something about this movie reminds me of the show dollhouse remember that show spend a [Music] minute so companions written and directed by Drew Hancock Stars Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid they play a couple that hang out with a group of friends in this huge house in the middle of nowhere and then she kills somebody and this is the point it's kind of like Terminator 2 not to say the movie is like Terminator 2 how when Terminator 2 came out everyone knew Arnold was the good guy but if you watch Terminator 2 the setup is executed
in a way where it's almost like you're not supposed to know until he goes get down and he saves John Conor's life same thing here because Sophie Thatcher plays that's right a companion robot it's kind of that same setup Vibe here the way people are interacting with her the way Jack Quaid interacts with her you know something's off but you don't know what it is or at least it's Illustrated like you're not supposed to know what it is you're not supposed to know she's a companion robot though the trailer showed us she's a companion robot
granted having that mysterious buildup and reveal is just more interesting regardless of the trailer just blatantly showing you and the poster ramblings aside she kills a guy in self-defense she escapes and now it's a cat and mouse game they're trying to find her she's trying to get away she needs to be crafty she needs to overcome her programming is this a film that is allegory about women dating a shitty Manchild of a human being uh yes that's in there however I really appreciate and love the fact that the movie doesn't just hang its hat on
that it's not a movie you're just not going to connect with if you haven't experienced the shitty stories of the female dating experience though it's there this film does deal with the broader concept of programming I've always enjoyed the conversation well in sci-fi for now where it's you're AI you're a robot you don't actually have emotions you have programming the argument being well what do we have is it not programming that's a fun interesting concept to toy around with also broadly speaking really relatable that feeling of I know this person is bad for me if
I cut them out my life would be better but I do love them I really wish my logic brain and my emotional brain would see eye to eye on this programming if you've partaken in The Human Experience at all you'll connect with that on some level but all that aside if you want to put a pin in that and just enjoy a thriller for Thriller sake this was solid suspense mystery Intrigue solid cat and mouse game I thought it was going to overdo it with the I guess we'll say sassy humor saw some of it
in the trailer and it is in the movie in the sense that it's not just a thriller it's also a dark com at times which I feel like that's just kind of Hollywood at this point and I've either been conditioned to accept that as reality or this movie actually did a good job at blending it better than most cuz humor can really break the tension in a film like this I don't feel they overused it it didn't get overused or intrude on scenes that just needed to be more tense Sophie thater is great might have
seen her in yellow jacket she was in last year's heretic she was the Jack Mormon sister missionary I don't mind saying she carried this movie she has this amazing ability to communicate with just her expression on her face and some of you may be saying yeah that's just called acting perhaps that's not always what being a movie star is she's definitely become one of the actors I look forward to seeing her in a movie she does so much in here like in the end I really enjoyed companion it's an interesting Tech Thriller that's also fun
it has allegory on dating as well as allegory on The Human Experience in general it's one of those movies where when it started to feel routine almost like the movie was on cruise control you know it's like I get it now it's kind of hit its stride we're just going to the end something else happens it just shakes it up a bit it kept me on my toes I think this one's worth watching and worth buying on Blu-ray while you can feel like every time I give that rating my next order of business is to
about how it's becoming more and more rare that said hard copies for life my friends for life all right so companion have you seen it what did you think about it or what's your favorite AI or Tech Thriller whatever it is whatever you think comment below let me know and as always if you like what you've seen here and you want to see more click right here to see more [Music]
