there are a few things more frustrating than a stain that just won't come out but for one family a mysterious spot on the floor went from a minor nuisance to a frightening mystery we take you back to 1971 the village of belmez in andalusia spain local resident maria gomez kamara discovers a strange discoloration on her concrete kitchen floor oddly after a few days it changes and forms what appears to be a face she tries to scrub it away to no avail so her husband then tears up the floor and re-cements it but a week later
the face reappears in the floor followed by several more a number of times they've taken up the floor they've tried to get rid of them but the faces just keep coming back word quickly spreads about the phenomenon in belmezz there's been a number of investigations and attempts at analysis of the site and none of them have come up with any evidence of paint or tampering that would lead to a concrete explanation for the existence of the faces even stranger while researchers were examining the site a number of long-expired human remains were found buried underneath the
house unbeknownst to the family i was able to verify that there was a late 1800s cemetery in that location it likely was a catholic cemetery that was long forgotten and when they needed room to build homes they just go went ahead and built a home over it without realizing that the headstones had been removed a lot of the people that visited the belman's faces thought that the bodies or the spirits or the souls beneath the home were showing themselves through these faces in the floor the family has always insisted this was not a hoax they
weren't hand drawing the faces on their own floor and though the mother maria died in 2004 the image continues to draw visitors to the house to this day but what are they really looking at our experts face off first perhaps this could all have been another example of peridolia the tendency of humans to see familiar shapes within randomly occurring patterns but andrew mccarthy isn't so sure some say that these images could be an accident maybe they simply spilled something on the floor which stained it and it resembled a face then why does the face keep
reappearing time and time again that seems to rule out a coincidence catholic miracle researcher michael o'neill says that while this resembles some confirmed miracles it can't be classified as such there's a case in the 1700s in austria called our lady of absam began to manifest the face of the virgin mary the glass was wiped clean with acid and the image came back according to the investigator and as a result they declared it to be miraculous we don't have the same situation now we don't see in real time the image returning so cannot be established as
miraculous a chemical engineering firm in spain that analyzed the belmez faces in 2014 told us their tests using infrared scanning and electron microscopes did not find any traces of inorganic materials like paint where the images appeared but mick west thinks it's very possible the faces weren't painted on but instead created with another technique it seems almost like they're removing areas rather than adding to the areas it's very dark around the outside of the face and then it's white in the middle so it could just simply be that they've added something like bleach but then would
eventually evaporate and you wouldn't really see any residue of that mick makes an interesting case for bleach but the most recent testing did not detect bleach or paint so our verdict these strange faces remain an unexplained phenomenon until we get more concrete proof march 2nd 2021 loch innell ireland in the sky thousands of starlings gather gathering what's known as a murmuration because of the sound the birds make sports photographer james crombie has been trying to get a good shot of them for 60 days it became an obsession and in my head i said i knew
that something was going to happen so we kept going and they were ridiculously active that night it was a sight to behold james's patience pays off when he captures this that's the bird that looked like a bird hold on a bird let's rewind and go through this video frame by frame sure enough here the starlings form the shape of a giant bird how's this for uncanny put the image side by side with a shot of a real starling overlap the two and you explain it whoa it really does look like a massive bird it almost
seems as if these birds are one giant unified organism one theory is that the birds possess some sort of extra sensory perception perhaps they share this collective consciousness and they're able to communicate with each other telepathically or on a level that we don't fully understand we do know from recent studies that birds perceive and process images twice as fast as humans giving them extraordinarily quick reflexes and that's an obvious explanation for how they can do things like catch insects in their mouth so extra sensory perception you betcha it's just a sense that we already have
but in a way that we cannot see so is this formation intentional or could we just be seeing patterns in something that's actually random we've discussed this phenomenon in previous episodes it's called paradolia to find answers we turn the footage over to our experts to start what's the science behind starlings flocking together even when they're not forming intimidating shapes first of all they're safer from predators when they're in a large flaw like schools of fish a flock of birds detects prey earlier and its swirling shape confuses hunters which have a hard time picking out a
single target secondly they can stay warmer at night time and third they might be able to communicate information about the best foraging areas but forming a swirling mass is one thing deliberately creating shapes like a giant bird requires an entirely different level of intelligence are birds smart enough to cooperate in this way and to send humans and predators a message some birds can communicate with people are you hungry apple yeah they have learned words and they have understood the context of these words you're marcia cookin it's kind of cool and birds are actually among some
of the smartest species on the planet like chimpanzees dolphins and elephants in problem-solving tests parrots have proven at least as intelligent as five-year-old humans so birds can reason and communicate in ways we once thought impossible but shutler doesn't buy the esp theory it seems like it's a collective consciousness but it's not each bird is responding to about six to seven of its closest neighbors so if one bird makes a decision it affects the other birds around them which then goes throughout the entire flock but look again this shape of a bird can't be a coincidence
right that is unless you consider that james went out for 60 days and he and his companion shot tens of thousands of frames of this one murmuration and just five or so look like a giant bird and some people may think that that was done intentionally but i believe it's purely coincidental okay it's possible the giant bird shape is just a case of peridolia but starlings are smart enough to communicate with us so it's also possible they created this shape on purpose we've only started to grasp avian intelligence so we're going to call the giant
bird shape and unexplained phenomenon until we learn more pueblo colorado physician dr rocky coleslaw and his family are on their way to dinner when they hit a bad rainstorm as they seek shelter they notice another car is being submerged by the water rapidly rising on a low-lying road watch what happens next as i look this car took off and started floating away way faster than i expected by chance a news crew is passing by they roll cameras dr coleslaw and others jump into action and try to free 35 year old charlene herrera from the 10
foot deep torrent i just saw a piece of wood floating and so i grabbed it and i just started swimming out the car is nearly submerged the situation looks hopeless and i was really hammering away with this piece of wood and making absolutely no progress then it happens watch another rescuer reaches into the water and somehow he's able to grab charlene's arm next thing i know this person is popping out of there like a champagne corn charlene is pulled to safety it's a feel-good rescue story but here's the amazing thing when the car is later
recovered all of the doors and windows are closed and intact at this point i'm still mystified by the whole thing she'd obviously been through a near-death experience but she was alive you know it was just incredible we tried to contact the woman in the car but we were never able to reach her so much remains unanswered how were the rescuers able to get a hold of her how did she escape when the windows and the doors were shut could this be a case of divine intervention or something else let's check in with our experts we
always ask is the video real alexis brooks a former local tv reporter says the footage aired on local news and has never been questioned the crew that filmed this is a professional film crew they're in the business of news not fantasy so next question could a window have been rolled down then rolled back up physicist dr hakeem olusegi says it's unlikely most cars today the windows aren't manual they're powered windows and we know that water and electricity don't mix it's going to short out the electrical system eventually so a person doesn't have very much time
to lower those windows before it's impossible to lower them something else to consider could a door have been opened then later shut dr olashayi concludes that would have required a huge feat of strength physics works against allowing them to escape the car feels a force pushing in on it on all sides so a person inside the car when they try to open that door they're working against that incredible force and there is no person strong enough to open such a car door only says if you wait for the pressure to equalize the car will be
so full of water that there's no air left to breathe so we have to consider was this a miracle we asked michael o'neil a trained engineer who researches claims of miracles in the catholic church all we know is there is not a clear explanation naturally speaking of how that person was saved from the vehicle was one of the rescuers an angel or some other divine presence that opened that door and got the person out in an inexplicable way so you look at all of the elements that are in play the camera crew stopping just in
time to capture that footage as well as a physician being on site and you have to ask yourself is there something else at work here it was meant it seems for other people to witness that miracles occur and maybe happen every day there's a gap of time between the driver being rescued and the car being pulled out so there's a small chance an open window or door could have closed somehow during that time but i'm going with our physicist that's highly unlikely because of the water pressure so until we get more info our verdict is
possible miracle may 2021 canadian resident rob connects with chris from utah on a video chat the two met on a facebook group that explores the idea of possible extrasensory powers chris claims to have one particularly shocking ability there you go with a piece of foil on one finger chris holds up a light bulb and presses the end and suddenly is able to make it light up without any wires turn it all around everywhere so people can see there's nothing anywhere perfect the two got together to talk to us i was skeptical i got him to
take his camera and show it all around because i was wondering if there was some kind of a static generator or a tesla coil but there wasn't chris says this extraordinary ability was taught to him by a man in south america who honed this power through years of meditation we're like a capacitor or a battery that's what my teacher taught me all i'm doing is i'm gathering an abundance of negative ions from the atmosphere and charging my body with it so i create a voltage differential and so what you're seeing most of it is static
discharge now does that hurt chris oh it drains it's physical exercises like moving his muscles in a certain way breathing a certain way and it creates the charge it pulls negative ions out of the air so the negative ions in his body are going through the bulb lighting it up and then they pass on their way to ground and discharge to the ground you know it's really just about physics now the average human produces about 100 watts of electricity at rest but we generally lack the ability to focus that energy into a consistent current so
how is chris able to do this let's ask the experts [Music] so of course our first question is this just a clever trick mick west thinks the answer is yes he's actually got a little bit of foil on the end of one finger if you look at a regular light bulb you see it's got one contact in the middle and then the other contact where the screws are and electricity normally flows across those third if you stick a battery and a small ball inside the light bulb you can actually create a trick light bulb that
will light up when touching a bit of aluminum foil to the two contacts and i think that's all that's going on here but maybe that's not how the trick's done wow dr hakimo luchehi says it may be possible he's not collecting ions from the air but that he's conducting the electricity coming from somewhere else our bodies are 50 water and the water in our bodies is a pretty good conductor of electricity the body can hold a voltage if he's directly connected to a source of power and he can transfer that voltage to the bulb causing
it to illuminate it's not out of the question then that chris is hoaxing us by hooking himself up to a low voltage current contact yeah but even a small sustained amount could have damaging effects a current going through your body particularly if it goes through the heart it'll upset the heart's rhythms so the first question may be how are they surviving this when we talked to chris and rob they insisted no wires or trick bulbs were involved and even demonstrated this power in a new way [Music] let me hold your hand okay and i'm going
to take the bulb and i'm going to touch to the ground and the table there it is there we go if you look around the table there's nothing attached to the table there's nothing attached to chris it's not a trick light bulb i can't make it go on by touching it no way no how but if i grab his hand then i can do it our experts were pretty convinced this was a hoax but even though we weren't with chris and rob in person their demonstration was pretty convincing since we can't explain how he's doing
it we're gonna call this an unexplained trick
