Hi, everyone! This is Susu! How have you been?
I arrived in France in August. I'll probably be living in France for a few years, so I did a lot of preparation before moving! I had so much luggage that it was really exhausting at the airport.
But I was so excited to start my life in France that the travel time just flew by. The weather was beautiful when I arrived! For the first few days, I woke up early because of the jet lag.
Since I love bread, I went to a bakery every day for a few days after arriving in France. For my first breakfast, I had bread, an apple, and coffee. Then I started unpacking the things I brought from Korea.
I especially brought a lot of food! There was so much, but I managed to organize everything neatly! After unpacking, I had pasta for lunch.
My boyfriend's parents made lunch and brought it to us! It was my first time trying this kind of pasta, and it was delicious! And then, I had some ice cream for dessert.
Sometimes, a cat comes by my house! It seems like it’s a neighborhood cat. I think this cat has an owner.
Because there was a collar around the cat's neck before, and it had a name written on it. The cat’s name is ‘Bonnie. ’ If I leave the window open, Bonnie comes inside.
Sometimes, she relaxes, explores the house, and then leaves. I think Bonnie goes to all the houses around here. I found out that my neighbors also know this cat.
I love cats, so I’m always happy when Bonnie comes by! That day, I went to IKEA to buy some furniture. I didn’t have a chair or chests of drawers in my room.
So, I browsed around IKEA and bought some furniture. First, I assembled the chests of drawers at home. It took about three and a half hours to finish both the chest of drawers and the chair.
So in my room right now, I have a desk, a chair, and a chest of drawers. There’s still a bit of organizing left, but I think I bought the right pieces! I also bought a TV.
I set it up in the living room like this. Sometimes, my boyfriend and I play games together in the evening. My school started in September.
Classes are in the afternoon, so I work in the mornings. I actually prefer afternoon classes! After lunch, I packed my bag for school.
I usually use my iPad at school. I think the iPad is more convenient than a notebook. I use my iPad, but I also packed a pen and pencil case.
It takes about 20 minutes by bus from home to school. At first, I was a little scared and nervous about taking the bus alone, but I’ve gotten used to it after taking it several times! I was quite anxious and worried about taking classes in a different country.
But after a while, it became fun! I think it’s more fun now that I’ve become friends with my classmates and gotten closer to my professors! After class, I chat with my friends for a bit.
Then I go to take the bus to go home. Buses in France are quite different from those in Korea. Sometimes, there are really long buses in France.
It’s interesting how the seats are arranged both in the front and the back. And it’s really cool that I can press a button to open the door myself when I get off. For dinner, I made tteokbokki.
I brought the rice cakes and sauce from Korea. You can find them in France, but they’re so expensive, so I brought a lot of ingredients from Korea. To make tteokbokki, I first boiled the rice cakes.
Once the rice cakes are boiling, I add the sauce and let it cook some more. What ingredients do you put in your tteokbokki? I like to add eggs and fish cakes.
For vegetables, I include onions and green onions. After adding the tteokbokki sauce and boiling it, I add the vegetables and other ingredients, then let them cook. Tteokbokki and kimbap are delicious together, so I also made tuna triangle kimbap.
I first put the rice in, then added tuna and mayonnaise in the middle, and finally pressed it down with more rice. And then I just wrap the rice with the seaweed. I could make the triangular kimbap look prettier, but I’m not sure how to do it, so I just made it this way.
I had tteokbokki and tuna triangular kimbap like this! Over the weekend, I had a housewarming party. I ate pizza with my friends.
We also drank champagne that my friends brought! The next day, I woke up early and had breakfast. On Wednesdays, I have classes starting early in the morning and a lot of classes, so I get tired, but I have to go to school.
It was still September, but the weather had been really cold! So I caught a cold and took some medicine. I live in the north of France, and I heard it usually rains a lot here.
It’s not humid here, so when it rains, the temperature drops significantly. But when it’s clear, the sunlight is super intense and really hot. Still, I prefer sunny days!
I definitely feel like my language skills are improving quickly because I’m attending a language school. Since I go to school every day and hear a lot of French in my daily life, I think my language skills are improving quickly and it’s becoming more fun. Sometimes there’s a button at traffic lights that you have to press to change the signal.
I didn’t know this at first. So at first, I waited and waited, but the signal didn’t change, and after about 5 minutes, I just crossed the street. Later, I asked someone, and they told me that I needed to press this button.
I thought it was really interesting that there are traffic lights like this! When I got home, I started my school homework. My boyfriend helps me a lot with my homework.
What does this mean? What can I buy at the bakery? My boyfriend attended a language school in Korea, and the Korean language school had a lot of homework.
And the pace was fast, so there were many words and grammar rules to memorize. But in France, the pace at the language school is slower and there’s really little homework. Homework is about one or two assignments a week?
And it’s just about one sheet of paper. I feel like studying in France is more relaxed compared to Korea. Actually, French is really difficult, and there are times when I feel frustrated and want to give up.
I’m sure you all feel the same way when studying Korean, right? When that happens, I usually watch an interesting French drama or cartoon, or try to have conversations in French with people around me. That makes me want to study harder so I can have more conversations!
If you have any tips on what to do when you don’t want to study or feel like giving up, please share in the comments! Thank you for watching my French life vlog today, and I’ll see you in the next video! Thank you~ Goodbye!
