We've got the Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid. >> The one to get. >> Nice one.
>> Oo, nice power. >> Surprise. >> Feels really good.
>> The way that the Hyundai group goes about their hybrids is very different from Toyota, for example. We'll explain that in a moment. Right now, we'll tell you what is powering this.
>> A 1. 6 L turbocharged 4 cylinder with a hybrid system. It's matched to a six-speed automatic transmission and gets a combined 231 horsepower and 271 pound- feet of torque.
In Canada, standard all-wheel drive. In the US, front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options are available. >> All right, so we're driving the hybrid.
Here are the key standard features of the Santa Fe hybrid. >> The base trim comes with a 12. 3 in touchscreen, wireless, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, a 4.
2 2 in digital driver display, seven passenger seating, cloth upholstery, manual and heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, hands-free smart power liftgate, smart sense safety features, and overthe-air updates. In the US, not all these features are standard. So when we launched back there, Andrea, it has a very satisfying feel and drives like a regular car, meaning a gasoline car and not a hybrid because it has a six-speed conventional torque converter automatic transmission and a turbocharged 4 cylinder plus the electrification.
It all comes together as we mentioned right off the top. This, in my opinion, is the one to get. >> Well, I'm just really surprised by the fact how smooth that acceleration is.
It's not jerky at all. Power is good. Uh the whole delivery of this hybrid model and then tie in the fuel economy and it's a real winner.
>> So if you get the regular gas model, you get a turbo 4. This is a smaller turbo 4 with the electrification and it just delivers a very satisfying yet normal driving experience. Like some people will get into a say a Toyota or a Lexus hybrid and they go this kind of feels weird with the ECVT.
None of that with this. >> No, it's quite refined. It's smooth.
It's comfortable. Visibility is great because of its boxy design. The only thing I find on the highway is the suspension is a little bit firmer when you hit those bumps.
And also, I can hear some wind noise coming in, but it's not enough to really bother me that I would say, I'm not sure this is for me. >> So, make sure you stick around. Halfway through we have questions, coughing cars.
After that we have our hot topic. Somebody's asking the question, why would you get this with three rows of seats and not get that new posh looking palisade? They really are quite different looking with different markets.
This is more like a rugged Land Rover kind of vibe. That one's more Range Rover kind of vibe. Anyway, we're going to jump into that more uh later in the video >> and bigger.
Not everybody wants such a large vehicle. maneuverability is excellent. This thing you can turn on a dime.
Turning radius is very good. The steering is not too light, which actually I prefer when you get into something like a Honda Pilot or a Honda Passport. Oh, the steering is incredibly light.
So, I like the feel of this more. >> So, I remember the very first time I saw this. I said to Andrea, "That thing is going to sell incredibly well.
" Uh people love boxy SUVs. Even though they're just taking their kids to soccer practice or going to the mall, they still want their SUV to project that it's capable. And this does look like a Land Rover, especially from the back, those old LR3s and LR4s.
Uh but from the back, it also has a bit of a clumsy design. They didn't pull it off. It's not a 10 out of 10 from the back.
>> Overall, it's a goodlook vehicle, but I'm with you with the rear. There's something about it. I don't know if it's because it's flat.
Is it the tail lights that look like dog bones? I get it. It's supposed to be an H.
But it doesn't excite me. The rear. And I think with a refresh, um I I believe that Hyundai will probably take care of that.
But what >> I just want to say one thing, Andrea. I like a rear that excites me. But >> who doesn't?
>> But the thing is, I think it's color specific, right? If you see this in a different color, maybe it pulls it off better. >> But yeah, the thing about Hyundai was you going to say they pivot.
Yeah, they pivot. I mean like quickly. They listen to what consumers are saying and they make changes quickly.
I got to hand it to the company for sure. And what a massive departure from the outgoing model. I mean, it's kind of shocking how different this looks.
Uh but the boxy design is a popular choice amongst consumers today. >> So, in a moment, we're coming up to the bumpiest part of the road. Stick around for that.
Right now, what do we have to put it in? Got to put it in S for subscribing. If you can hit that notification bell, you'll be notified when all of our reviews drop and then you can watch them.
>> And we do this the couple car review twice a week. The first one drops on Wednesday. We >> put another one out on Saturday.
>> Too many lil's for my liking. Andrea, about 60% of the people that watch our videos, they're lil's and they're not subscribed. So, convert from Lou to subscriber.
Andrea, foot to the floor. Let's go for it. >> Oh, yeah.
>> See, that's the turbo. >> Good delivery. Good power delivery.
Yeah. >> Excellent. >> We're scooting along at well past legal speeds here.
>> Okay, let's get past the bus and then go over to the bumpy bit here. >> Bumpy side. >> All right, here it is.
The bumpiest part of this road. >> Yeah, you definitely feel the bumps. >> It's not bad, though.
We are running on winter tires, which are a little bit softer, >> but uh that's it's tolerable. Okay, enough of that. >> Off to the >> smooth bit.
>> Smooth bit. So, this gets 7 in of ground clearance and comes standard with LED headlamps, LED tail lamps. You get 18-in wheels, available 20-in in a tire repair kit.
Unfortunately, no temporary spare tire. Now, what it does offer is available power folding exterior mirrors. So, if you're parking on the street, how convenient is that?
So, I'm over here now, Andrea. I'm with you 100%. I love a boxy vehicle.
You can see the edges. It makes it easy to maneuver. But the inside, Andrea, we've said it again and again and again.
The Hyundai Group is doing a fantastic job of giving you all of the latest technology within dash stuff, but still giving you all of the buttons and switches that people love in a floating center console. >> Well, that's what I like about it. It's clean.
It's modern. The screens are sleek. You've got a standard 12.
3 in touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and available 12. 3 in digital driver display. But this center console is so welld designed, not only for storage, but also the available dual wireless charger.
>> Some trims you only get one, but this is the top dog, so you get two. >> And it's just in such a convenient location. I'm such a fan.
And then you've got the cup holders and then that floating center console with more storage. And the door pockets are a good size. >> You can fill this up with junk.
There's more junk space too, Andrea. On that side over there, you get two glove boxes, an upper one and a lower one. But wait, there's more for the Skinsu knife set.
You also get a tray so you can park your phone or a tablet over there as well. Uh, so yeah, it's very well done. >> I like the dual panel sunroof.
got ambient lighting in our model and um overall the seats are super comfortable. Standard cloth available leatherrett available leather trimmed and then we've got on this top trim it's Napa leather trimmed. >> Yeah, but it's just trimmed.
That's the bolsters. The center I think is still the fake stuff which is very good. I've said it also that I think Hyundai's using the best faux leather but the edges, the bolsters are in the Napa leather.
But you know what th this is? When we have been to Korea and we've spoken to executives, we say, "You guys are relentless with this stuff. " And you know what?
If something's not working, next generation, they'll do something totally different. >> And look at the trim piece on the dash. It has this kind of pinstripe look and it's matte finish.
Uh, and I think it's just those extra details with the combination of materials that are used um that really makes this stand out. And then you've got a column shifter. I've never been a huge fan, but you certainly get used to it.
It keeps the center console super clean. >> Yeah, there's only shiny hard plastic around this um HVAC control screen. Other than that, on the doors, you see it's sort of a matte finish.
It's very well done. >> This Santa Fe seat six or seven people wondering which gets bench seat, which has >> I want to know, Andrea, which one gets benches and which gets captains. Okay.
In Canada, >> all trims get a bench seat except for this top trim, you get captain's chairs. >> So top and nanny, you get captain's chairs. Okay.
>> In the US, a few more options. The two base models get a bench seat. The Limited model has the option of both.
Captain's chairs or a bench seat. And then the top trim, well, you know what? You get captain's chairs.
>> Well, here are the Santa Fe available features. They include an eight-way power driver and passenger seat. Drver seat memory, front relaxation seats, ventilated front seats, 12 speakeraker Bose sound system, surround and rear view monitors, navigation, head-up display, dual panel sunroof, and heated rear seats.
This is a three row, as we mentioned. Here's me getting in the second row. Of course, because it's three rows, the seats have to slide for and aft and also recline.
You get pretty good leg room and headroom. How does it stack up? >> The Santa Fe Hybrid offers 41.
4 4 in of front row legroom and 42. 3 in of second row legroom. >> Stick around for our hot topic.
We're going to talk about the third row and why you would want this vehicle. Here's me climbing in. It isn't the biggest.
It's for extra people in a pinch. How does it stack up? >> Third row legroom is 30 in.
>> Lifting up the power lift gate on this top trim. You can see when all three rows of seats are up there, you don't get a lot of space. What's the rest of the space?
>> Cargo space behind the third row is 14. 6 cubic feet. behind the second row 40.
5 cubic feet and overall cargo space is 80 cubic feet. >> So after questions this or Palisade? Right now we drink coffee.
>> Time now for questions, coffee, and cars. >> Your questions from Instagram. >> How's the ride quality of the Santa Fe hybrid versus the Palisad hybrid?
Also, I'm kind of surprised the top calligraphy trim doesn't offer second row ventilated seats. Do you think Hyundai will make that an available option in the near future? So, I'll start first with the ventilated second row seats.
It's all about a grade walk. Now, hey, listen. You never know with Hyundai because they're always constantly adding these great features, but I just can't see the Santa Fe getting that at this point because of the price point.
>> Yeah, it could also be that that's on a new platform and the wiring harness is all set for that. Also, you got to remember these seats flip and fold forward, and you've got to have uh a heating element and a fan built into the bottom of the seat. So, technically, it it might be tricky to do in this product versus the Palisade.
We just don't know that. Interestingly, Andrea, when we have this car this week, we also had a Palisade, but it wasn't the hybrid. It was the XRT, the one with the sort of u smaller wheels and all-terrain tires.
and we were going back and forth shooting both vehicles and I said to Andrew, I think this Palisade is really comfortable with those tires >> for sure. I I do find there is a difference between the two. One thing about the Santa Fe, and I mentioned it off the top, I do feel that the suspension is a little bit firmer, especially compared to even the outgoing model Santa Fe.
And um so so that's something to consider. So, what you need to do is try a Palisade with the different size wheels to find out which one is the right one for you. So, if you get the biggest wheels, you're not going to get the smoothest ride.
>> Given it uses the same powertrain, does it feel much slower than the Tucson Hybrid? >> Maybe the Tucson would be faster because it's just a little bit smaller, but the seat of my pants, my backside accelerating and driving it, I can't tell the difference. >> Same.
It's really quite fantastic. This has been tuned so well. I'm not feeling a lack of power.
What I do find between the Tucson and the Santa Fe, Tucson is still quieter. That hybrid, they've done such a wonderful job keeping it well insulated. But once again, Hyundai has come to the table with the Santa Fe.
It's very good. >> If you want to get a question in for any video in the future, you need to follow along on Instagram. It's motormouth_andra.
You also see what's going on behind the scenes. For me, it's Motormouth Auto and the links are below the like button in the description. >> Are the climate controls touch sensitive or can they be used with gloves on?
>> Okay, first things first. Um, we've got to get started. >> Start it up.
Yeah. So, Andrea brought her mittens. >> Mhm.
So, I brought my gloves. I brought my special gloves that I use for my phone. >> Okay.
>> So, what I did is I tried this and then I and then Okay. Let them turn the fan down. >> Turn the fan so >> you can hear the beep.
>> Here we go. >> Do it again. >> Yes.
>> So you can activate it with the glove. Now do it with a finger that doesn't have it. >> Okay.
>> That's a nogo. >> That's a no-go. It doesn't work.
>> So you need to have gloves with the little rubbery kind of tips that you use for your smartphone and then you're in business. >> You need the special gloves which are available in so many places. >> The dealer should include them with every purchase.
And now it's time for our hot topic. What's this one, Andrea? >> I looked at it, but I don't know why they do the third row, which is not practical at all.
If you need a third row, they have the Palisade. For many people, the third row seat would likely be down 99% of the time. Why not provide a choice for two or three row for this vehicle?
>> Well, you kind of keyed on it there when you said 99% of the time the seats will be down. But it's that 1% of the time, Andrea, when grandma comes to visit at Christmas or you have an extra kid to take to an event, you need that third row in a pinch. Yes, I understand you're going to use all the cargo space when the seats are down, but when you need that extra seat belts, you have to have a three row SUV.
>> Absolutely. I lived this. There were so many times that there were school events and I just needed to take one or two more children.
And even if I kept those seats down 99% of the time, I could do it. I could help out other parents. >> Okay, I'm just going to do the math for you.
Before Santa Fe was available with three rows of seats. Then they got rid of it and they went to a sort of a quasi luxury two row. Didn't sell.
They've brought it back with three rows. Now it's selling. >> Throw in a boxy design and hey, you got a winner.
>> You're on your way to Santa Fe. All right. Now, the vital stats of this product.
>> Let's start with pricing. We'll do Canada first and then move on to the US. The Canadian pricing includes freight, PDI, and fees.
The base model starts at just over $465,000 and the top ultimate calligraphy is just under $60,000. In the US, we're using MSRP. The first front-wheel drive model starts at just over $36,000.
And the top calligraphy frontwheel drive is just under $485,000. Add all-wheel drive for $1,800. >> Here's the all-wheel drive fuel economy.
6. 8 L per 100 kilometer city, 6. 9 on the highway.
An impressive 35 mp gallon city, 34 on the highway. Towing capacity is just 2,000 lb with trailer brakes. And Hyundai offers a warranty of 5 years, 100,000 kilm, or 60,000 mi.
Lightning round. Two things we like, two things we'd like to see improved. I really like the power delivery of this vehicle.
>> It's very comfortable. >> What I'd like to see is a bench seat offered on the top trim. Some need it.
>> They could massage the rear end a little bit. A little bit to change the design just a little bit. So, there it is.
It's the Santa Fe. What do you guys think of that? >> Thanks for watching.
