hello this is Julie buccola and today I am continuing my series of the basics and that's the Bohan basics in the previous one I was explaining how we hold the bow how I teach to hold the bow and now we're going to continue further before we go we refresh our memory and the major refreshment is that you always have your thumb bent to be touching or stuck upon against your middle finger okay that's very important so basically this is my hand that's how I'm resting right now my middle finger on my thumb and the rest
of the hand is extremely extremely relaxed alright so now if you'll see I have my bow line here on the music stand and yours would be also lying there so what I want you to do next is with this relaxed hand just regular hand I will go I'm going to approach the bow and take it and then arrange my fingers on it and that's what you want to be practicing as well and this is how I would suggest you do it do not try to go there and pick up the bow as the bow you
need to take it in your fist just like this just like you would want to take anything nicely and without too much thinking your fist has to be loose everything that you will do with connected with a violin has to be with rather loose hands definitely flexible definitely not to tense or not tense actually at all but functionally okay so here I am I'm approaching my bow I'm taking it here in the fist that's it but my fist is rather loose so I'm not holding on this tight like that and I bring it up in
in it in the upright position some of that you should see in my first videos the bow hand bits and pieces right there and some of it will be here so from the fist what you want to do you want to with the help of your left hand turn the bow now you see where the hair is right it will be the moving looking to your right the hair of the bow so turn the bow away meanwhile your right hand will obey and slightly open you're holding the bow now with your left hand okay here
you are you'll loose fist again I'm turning the bow away I'm letting it be turned away I bent my thumb and I'm putting my thumb right here between the thumb grip and the beginning of the Frog okay the Nook here alright so here we are I'm putting it as here then I would make sure that my second finger is truly against the thumb in my case right now it was slightly below after my fist so I move everything up slightly so that my second finger is kind of almost above your thumb a bit okay so
here you are you can see that the pinky is still not on the bow just like we had that thing on the other position I'm still holding in my left hand now I'm bringing my pinky on top I am making a big a little bit of space between the first and second finger and their pinky when it went on top it also goes on top with a bit of a space okay just like this not here but right there and this one is here again we got to the position okay so to make it in
a one fluid movement I approach the ball I take it I help myself here move adjust pinky goes on top with the spaces the bow hand alright next thing is to use this bow hand with the bow in a series of little exercises and one of them would be exercise when I put myself right here the thumb of the left hand will go into the palm the fingers of the left hand can be right on your wrist and that what you do you are moving yourself bending your wrist so this hand is bending the wrist
okay you see what with the rest of my fingers nothing I don't do anything with them the bow somehow is just basically stuck in there because I know the feel of balancing it upright again this exercises all of them have to be done for you over the bed over something soft yet the boss of you know Falls somehow for you it really shouldn't but if in case it does it's okay nothing will happen to you so again this is a very important thing you'll go from the neutral position here with the help of your left
hand your actual left hand is bending and your right there and then back to your position bend three fingers to lose their spaces that's okay and then back okay so it's a nice exercise then you can do it without this yeah by yourself you bend your hand and you can see that the bow is staying still basically upright it doesn't move so try to do this it's kind of fun and you will feel much freer with this hand with the bow all right I hope this has been helpful and I wish you to practice well
and relaxed and like it and subscribe and I'll see you later
