some of the subjects that I realized in 1990 three after my first trip to Japan as I knew nothing about protestantism and for me to understand uh anything on doish University or Christianity at all inu's time I certainly had to know protestantism protestantism and how it worked because initially um Christianity was the main religion first introduced to Japan through the Roman Catholic faith in with the um Spanish and the um Portuguese and the Dutch not so much Dutch but anyway that all came through there and then the protestantism was sort of Fairly in its impy
then wasn't as big so but in the time of the Magi uh Restoration in the end of the Tokugawa shogan it in 1869 uh uh that period of time the the biggest emphasis of Christianity in Japan at that time was the Protestant form of Christianity from All Nations so we had the Methodist we had the P the some Pentecost Pentecostals not so much we had the moments we had the uh Presbyterians we had the congregationalist whichi just happened to be a congregationalist or Kumi ordained minister from doshisha so and then we had all the other
little uh Russian Orthodox uh Christianity and other little breakdowns here and there of um different different versions of American protestantism and oh the the the John Klein or anyway it it was it was difficult to understand protestantism so I had to go and learn it the hard way because I was a Catholic I had to sort of look at the guys that started all this off which was was looking at um Henry VII back in the 1850s and and uh what he did with the Catholic church and his you know upsetting his first wife Katherine
of Aragon and then marrying wanting to marry Anin and he had to get dispensation from the pope but then he just dispensed the PO all together and formed his own church and had turned against the Roman Catholics that dominated the British uh Empire there or the British Charles or England Scotland and Wales and all that uh he just about turned on them and eradicated them because they're actually a good Revenue source of revenue for his new power you know he needed money and power so he rans sack took it all off the Catholic Bishops and
Cardinals and the abies and shut them all down imprison them all and and did all naughty things and so then we had that church of England divide away and then all the other ones too and I thought oh I was getting lost in all these so I had to kind of really work out in my head how to work who was who and how they thought a little bit and how they taught Christianity cuz each one had their own little flavor like one would would use a cross some wouldn't use any cross at all not
even a shadow uh some would sometimes have a incense sometimes not sometimes they'd have a Bible or this particular version of the Bible I couldn't work out one way or another so I had to get a rough rundown on the entire Protestant faith and history of it over a period of time was interesting read yeah great so you really have to prepare yourself back but at the same time I also had to understand Japanese Buddhism because it sort of was quite different to that that came from the south in Thailand and and uh Vietnam uh
and those lower countries yeah I just had a sudden shock but anyway but the Buddhism in the north was very heavily influenced to by the cast c a system and they also were responsible the Buddhist temples were responsible for the teaching of all people from the casts that were below samurai the samurai had their own schools and their own teachers and learned their own uh education and ways of doing things and and the analysts the confusion Classics and they had their principles and according to their class and cast and after that then came the Buddhist
teaching the sort of the ABCs and accounting system very very basic education in the temples to the children if they were lucky they got a little bit of education but usually they were put out in the rice fields very quickly or whatever happened to be the the trade of that Village but it was usually a rice Patty field so I cover a lot of these things in the book because these were very important as we know to the story of a suie that that Mrs darta said that she he wanted to go into the with
the peasants and teach them trades and better their skills well in actual fact too yoy did do that but he did it in a poor fishing Village not necessarily a slum but it was just a poor very very very poor fishing Village that for us would be a slam but for them it was just an average Little Village you see so and yeah you could just take him right into that because that's very well documented and it's very well documented in the book because he he took some cousins with him one of them which was
Hayashi and which could very well be the father of alashi uh chiro Hayashi and also another cousin of him called called uh Roku tokut Tomi which looks very much like our traditional photo of assu which is his maternal cousin and his pictures in the my book as well and who he was and how they worked together all their lives uh I haven't written everything that I know about this character yet in the samuraii master and nor have I told you everything so there's a lot in between too yo in this book and uh Hayashi that's
still to come that blends them both together very well and new information too it's just that as you can appreciate everything takes time and resources and to work on this and I guarantee I didn't make any money never will certainly it certainly cost me a lot of dollars and anybody knows that who's done a real serious work on on any historical project you don't make a buck at all and but I don't care you know at least I got the story to you and I get a lot of joy out of that really so wouldn't
say no though to you know ticket to Japan to say hello to to here you call you're getting C but I don't know put my wish out there it might happen and I might get to join you who knows anyway thank you for taking this time to uh consider ringing my book I certainly uh appreciate having this moment to talk with you in person at least and I hav had a box normally and but I've tried to give you what I believe is a well researched book however there's one point I must cover separately here
and that is the known isui Monument that exists in Tokyo the fake isui monument that exists at the say hoi temple in Kil yeah that's a shocker but I'm afraid I can't I can't come up with any other conclusion at this point because there isn't any and I certainly welcome some if You' got something substantial please bring it to our attention and uh we love to look at it because it's got to be independently be able to be verified and be a document that would have to exist pre uh 1940 at least and that I
could actually go there and source that if I wanted to and a few other little criteria that needs to be met so um I welcome any criticism to my claim that the Su monument in in Tokyo at the seoi temple is a fake and was put there deliberately and mischievously to mislead a lot of people and I'll leave you with that and I'll tell you why in a minute bye-bye thanks for listening again bye
