left her initially embracing long-term work from home many tech companies have started urging employees to come back to the office sometimes with employees pushing back but this may actually turn the tide Google reportedly putting its Tech foot down and ordering more people to come back to the office more often let's bring in our business and Tech reporter Scott budman Scott well Geo the will they or won't they dilemma has hit big tech companies especially hard after all they paid for those big Tech campuses and lots of employee perks but so far many of those tech
companies say their employees have been resistant to returning to the office but this week CNBC says it discovered that Google has updated its hybrid work policy to be less hybrid and more come back to the office reportedly going as far as tracking attendance as in who badges in talking more to employees about the company's want and need to bring people back to the office and including it as a talking point in performance reviews now this is is the Dilemma many smaller tech companies have been facing for months like Mountain View software maker ignite I spoke
earlier today to the CEO about why he too is urging people to come back to the office and why he applauds Google's move uh there is absolutely a direct impact to productivity enhancement when people are together even if it's not five days a week but I would say three days a week because what you can accomplish doing chalk talk or whiteboarding together can never be substituted with any kind of electronic means of communication especially on a two-dimensional screen okay so Scott a lot of people wondering will this work you know people got used to working
from home but when Google does something people kind of follow so what happens you're very right Google was one of the first to say shut down work from home we want to keep it safe and a lot of the other companies followed now they're bringing people back others will probably follow Gia but you're right people have gotten used to it and the incentives of hey we're going to check badges or talk about it in performance reviews is one step the idea that Google among other tech companies has laid off tens of thousands of workers is
probably going to put that bug in the back of people's minds like hey if my boss is a laying people off and B asking me to come back maybe I'll come back so I'm guessing that will be the incentive that will eventually bring people back to the office all right I guess we'll see Scott thank you things definitely change
