hey what's up everybody nolade here i'm coming to you from new orleans more specifically lincoln beach out here in new orleans east we've come out here to see how this place looks now even though it's been abandoned since 1964 i believe we're gonna see how it looks now because it's been cleaned up by volunteers somewhat they're working in hopes to maybe bring it back one day so let's go in and check it out in 1928 pontchartrain beach opened and would be the place for the new orleans area to go have fun ride rides hit the
beach and eat some food unfortunately pontchartrain beach was only for white people this was during the time of segregation and the popular amusement park would not allow people of color into the park in 1954 the city opened lincoln beach amusement park in another area of new orleans on the lake called littlewoods in new orleans east lincoln beach was smaller further out from the city and was considered inferior to pontchartrain beach but this park was for people of color there were amusement rides big swimming pools a few places to eat and other fun things to do
in 1964 the civil rights bill arrived and ended segregation pontchartrain beach would now open to everyone and because it was a bigger place with more rides and fun things to do lincoln beach was left in the dust closing only a year later in 1965. over the years lincoln beach sat abandoned wasting away and slowly giving way to nature and becoming a place for wildlife and the homeless to live there isn't much left just a few crumbling structures of the old site but it's enough to see what this place used to be and people still come
out here and swim in the lake they have picnics on what little is left of the actual beach area and most recently there have been volunteers coming out here to clean the area up in hopes to one day reopen it to the public lincoln beach is located in the little woods area of new orleans east just off of hayne boulevard and this is where the parking lot was located in fact the old sign for the parking lot still exists even though the parking lot is mostly grown over now and if you look closely at this
old picture you can see the lincoln beach entrance sign but off in the distance you see the old parking lot sign and so after you parked you would cross the street go through a tunnel and you'd be at lincoln beach so this was the old entrance the road is just on the other side there this was open and you'd walk through and you'd come down this is obviously was not flooded you come down through the little tunnel here out the other end and take either a path and whichever direction you took would take you to
stuff like roller coasters a ferris wheel and other things to ride and see and do places to eat lots of fun stuff even a huge pool and then of course the beach [Music] and here it is the other side of the tunnel entrance not much is left but you can see where the railings were at at one point they're not here anymore and you would walk down this pathway to the rides and stuff oh wow this is new right here oh this is pretty cool it's a nice setup freshly cut firewood this is new this
was not here last time when i was all right we should go it's definitely somebody's camp yep oh there's something some kind of old metal structure right there i don't know what that was oh i see it's like a water might have been where a water pump was let's walk yeah you can definitely see where maybe this section here was some old bathrooms or changing rooms or something but that's weird look at this with the bloody looking hand prints and footprints the beach is just through those trees there huge pile of garbage bags full of
garbage and it smells pretty bad right here but this is stuff the volunteers have cleaned up all of this was once like arcade [Music] it's kind of cool that you can see the old tile floor that's what makes me really think this was a bathroom or showers or something even some old drains down there it looked pretty small too i don't know here's some kind of old roundabout with a palm tree in the middle i wonder if this palm tree is new or what it looks like it's intentionally planted in the middle of that thing
a lot of dragonflies oh i missed staffy duck last time some of this stuff i don't know look how [Music] like the foundation of the property yeah because look that thai one they have them so often that was probably part of the fountain has to be yeah i don't know what any of this actually was but i know the roller coaster and the ferris wheel were out here close to the water and the water was not up this far back then that's a long ride [Applause] i just want to slip it's slippery [Applause] yeah so
the beach was actually even further out than this the the water has eroded most of the beach unfortunately but this was the beach this was lincoln beach where all the people would come out and hang out on the beach swim in the lake the water has really just eroded all of the beach that's got to be fun [Applause] well unfortunately i wasn't filming but right there on that piece of concrete i slipped down and fell right on my shoulder so another homeless camp this one's pretty elaborate they've built quite a few things out here this
looks like it could have been some sort of wooden structure from the original park so we're going to make our way to the other side of the beach we're going to be crossing where the pool was and it's kind of hard to see from this but directly below is where the large community pool was huh pick my camera come on come on and this is what we'll be traversing across this is where the old pool was and you can see it better there that was where it was now it's just an overgrown swamp basically you
can see my pants are still wet from when i fell earlier [Music] see the piping yeah that's the water we try to put together what [Music] are y'all having fun yeah it is i'm sure you're having a lot more [Music] fun i don't can y'all go down there no where is it oh cement down there yeah it's it's shaped like look how far down and then look that way that's the whole pool [Music] yeah that's where the four foot marker is [Music] just we [Music] everybody has an internet look and you can just hey hey
you like the ladder oh it's a beautiful ladder it has no steps hey walk this way no like just jump down hold on we're not ain't no ain't no jumping huh i said there ain't no jumping amen high five ain't no jumping yes take this [Music] hey go in where you are right now [Music] so the structure we're at now is what you're seeing in this picture we think it was an old concession stand there was a shower that led right up to the steps that brought you to the pool so you would come back
up here from the beach you would walk through this section here this was a shower you can see one of the drains there and you would walk through this shower to get all the sand off it would go down one of these drains there's another one and you would walk through walk up those steps and hop in the pool sand free so you don't get sand all up in the pool [Music] drag it [Music] [Applause] yeah so here's the question what did that used to be i don't know it was part of did it fall
off this was way out there all of this was like a roller coaster i think that's awesome i think the roller coaster was actually over there [Music] there's three of them there's three one of them is eating another one [Music] are you videoing it yeah so this one he's got a leg of the one and this one's eating the whole rest of it [Music] [Music] oh we're going to hit this other building on our way back to the front this was also concessions and bathrooms and whatever else yeah this was the pool so this is
what i wanted i wanted to see on this side to see if we could see any of the old wall left over on this side literally it goes from cement to grass and trees and swamps that stinks too [Applause] yeah this this was probably maybe the steps that went down into it i don't know well it's all filled in but it looks like it could have been steps that would have led into the pool yeah this was the pool at some point the other side of it what about the side concrete this guy right shot
i'm sorry no i was filming you too okay okay this was a that wasn't mr balloon hands it was for so much paint and this one wasn't mr balloon hands i wanted to spray paint i really think that pole down there was part of that wooden gazebo that i saw in the picture it had to have been [Music] all right well that's going to do it for me from out here at lincoln beach this place was incredible i've been wanting to come out here for a long long time i'm glad i finally did a lot
