what if everyone on earth left but only one robot survived Wally Disney Pixar's new animated film is about just that joining us now is three-time Oscar nominee Sigourney Weaver you know her from such classic films as alien working girl oh you were so mean of that gorillas in the mist and Dave's Sigourney Weaver good morning morning that's all right we should say that you obviously do not play the voice of wall-e because wall-e is male yes but it is very ironic the voice you do play 10 seconds to self-destruct I play the pivotal part of
the ship's computer I have many aspects I am an advertising voice for the big corporation that is behind kind of the destruction of her yes birth being a big garbage pile and I also end up becoming a kind of companion for Jeff Garlin's garland's captain talking about earth and what earth used to be like but your voice and your role as the computer I thought it was ironic because back in alien you're fighting the big bad mother ship mother the computer I know I think that's why they thought of me actually not because of my
obnoxious voice but because I'm not obnoxious is very authoritative but what did they say to you when they approached you about being the voice of the computer of this spaceship where humans have to live now yes well you know I've always been such a big fan of Pixar and I love the way they have very enchanting personal stories within a bigger context and so really they just sent me the script and I guess it was Andrew Stanton the writer director is sort of kind of whim and dreamed to have me do the voice just an
homage to alien or something and I just fell in love with the story and the characters are so charming and and yet the the story of the human race in this movie I think is it's very it's very timely because they have to make a decision about whether to go back and take care of the planet and it's I think it's it's a shows how resilient we are how how much we do want to take care of our planet which i think is a a great message for us all to hear but there's also a
message of love there's a little love story going on there's a romance between wall-e who's this adorable kind of dirty little sweet robot and Eve who's a sleek modern gorgeous femme fatale robot who as a action a woman action hero myself in the old days she if she gets irritated she just destroys things and I I found her very admirable how hard was this for you to do as a role is it like the easiest thing because you know you don't have to go into hair and makeup my costume just kind of go to the
sound booth or did you find as an actor was more challenging because you had to do something with you know just in a sound booth not living the moment well you know it was over too quickly I did explain to Andrew that I hoped that I would have an arc in a way that's what actors talked about when you want to develop a character because I start out as the voice of the corporation but I end really as a more intimate voice in the in the show so even within the spindly little company you know
time I had I I found it very satisfying it sounds like to me even for a computer voice you got your arms thank you don't as much as a computer voice could have I tried it's right right well we love your work whatever it is it's comedy you're serious we're scary Sigourney Weaver thank you so much great pleasure you're watching The Early Show on CBS you
