[Music] Victor explains that he spent a day in nature near the our River and began to feel better the following morning he felt his depression coming back and went out again into nature climbing in the mountains and the glaciers that partly covered them moved by this remembrance he quotes to Walt in the last eight lines of Percy's poem mutability returning to his narrative he explains that he walked out on the glacier and upon looking at the magnificent scene of Montana and Mont Blanc he felt something like joy he then saw what he assumed to be
a man running towards him with superhuman speed as the figure came closer Victor realized it was the monster Victor violently rejected the monster calling it the devil he tried to attack and kill the monster but was too slow nevertheless the monster convinced Victor to hear what he had to say he said I ought to be Adam but I am rather the fallen angel whom thou drivest from joy for no misdeed he asked Victor to help him to make him happy and described his loneliness he threatened Victor saying that Victor must know his story before giving
judgment Victor realized that he had not upheld the duties of a creator he also wanted to confirm his suspicions that the monster was his brother's murderer they went to the monsters Hut so the monster could tell his story the monsters plea that he should be Adam but instead as the fallen angel alludes to Paradise Lost the fallen angel is Lucifer the angel God cast out after he tried to seize control of heaven better to reign in Hell than serve in heaven as Satan says the monster is fallen like Satan he should have been Victor's finest
creation but instead he has become Victor's greatest failure and is rejected furthermore he is not like Adam because Victor did not give him a mate equating himself with Adam then foreshadows the demand that he will make to Victor he wrongly compares himself to Satan who is fallen because he tried to overthrow God the monster initially does nothing wrong but Victor punishes him anyway in this scenario Victor is God the monster is suggesting that Victor should have cared for him as God does for all his creations earlier in the novel Victor feared the monster because of
his hideous appearance the fact that the monster speaks of and alludes to Paradise Lost shows that he has acquired language and great learning both of which make him a far more formidable foe than his mere brute strength and endurance did Victor rightly fears the monsters intelligence and cunning [Music]
