We just got stopped by the police and they were talking about confiscating my vehicle and we drove off. Yeah, there there's only one way for that to happen. I may or may not have been forced to pay a bribe.
For my safety, I cannot outright say what exactly happened, nor can I show the extortion on camera. The officer's faces will remain blurred as I do not want any further issues whilst I'm still in the country. Many locals have said that a Bribe will be an inevitable occurrence for foreigners traveling Peru in their own vehicle.
But never did I think a forced donation to the Peruvian Police Force would happen like this. What a beautiful day, man. Big vibes for my sister and I jamming to music and getting to know the beautiful back streets of Peru.
We were driving almost parallel to the main highway on our way to Sayan in order to steer clear from the truck filled traffic we drove in the last episode. But before long, corruption found us. I was a ball of stress and anxiety fueled by the situation of almost daylight robbery committed by the officers alleged to keep us safe.
My sister and I were escorted by the police for 20 minutes stating they would lead us out of the town to avoid having any more issues. I assume this meant issues with another corrupt police patrol. They left us on the highway and we drove another half an hour without filming, more so to piece my thoughts together.
Right. Anyway, we've just pulled off and I said to Ashley, I need a hug from her and I need a pat from Miss Patti cuz it's just hectic right now. My head's kind of cooking.
Patti, relax. Relax. Oh, there we go.
I'm feeling better already. Cut me out. Golly goodness.
Holy moly. You okay? Yeah.
I didn't I just sat in the back of Patti. I didn't have to deal with anything. But got got a little bit nervous, of course.
Got a bit sad. It's over before it even started. Yeah, we just want 5 days of of problem free travel that that Ashleigh's got while we're here in Peru.
And the police were talking about confiscating my vehicle. Oh my gosh. Ashleigh's going to take care of the tuk tuk behind me.
Trying to get away from the highway noise and just walk off this stress that I'm feeling. Right. I don't know how to word it.
Um, I don't want to say anything to incriminate me, especially while I'm in the country of Peru. Um, and I don't want any more problems with police force in future countries either with my videos. It's like it's all public information anyway.
We'll cut to the chase, but I've never really ever been pulled over. So, to hear the lights, it was it was quite scary, especially as so many tuk tuks around us. So, they come up to the door.
My sister's lowkey filming in the back. He just asked my my passport and and license. No problem.
That's how it goes. Usually they just ask us a couple questions at that point. Then they're they've looked on my number plate.
They can't find on the system obviously for third party insurance which is required to um drive on on any roads in Peru. And when I started the the the video series in Peru, they um told me that foreign vehicles can't receive SOAT. They told me I got one too many digits on my number plate to even be able to buy a third party insurance.
It's called SOAT. So, I don't have that. I already knew that.
So, I've driven halfway across this country without the SOAT and also without insurance. I don't know whether that's mandatory, but then they ask for my insurance papers. They then start Aman and they're not saying too much.
They're just constantly talking about all my issues and they're then saying, um, you're you're going to have to have your vehicle confiscated. You can't drive like this on Peruvian roads. Usually in those situations, it's a lot, um, cheaper to sort it out on the spot than to just go through all the process legally, right?
They don't want to do the paperwork. Either do I may or may not have been asked for a certain amount of money and I negotiated the certain amount of money potentially and from there they said all right yeah it was expensive potentially. So anyway, that's that's not the first time I'm going to encounter one of these situations and it's not going to be the last, unfortunately.
Hear a police officer um say next time, buddy. Just have the money already ready to go in your license when you pull it out. I'm like, that's just insane to say and and to hear.
Police officers can definitely make or break a traveler's experience through a country, but now I need to put that behind me. Get back to my sister now and get back to Patti. Um, and we'll continue down the road all all smiling and waving, right?
That's that's what we're going to do. Yeah. Hey, hey.

Yeah. Just don't have another thing with the police. Oh my goodness.
When he stopped us, I thought we were going to have more problems cuz we got told by that police stop that we could drive on this highway and I thought he was going to tell us we couldn't. So, that was just the toll point. And this is the route the motorcycles have to take cuz they go by for free.
I guess they don't want them traveling through the boom gate. I'm just a big ball of stress right now. It's so fresh.
All right, back on the road. I don't know where you can see it, but there's an entire city up my left side shoulder there. The policeman was right.
As we climbed higher into the mountains, the fog thickened, and right about now would be the perfect time to use the newly installed bar light, which even has a fog mode. What although wasn't modified while in Lima was a bigger battery, which I believe gets shortcircuited every time we use the bar light. The mods are all clearly a work in progress, although will be making a huge difference to our Argentina to Alaska trip on three wheels once completed.
Right, that's a sellout place where you can buy third party insurance. I'm going to have another crack cuz I I honestly never like to deal with the police in that circumstance like we did. Just got the tuk tuk parked off.
We went to get fuel as well, so we're all good. same story. It's like you go to you go to all these official agents of SOAT and you just don't have much luck.
That was a snake dead. I think you know what's about to happen, Miss Pat's. Hey, got Ashley.

And Patti's about to drive with us. Run alongside. We got the highway just there.
We've turned off. We got about 4 km to this mountain range where it's a bit of a national park. There's apparently going to be some hikes.
So, we're going hiking. [Music] All right. So, as Patti is showing, they don't allow dogs.
So, at least we didn't drive too far up this road, but yeah, that's a bit of a shame. So, we wanted to do a hike. Also, on this sign over here at the saying that foreigners are unfortunately are about $10 a piece.
So, we're just driving down the road now. We got about an hour and a half to Sai where there's apparently natural thermal pools and a lot more greenery and nature that we'll go to check out there. It'll be just as good [Music] to somebody.
But I do remember they had like this cool thing and we're apparently illegal. Like come on. We made it to Sayan.
Got the tuk tuk. And there's like a a police stop in front. So hopefully we avoid it.
Easy does it. Wow. So cute.
So, finally after a very eventful day of driving, probably 4 hours, we've made it to Sai. Plenty of these cheaper style of tuk tuks and a couple of my own as well. We've got nothing booked for tonight.
There's no Airbnbs that exist in this town. It's more of a of a chiller style of town. Not not too touristic, but the mechanics recommended it and the photos of the place look gorgeous.
So, I'm keen to kind of relax tonight and then for my sister and I to get to know the the spot tomorrow. That's a hotel there. Three star.
That'll be good enough for Ashley and and myself. It's been a a wild couple of days traveling, so treating ourselves going to be kind of nice. So, I hope they accept Patti.
She sent me off to check out this room. It's about $40. My sister, myself, it took it.
This was my first time. Much bigger than I thought. So, this is great.

We're going wet water rafting tomorrow. Is it really? Yeah.
Tomorrow. That's the beautiful mechanic that also doubles as the car park. This is where we left Tori the tuk tuk last night.
I'm getting sunscreen and we're going white water rafting right now. So, parking the car up here last night is where we found the tour guide. He owns the garage as well and he just said, "Mate, I can take you and your sister out for for $35 total on the white water raft.
" And I said, "Yes, please. " Okay. Um, this was fantastic.
So, we are four people. Now, we're going to the office. I made you this speech about rafting and then we pick up the other people.

What a legend. Just literally saying it's our first time, right? Yeah.
We've never done white water rafting, so pretty excited. And this is a class three, so it goes from 1 to five. So, it's just in the middle.
Okay. Great. A nice little intermediate white water rafting to start.
as we leave. It's been a really nice little town. Later on, I'll take you to the market.
It's where we bought breakfast and it's just such a good vibe. Wow. Forward.

You have the pillow here. So when I pull you, the pillow is coming out. Ah, you keep your foot in here.
I'm learning. That's a pretty damn fast flowing river. That's a crazy three intermediate river in my eyes.

[Music] [Music] Right. So, we're leaving the hotel right now. And right in front of us there is the market.
So, in the morning, they had all of these markets open. This is a barber shop. Um, there a lot of vegetable stores, a lot more people selling just little knickknacks as well inside.
So, we're going to go check out, see if we can find a bit of a mango. Then we're going on an ice cream raid for Miss Ashleigh. They reckon mango's are this way.
So here you can get some more pharmaceutical supplies and even just soaps. These are all different brands of soaps. Toothpaste Oh, these are the ones from this morning.
Wow. Nice. Nice.

What do you think about that? We just got two for $1. 50 Australian, which is so much better than like the $4, $3 $4 that it sometimes is for one.
So, it's a little humble spot and the kitchen's really nice and small and cute and um it's going to be great to show my sister a like a typical Peruvian lunch spot in the middle of nowhere. Say, it's little little town. So, it's very different from the restaurants that we've been having in Middle.
This is a spicy sauce. It's a house soup. So, we didn't even ask for it, but usually that's how it's a set meal.
Delicious. So, I don't know what drink this is. I'm about to find out.
So, I got home freshlymade lemonade. My sister got the noodle stir fry. I got what is called a tortilla, a vegetable tortilla, but it's more like an egg omelette with rice.
Incredible. M. Hey, that's one of the best omelets of my life.
Why did I have to come to a rural town in Brutus here? A little humble restaurant. It cost 20 soles for two drinks, two soups, and two meals.
Yeah, it was crazy. Crazy. So, that's that's the value when you're in the in the deep deep rural Peru.
It's It's cheap, but it was cheaper in Bolivia, believe it or not. So, ice cream time, Miss Pat's. Ice cream time.
Ice cream. No, you know where the house is, don't you? You're too smart.
Good girl. What is going on in here? I've never once seen a scooter with training wheels, but there's a first for everything in this world.
As we head up probably this mountain here with Miss Pat's and Ashley. You couldn't wait for the mountain, Miss Pat's. You're okay.
Sorry about that. I respect your privacy. So, the plaza's got a museum.
There's even the little sign of cyan. We'll go see. I think it's even got a little humble cathedral at the end of this plaza as well.

It's a It's a little puppy. It's very young. Look, he's a bit He's a bit nervous.
We're deep in the suburbs now with the little tuk tuks. And we're not even on a legitimate street. We're just walking through the little back alleyways trying to find the base of this mountain.
And then we can let Miss Pat's off leash. This is actually the cemetery of the town. And what's intriguing is they've got what seems like some merenge or no which seems like mariachi or salsa is what I'm trying to say.
Well, [Music] wow. I've actually like got goosebumps. Just so much culture around here that like in this part of the world that I I personally don't believe to be honest too much exists in Australia for real.
That's why I love Latin America. Hey. Wow.

So, we're at this little store. We're getting all these little Peruvian snacks, donuts, and we're buying this lady's hamburger buns as well. Good girl.
Good waiting. We've got so many Peruvian snacks for us to try. Do a little hole.
So, last night here they were playing volleyball. Tonight they've got a bit of women's soccer. We're going to sit down with our picnic dinner and and have a watch.
Literally the whole town, the whole other side's filled as well. Okay, this is really cool. [Applause] Patti, relax.

The dogs on the field. Yeah. We got We got takeaway dinner now, the main meal, and then the the males are planned.
