. Explain what is happening, who it affects, and why we should care.
For example, malaria is still a big problem in many villages. People get sick, miss work, and sometimes even die. Even though they are mosquito nets, many people still get malaria.
Why is that? So in this section, hand it with your research question like why is malaria still common in Sthia even when people have mosquito on it? Objectives.
Here you write what you want to achieve. General objective, what is the big goal, specific objectives, what small steps will help you reach the goal? For example, jello objective to start the reason why Maria is still common.
Specific objectives to check if people are using mosquitoes properly. to find out if people understand our malaria spreads to look at what health messages are shared in the community. Literature review.
This means you read what other people have written about your topic. What do we already know about the problem? What is missing?
For example, many studies in Zambia have looked at malaria but not many have focused on lulo areas like Sthia. So some people write about the net but few explains how people use them. So this section shows that your study is important and new methodology.
So this part explains how you do the research. Here is what to include. So you you are going to include stud area, study design, target population, sampling method, data correction tools, data analysis as well as ethical issues.
For example, this study will be done in Sia district LLA province. It will be a descriptive cross-sectional study, meaning it corrects data at one point in time. Target population mother aged 14 to 45 in three villages.
Sampling method 50 mothers will be selected using random sampling. Data correction tools. I'm going to use questionaires and interviews.
Data analysis. Data will be entered in Excel and analyzed to find patterns. Ethical issues.
Consent will be obtained. People's name will not be written and all answers will be kept private. Budget and timeline.
You must show how much your study will cost and how long it will take. Budget example transport 400 printing questionaires 100 quasha air time and data 150 quer and then in total 650 quasha. So timeline example let's say you plan week one you prepare a proposal week two correct data week three analyze data and then week four write final report at the end of your proposal write all the books websites and articles you used.
So, let me give you final tips for a strong proposal. First, use clear and simple language. Don't write too much, just enough to explain your point.
Don't copy and paste. Always use your own words. Ask a friend, a lecturer, or a mentor to check it for you.
Use edings to organize your proposal. And that's how you write a research proposal. If you need a free sample, just comment below.
